Detroit Pistons Could Land $304 Million Finals MVP in Blockbuster Mock Trade
The Detroit Pistons, it would seem, are the Eastern Conference's team of the future. They will face elimination tonight in Game 6 against the New York Knicks, but even if they lose and get bounced in the first round, they are a team on the rise.
Cade Cunningham has emerged as the face of the franchise, and the Pistons are only expected to go up. As the Boston Celtics navigate a precarious salary cap situation, they might be interested in moving some of their bigger contracts in order to stave off the luxary tax and other punishments.

Between Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics need to move on from one of their larger salaries, especially if their new ownership group wants to drop below the second apron, which is expected.

"The rest of the league is bracing for some level of change to come to the Celtics from their roster this offseason," revealed insider Shams Charania. "Sources have been telling me for weeks now that the Celtics will be exploring trade options in the offseason. This team, this iteration, just is not going to be sustainable for this team. And no one around the organization, from players to staffers, would be surprised if there are changes coming to this roster."
If the Celtics are interested in cutting salary, the Pistons could land a superstar in the offseason, provided they are willing to move on from at least one promising young player.

Pistons Receive: Jaylen Brown

Celtics Receive: Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart, Jaden Ivey OR Ron Holland, 2027 first-round pick
A lone first-round pick might not be enough to move the needle, the package of players should be able to be enough. Stewart, at this point, is a defensive-minded veteran, and Harris has plenty of experience. Ivey or Holland are low-cost players under team control for the next several seasons, allowing Boston to stay in contention while cutting some salary.
Meanwhile, the Pistons open a title window with a defensive-minded superstar.

Charles Barkley Takes Shot At Knicks After Firing Tom Thibodeau
Charles Barkley Takes Shot At Knicks After Firing Tom Thibodeau originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After defeating the defending champion Boston Celtics in six games, Tom Thibodeau and the New York Knicks saw their season come to an end in the Eastern Conference finals, falling to the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement Thibodeau joined the Knicks in 2020 and has made it to the NBA playoffs in four of his five seasons there. However, despite the recent success, New York elected to part ways with Thibodeau following its elimination. The Knicks have looked into interviewing four current NBA head coaches, including the Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Chris Finch, the Houston Rockets' Ime Udoka and the Atlanta Hawks' Quin Snyder. However, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Hawks became the fourth team to deny the Knicks an interview, leaving New York empty-handed to begin its coaching search. Outside of these four potential candidates, New York hasn't revealed much of a plan going forward without Thibodeau. And NBA legend Charles Barkley does not approve. NBA analyst Charles Barkley criticized the New York Jairaj-Imagn Images On Wednesday, Barkley joined ESPN for its pregame coverage of Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Phoenix Suns forward was not pleased with New York's coaching decision, calling them out live on air. Advertisement "The Knicks gotta be the stupidest damn people in the world," Barkley said. "Like, you don't fire a good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, Thibs did a hell of a job. Obviously, something's going on there, but you don't have a plan, and now, the three coaches turn you down. You gotta have a plan, man. And they don't have a plan. Now... I mean, I don't know what the hell they are going to do." Although Thibodeau hasn't won an NBA championship as a head coach, he has still put together an impressive coaching resume. He won two NBA Coach of the Year awards and even led the Knicks to their first conference finals in 25 years. Charles Barkley eviscerates Knicks for lack of post-Tom Thibodeau plan: ‘Stupidest damn people'
One NBA icon is completely befuddled by the Knicks' head coaching situation. New York, which fired Tom Thibodeau after losing the Eastern Conference finals in six games, has been on the hunt for a new head coach but has been denied by at least five teams — including the Mavericks for permission to talk to coach Jason Kidd. Well, Charles Barkley, never shy about sharing his opinion on anything, called out the Knicks on Wednesday night before the Pacers' 116-107 win over the Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Barkley said he believes the Knicks needed a set plan in place after firing Thibodeau, and that they didn't have one. 'The Knicks gotta be the stupidest damn people in the world,' Barkley said on NBA TV. 'You don't fire no good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, Thibs did a hell of a job, obviously something's going on there. … You've gotta have a plan, man. … I don't know what the hell they're going to do.' Along with Kidd, the Knicks have been denied permission to speak with Ime Udoka, Chris Finch, Quin Snyder and Billy Donovan. Charles Barkley called out the Knicks for their process. Awful Announcing/X The Post's Stefan Bondy previously reported that former Villanova coach Jay Wright is not interested in unretiring, while UConn coach Dan Hurley has indicated he does not want to leave Storrs. Barkley is not alone in his criticism of the Knicks, as former Nets bench boss P.J. Carlesimo called out the club for its handling of the situation. Knicks president Leon Rose Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post 'The Knicks always think they're smarter than everybody else, that's the Knick philosophy,' Carlesimo said Tuesday on the 'Ryen Russillo podcast.' 'They think they're different and we're smarter than all these other teams and we know what we're doing, and I would say they're normally the opposite. They're often times their own worst enemy.' Whomever the Knicks hire, they will be taking over a star-studded team that fell just two wins shy of the NBA Finals.
