Man, 22, killed in Alberta highway crash
A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in eastern Alberta on Thursday. A semi-truck and a sedan crashed at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 897 near Kitscoty, Alta., at around 8:15 a.m., RCMP said. The driver of the sedan, a 22-year-old man from Islay, Alta., died on scene. The road was closed until 1:30 p.m. while police investigated the crash.

Vandalism spree causes $1M in damage to Vermilion provincial building
A man was arrested Sunday after a string of vandalism amounting to over $1 million. Vermillion RCMP say they received a report from two youths about damage done to the Provincial Building and six sheriff cruisers that were parked on site. With the help of Kitscoty RCMP and police dogs, the 23-year-old man was identified, located and arrested. (Supplied) The man is also accused of causing damage to the town's McDonald's amounting to around $50,000, said a statement issued by police Tuesday. (Supplied) The initial estimate of the damages done to the Provincial Building is upwards of $1 million. The Vermillion resident was charged with six counts of mischief to a vehicle over $5,000, two counts of mischief over $5,000, and break and enter to commit mischief over $5,000. He was remanded into custody and is to appear in court Tuesday.

Mechanic arrested for chop shop, vehicle theft near Lloydminster: RCMP
Police say they have made an arrest in relation to a chop shop in Kitscoty, Alta., about 20 kilometres west of Lloydminster. Kitscoty Mounties received a report on May 27 of stolen truck parts being sold on Facebook Marketplace. With assistance from the Lloydminster investigation unit, and Alberta RCMP's eastern crime reduction unit, officers conducted an investigation resulting in the search of a local mechanic shop in the Kitscoty area. RCMP say the suspect was stealing vehicles, cutting them up at the shop and selling the parts. Four vehicles were found to be stolen out of Lloydminster, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and Maidstone, Sask. A 29-year-old Lloydminster resident was arrested and has since been released. Pending charges include four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking stolen property under $5,000. The individual is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on Aug. 12.
