Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images/File Photo REUTERS Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ventured beyond her usual 400 metres event, clocking an impressive 11.21 seconds to take second place in her first professional 100 metres flat race at the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia on Sunday. The American four-time Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400 metres hurdles, accustomed to dominating the one-lap event, found herself beaten by Jamaica's Ackera Nugent, who won in 11.11 seconds. Nugent's victory completed a weekend double, securing the women's short hurdles group with a perfect 24 points following her success in Saturday's 100 metres hurdles. American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden scorched the track with a blistering time of 10.73 seconds in the 100 metres, cementing her victory in the short sprints group with 24 points after her 200 metres triumph on Saturday. Meanwhile, Dominican Republic's Marileidy Paulino dominated the women's long sprints group with 24 points, having won the 200 metres in 22.46 seconds. Britain's Lina Nielsen also shone, capturing the 400 metres hurdles in 52.60 seconds, while Etiopia Diribe Welteji secured victory in the 800 metres in 1:58.94. In the men's events, American Kenny Bednarek shaved one-hundredth of a second off his personal best in the 100 metres, finishing in 9.86 seconds and took the short sprints group getting 24 points. Meanwhile, Olympic silver medallist Josh Kerr from Britain beat gold medallist Cole Hocker by just seven-hundredths of a second in a thrilling 1500 metres race, finishing in 3:34.44. American Trevor Bassitt provided late drama in the 400 metres hurdles, outduelling Alison dos Santos and Chris Robinson to win in 45.47 seconds. He also won the men's long hurdles group with 20 points. There were also wins for Americans Trey Cunningham in the short hurdles group 100 metres with a time of 10.36 seconds and Nico Young in the men's 3000 metres in his first Grand Slam Track appearance, while Dominican Alexander Ogando took the men's 200 metres with a time of 20.13 seconds. The Grand Slam Track season will conclude with its fourth meeting in Los Angeles on June 27-29. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Minnesota Vikings Expected to Play Multiple Games Overseas in 2025
Unless you're the Jacksonville Jaguars, it's rare that NFL teams are asked to go overseas two seasons in a row. That's why it caught many Minnesota Vikings fans by surprise when rumors started circling that — just one season after playing in a host game in London — international American football may be one the Vikings' 2025 slate too. Then, as soon as those Irish Vikings vs Pittsburgh Steelers rumors turned into credible reports, an even harder-to-believe scenario bubbled to the surface. Not only were the Minnesota Vikings expected to play week four in Dublin, but there were whispers behind the scenes that they could play two games overseas in the same season. How could something like this even cross the league's mind? Well, because two of Minnesota's scheduled AFC North road opponents in 2025 — the Steelers and the Cleveland Browns — both have international home games on their schedule, in close proximity to one another. Minnesota Vikings 2025 European Double-Header Locked In… So, when the NFL decided that the Vikings were the best overseas option on the Steelers' schedule, for their game in Dublin, Ireland… they thought, why not have them hop over the Irish Sea, for another game just 583 KILOMETERS east — one hour plane ride that costs as little as $38 — for another game against the Browns back at Tottenham Hotspur, in London? Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images As of Friday afternoon, it appears that's exactly what the NFL has decided to do. Over the last 12-24 hours, the MN Vikings' 2025 international double-header has become one of the NFL's worst-kept secrets. Advertisement Late Thursday afternoon, Arif Hassan ( tweeted it out as being all but official. On Friday morning, the Star Tribune's Ben Goessling tweeted the same thing. Both matchups will be road games, and thus not affect Minnesota's home schedule in 2025, unlike their british cameo last season. In its 65 year history, the Minnesota Vikings football team has never lost a game on international soil — a perfect 8-0, (4-0 in the regular season). Now, they'll get a chance to defend that perfect overseas W/L record, first in Ireland, then back to the UK for their second game at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur stadium, in just as many seasons. That game, as we all know, finished in a 23-17 week five Vikings victory.

Top 2025 NFL Rookie of the Year candidates: Ashton Jeanty and Abdul Carter start as ROTY favorites
Last season, Jayden Daniels emerged as the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Jared Verse won Defensive Rookie of the Year. Two players, both quarterbacks, were drafted ahead of when the Washington Commanders selected Daniels third. As for Verse, there were three defenders selected ahead of him, but the Los Angeles Rams found great value at No. 19. Who will emerge as the 2025 NFL Rookie of the Year winners? Let's take a look at the early candidates to win. Advertisement Related: 2025 NFL MVP odds 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year candidates (offense) 1. Ashton Jeanty, RB, Las Vegas Raiders Credit: Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images As the projected starting running back in a Pete Carroll offense, Ashton Jeanty could put up big numbers in the NFL, just as he did at Boise State. Plus, as a rusher who can produce as a pass-catcher, the sky is the limit for a player who could flirt with 1,500 yards from scrimmage plus score double-digit touchdowns. 2. Cam Ward, QB, Tennessee Titans Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Cam Ward is the biggest boom or bust prospect of the rookie class. Like we saw from Jayden Daniels last year, Ward has the potential to be a star thanks to his natural ability to make plays with his arm or his feet. But do the Titans have enough weapons to help him thrive? Advertisement Related: 2025 dynasty rookie rankings: Top 20 fantasy rookie rankings 3. Travis Hunter, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images How much will he play on offense? He won't get more targets than Brian Thomas in Jacksonville. Or will Travis Hunter be a better candidate to win Defensive Rookie of the Year? For now, he's in play for both awards. Related: Ranking all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks 4. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers Credit: Tork Mason / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images How many targets can Tetairoa McMillan steal as Bryce Young's newest weapon? That's the question for the eighth overall pick, who will be competing with Xavier Legette and Adam Thielen. Yet, being that he was selected so high, McMillan could be a big factor as a rookie. Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images While he'll be competing with Najee Harris for touches in the backfield, he'll still be a featured back in Jim Harbaugh's offense. Plus, Harris was only signed to a one-year deal, whereas Hampton is the future at the position so he's likely to get as many opportunities as he can handle. Abdul Carter, EDGE/LB, New York Giants Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images While it's still not known what type of role Abdul Carter will have as a rookie, we expect the Giants to put him on the field as often as possible. It may be off the edge, it may be at linebacker, but Carter will have a chance to record double-digit sacks. Advertisement Related: NFL defense rankings 2025 2. Travis Hunter, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars Credit: Travis Register-Imagn Images Travis Hunter could be deployed more on defense than he is on offense for a team that has a great need for a CB1. If Hunter can get his hands on a few footballs, he could very well emerge as a leading contender to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, he might even win the award on offense too. Related: Updated NFL power rankings 3. Jalon Walker, EDGE, Atlanta Falcons Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The thing about Jalon Walker is that we know he'll be a starter for an Atlanta Falcons defense that desperately needs some pass-rush juice. Plus, he was viewed as a top-five defensive prospect heading into the draft process after an excellent career at Georgia, which has developed a knack for sending top-tier talent to the NFL. Mykel Williams, DL, San Francisco 49ers Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images After losing multiple defensive linemen in free agency, the San Francisco 49ers have some snaps to fill. Mykel Williams will gobble them up and likely be an above-average run stuffer who can make plays behind the line of scrimmage. If he can generate sacks too, he could be in play to win this award. Mason Graham, DL, Cleveland Browns Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images After making Mason Graham their top selection, the Cleveland Browns' defensive line has a chance to be elite in 2025. We know Myles Garrett will soak up double teams, which could leave Graham with a few open rushing lanes. If he can capitalize, Graham should be viewed as a top contender to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Bucs NFL draft picks 2025: Live round-by-round selections
The 2025 NFL Draft is upon us, and we will soon know who the rookie class of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will include for the upcoming season and beyond. The team fought back at the end of the year to win the NFC South for the fourth straight season. Despite that momentum, they lost in the first round for the third time out of those four years. They return all of their high-powered offense, but now their defense needs some attention. That is where Jason Licht hopes to carry over the momentum from a strong 2024 draft class to 2025, getting this team to the promised land for the second time in his tenure. Texans, Browns swap picks in first NFL Draft day trade
The draft day trades have started early. The Texans and Browns swapped a handful of draft picks in the later rounds of this year's draft, taking place over the next few days in Green Bay. The Texans acquired the 179th overall pick, the 216th overall pick – both sixth-rounders – and the 255th overall pick (seventh round) in this year's draft from the Browns in exchange for the 166th overall pick (fifth round) in this year's draft and a fifth-round pick in 2027. 3 Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio speaks during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine at the Indiana Convention Center. Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The maneuvers could be the opening salvo for a Texans team reportedly aggressively working to grab one of the top offensive linemen in the draft. The Ringer's Todd McShay had reported that he heard Houston had been attempting to move up in the first round, specifically naming Texas' Kelvin Banks Jr. and North Dakota State's Grey Zabel as two possible targets. 3 Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry speaks during the NFL Scouting Combine at the Indiana Convention Center. Getty Images The idea would be to help give Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud better protection for the 2025 season after being sacked the second most in the NFL last year. The Browns will have plenty of eyes on them picking at No. 2 overall this year with Cleveland potentially picking Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter with the selection.
