Rockets have ‘no interest' in letting Ime Udoka go to Knicks

Ime Udoka can likely be scratched off the shortlist of Knicks coaching candidates. The head coach of the Rockets is under contract until 2027, meaning Houston would have to grant permission just for the Knicks to interview him. And the Knicks would then have to negotiate compensation to the Rockets to pry their coach away from them. The Rockets have 'no interest in entertaining that,' according to The Athletic. The Knicks fired coach Tom Thibodeau after they were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals in six games by the Pacers. Thibodeau had been in charge for five years, leading the Knicks to the postseason in four of those seasons. 3 Getty Images 'Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans,' Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. 'This pursuit has led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move in another direction. We can't thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also tremendous success on the court with four playoff berths and four playoff series victories. 'Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward. Tom will always be part of our Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future.' Udoka, despite off-court controversies, is considered one of the best coaches in the NBA. 3 The Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau after five seasons with the team. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post He led the Celtics to an NBA Finals appearance in his first season in Boston before losing to the Warriors in six games. But his Celtics tenure lasted just one year, as he was suspended and subsequently fired for an alleged improper relationship with a female staffer. He has served as the Rockets' head coach for the past two seasons, leading a stunning turnaround for the franchise. 3 Leon Rose looks on prior to the Knicks-Pistons playoff game on April 21, 2025. Detroit Pistons Could Land $304 Million Finals MVP in Blockbuster Mock Trade

The Detroit Pistons, it would seem, are the Eastern Conference's team of the future. They will face elimination tonight in Game 6 against the New York Knicks, but even if they lose and get bounced in the first round, they are a team on the rise. Cade Cunningham has emerged as the face of the franchise, and the Pistons are only expected to go up. As the Boston Celtics navigate a precarious salary cap situation, they might be interested in moving some of their bigger contracts in order to stave off the luxary tax and other punishments. Advertisement "The rest of the league is bracing for some level of change to come to the Celtics from their roster this offseason," revealed insider Shams Charania. "Sources have been telling me for weeks now that the Celtics will be exploring trade options in the offseason. This team, this iteration, just is not going to be sustainable for this team. And no one around the organization, from players to staffers, would be surprised if there are changes coming to this roster." If the Celtics are interested in cutting salary, the Pistons could land a superstar in the offseason, provided they are willing to move on from at least one promising young player. Full Mock Trade Details Pistons Receive: Jaylen Brown Advertisement Celtics Receive: Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart, Jaden Ivey OR Ron Holland, 2027 first-round pick A lone first-round pick might not be enough to move the needle, the package of players should be able to be enough. Stewart, at this point, is a defensive-minded veteran, and Harris has plenty of experience. Ivey or Holland are low-cost players under team control for the next several seasons, allowing Boston to stay in contention while cutting some salary. Meanwhile, the Pistons open a title window with a defensive-minded superstar. Check out the All Pistons homepage for more news, analysis, and must-read articles. NBA playoffs: Jalen Brunson jams finger in Tim Hardaway Jr.'s eye, drawing flagrant foul and wrath of Pistons fans

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson drew a flagrant foul and the wrath of Detroit Pistons fans for an eye poke Thursday night that did not resemble a basketball play. The incident took place in the first quarter of Game 3 of the first-round playoff series, which shifted to Detroit after the teams split Games 1 and 2 in New York. The Knicks went on to win the game, 118-116. With 6:20 remaining in the quarter and the Knicks holding a 20-11 lead, Tim Hardaway Jr. pulled up for a 3-pointer from the left wing. Brunson closed in on defense and fouled Hardaway during his shooting motion. Hardaway fell to the court and clutched his face in pain. Officials called a personal foul on the floor and reviewed it for a potential flagrant foul. It was ruled a flagrant foul. Brunson jammed the fingers of his right hand toward Hardaway's face and poked him in the left eye during Hardaway's shot. Flagrant Foul on Jalen Brunson. — Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) April 24, 2025 Detroit fans serenaded Brunson with a chant of "F*** you, Brunson!" as officials watched replay video at mid-court. Hardaway, meanwhile, recovered from the eye poke while sitting on the Pistons bench. Officials upgraded the foul to a flagrant 1 on Brunson for "unnecessary contact above the shoulder level to the shooter with a followthrough to the eye of the shooter." Referee Zach Zarba described Brunson's motion as "not making a natural play on the basketball." Hardaway was awarded three free throws. He hit them all, and the Pistons retained possession. Hardaway then hit a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession for a quick, personal 6-0 run to cut New York's lead to 20-17. But New York withstood the run and finished the first quarter with a 33-27 lead. The Knicks carried a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter before holding off a late Pistons run to secure the win. Brunson finished with 30 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Hardaway tallied 24 points while shooting 7 of 12 from 3-point distance. Playoff series are heating up and spilling over with bad blood across the league. Knicks-Pistons is no exception.

NBA Makes Major Celtics Announcement Before Round 2

On Tuesday night, the Boston Celtics completed their gentleman's sweep of the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the seventh time in the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown era. Currently, the Celtics don't have an opponent for the next round. Their next competitor will be the Detroit Pistons or the New York Knicks, who are still in the middle of their series. Advertisement The Pistons kept their season alive the same night the Celtics ended the Magic's, as their 106-103 win over the Knicks in New York sends the series back to Detroit with the Knicks up 3-2. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (0) and Orlando Magic guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (3)Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images However, the NBA has announced what the Celtics' schedule will be for the Eastern Conference Semifinals, no matter how the Knicks-Pistons series turns out. The Athletic's Jared Weiss revealed that the Celtics will play on May 5, May 7, May 10, and May 12. If the series goes past four games, they will also play on May 14, May 16, and May 19. This will give the Celtics six days of rest between their last game against the Magic and their first game in this upcoming series, which is big news. Now it's all a matter of who Boston will face in the next round. Advertisement The Celtics swept the Knicks in their regular season series in 2025, winning all four games. If those two match up, it will be their first playoff series playing against each other since 2013. The Celtics won their season series against the Pistons in 2025, winning three out of their four games. If those two match up, it will be their first playoff series playing against each other since 2008.
