Unlikely $16 Kmart item praised for small storage solution: 'So handy'
Whether it's a bath mat used as a drying rack in the kitchen, or a paper towel holder installed in the bedroom to store accessories, Kmart shoppers love to think outside of the box. While an item may be advertised as having a sole purpose in store or online, some simple creativity can prove otherwise. Interior designer and lifestyle creator Dina Santos has gone viral on social media this week after sharing a video featuring Kmart's new 8L Push Top Bin. The $16 item is designed to be a 'hygienic and user-friendly solution for everyday waste disposal'; however, Dina has used it to store toilet paper rolls. 'I wanted something to store the toilet paper but wanted something slim and covered,' she shares. 'Seriously I can't find anything wrong with it at all. It's simple, straightforward, well-made, and works great.' The popular content creator, who boasts over 200,000 followers on social media, also recommends using it as a waste bin or to store laundry detergent. Shoppers praise 'genius' idea Dina's video has received over 860,000 views and hundreds of comments on TikTok and Instagram, with shoppers describing it as 'genius', 'super cute' and 'so handy'. 'Great idea! I'm so glad people have gotten over 'displaying' toilet paper in toilets. This is a much better idea!' one person wrote, while another added, 'Yes I hate open toilet rolls. Bugs and wee sprinkles. But this is clean'. 'Ok this is clever. I love that it has a lid,' a third replied, followed by someone else who said, 'Wait this is so smart. I'm gonna go out and buy two for my toilets today!'. 'Love that! Would be handy for sanitary items too!' a different user shared, with another commenting, 'That's the perfect toilet accessory!'. Potential issue with popular item Others pointed out that the product, which comes in both white and sage green, might be mistaken as a bin in their household. 'It's all good fun until a guest throws their wrapped-up old pad into the bin without realising,' one shopper remarked, while someone else agreed, 'I thought the same thing TBH'. 'The only time the kids would use the bin as a bin is if I didn't use it as a bin,' a different user joked. Kmart shoppers go wild over $79 'perfect' winter must-have item: 'Best purchase ever'
As parts of Australia freeze their way through a chilly winter, a new cosy heating device has caught the attention of shoppers. The Kmart Flame Effect Fireplace Heater, $79, is currently being snapped up because it not only provides lovely spatial warmth, but also has a stylish vintage aesthetic. The heating unit looks like a classic miniature fireplace, and even features a realistic LED log flame inside it that mimics a roaring flame. These design elements are in stark to most freestanding plug-in heaters, which tend to be unsightly, boxy and rudimentary in appearance. Unsurprisingly, the imitation fireplace heater is currently sold out online. Many Kmart stores also list that they have low or no stock of the popular item. The delightfully designed heater is already a winner with Kmart shoppers, and has earnt a 4.6 stars rating on the mass retailer's website. 'Perfect for creating the cutest atmosphere for chilly evenings,' read one review. 'Warms the room quickly and looks good,' confirmed another. The log flame effect, which is adjustable in brightness via a dial control, was also highlighted in many of the reviews. Happy customers were particularly taken with the way the fire effect could be used 'without the heater' to create a softly lit atmosphere. 'Fantastic warm flame effect makes the room cosy,' said one reviewer. The freestanding heater has two power heat settings: 900W or 1800W, as well as a thermostat control for each mode. The electrical item also has a number of safety features including overheat protection, a tip over switch and a safety thermal cut-off device. A recent video showing a Brisbane woman installing the Kmart fireplace heater in her cabin has been viewed over 134,000 times. Artist Phoebe Hofsteede recently demonstrated how the 'faux fire place heater' added 'such cute ambiance' to her artist cabin retreat. In the video, the photographer unboxed and assembled the Kmart buy before setting it up in the corner of a room. The 33-second video, which has received thousands of likes, showcased how effortlessly the heating unit fit into her eclectic space. Among the thousands of comments were messages taking delight with how the heater looked inside Phoebe's cabin. 'What a cozycore vibe,' read one reply. 'Aesthetically pleasing,' added another. 'I love the burning flame, just looks like it's a fire place,' wrote a third. Several commenters also chimed in that they had the same one, praising it as 'such a good little heater'. 'This is the best purchase ever and I love her in my little villa,' read one reply. But amid a cost of living crisis, many commenters expressed concern about the heating device chewing through power and hiking up electricity bills. 'We used to have this and I loved it, my husband got rid of it, apparently our electric bill went up.' 'I want one so bad but I'm worried about the electricity bill,' added another. Heaters aren't the only Kmart device shoppers are investing in to stay warm this winter. The recently launched Kmart Heated Foot Warmer, $27 has also won over shoppers. The unusual buy has been dubbed an 'instant win' on chilly mornings and as a sneaky addition under office desks. Sold in a sleek grey, the cosy slip-on device find has adjustable heat settings (three) and gently warms the feet, aiding with both relaxation and circulation. It also has a long USB cord for ease of use, overheat protection and is USB powered so it can be used almost anywhere.

I tested Kmart's $59 gadget against Dyson's $850 Airwrap - and I couldn't believe the results
Savvy Aussie shoppers on the hunt for an affordable hair tool have discovered a $59 item from Kmart that works just as well - if not 'better' - than a Dyson Airwrap. Lisa Davenport has put the budget-friendly Air Styler to the test to see how it compares to the hugely popular, high-end brand priced between $599 to $849. The lifestyle and beauty content creator, also known as the Hampton Housewife on social media, filmed herself curling one side of her hair with the Kmart model and the other with the Dyson. Much to her surprise, the bouncy curls from the Kmart styler appeared to hold up better than those from its pricier rival. 'I did a side-by-side comparison… and I'm shocked at the result,' the Aussie mum said in her Instagram Reels. 'One side styled with my Dyson the other with the Kmart dupe with results I didn't expect.' Lisa said the Kmart tool was a perfect, affordable alternative - especially for shoppers who can't afford to fork out hundreds of dollars on big name brands. 'I love that there's an affordable option for this sort of style and it's good,' she said. 'I couldn't believe how good it was.' Her video has been viewed more than 310,000 times - with many Kmart shoppers confirming it's the 'best' hair styling tool. 'I have the Kmart one and it is fabulous. Now everyday is a good hair day... I can do it in 10-15 minutes... go to work and it's still fab when I get home,' one raved. 'It is an absolutely amazing product - I love it,' another revealed. Many said they couldn't wait to give the tool a go after seeing Lisa's glowing review - while others revealed they have been struggling to find it in stock. 'Everyone is running to Kmart there will be none left,' one said, laughing. Many agreed the cheaper version was 'better'. 'Wow! I actually like the Kmart one better, it gives more bounce,' one said. 'Kmart wins,' another shared. 'Wow - great comparison,' one suggested. 'Wow that's crazy - go Kmart,' another added. She filmed herself curling one side of hair with the Kmart model and the other with the Dyson The sell-out Air Styler from Kmart has been flying off the shelves, with some fans claiming it's 'giving Dyson a run for its money' after achieving bouncy, wavy curls for a fraction of the price. The hair tool comes with four attachments: left side curler, right side curler, 32mm brush and hair dryer nozzle. It features three speed and heat settings, a self-clean function, and a three gear temperature display lights. With a near perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, it's safe to say customers are obsessed with the Kmart product. 'I was super surprised! I was very skeptical... (but) I love it. It's amazing and easy to use,' one said. 'Great Air Styler and gives my daughter's Dyson a run for it's money, brush is wider but shorter... There's a nozzle and two curling attachments, three temperatures although the hottest is too hot. Works well and great price. Brilliant,' another shared. 'The Kmart Air Styler is amazing. As good if not better than the Dyson. If you can find one buy it,' one revealed. 'I was looking for a styler that automatically sucked the hair around as I am useless with trying to curl with a straighter. After 10 minutes of trial and error, I mastered this one. It works well on my thin, medium-length hair, takes less than 10 minutes to do and lasts all day. I have bleached hair and have not noticed any damage or dryness from using this, although I do protect my hair well and only use it maybe once a week,' another added.
