Shayne O'Cass's tips and inside mail for Monday racing at Tamworth and Albury

Form analyst Shayne O'Cass presents his best bets and inside mail for Monday's NSW meetings at Tamworth and Albury. â– â– â– â– â– TAMWORTH TIPS BEST BET Race 4 No.2 EVERLASTING KISS: Local ion a good yard, last start winner over her main rival as well. NEXT BEST Race 3 No.3 HELLWITHASMILE: Cody Morgan housed gelding whose trials indicate an early career win. VALUE Race 2 No.3 PRIDE OF NATIONS: A $2,000 buy whose trial was not quite priceless, but good anyhow. QUADDIE Race 4: 2,3 Race 5: 2,4,5,10 Race 6: 1,2 Race 7: 2,7 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Kody Nestor has some good rides on Monday's card. TAMWORTH INSIDE MAIL RACE 4: Benchmark 66 (2100m) EVERLASTING KISS (2) has plenty more to offer on the track but she is a breeder's dream for later on. For starters, she is by Justify but it only gets better when you factor in that her fifth dam is Eight Carat. As far as the 'punt' goes here, Everlasting Kiss is racing at home today having beaten her main rival, DESCENDING MIST (3), when they met at Inverell last start. That said, there wasn't much between them. BET: EVERLASTING KISS (2) to win (best bet) exacta 2 to beat 3. NOT IN DOUBT (5) is trained by Cody Morgan who has a 21 per cent winning strike-rate here. With that said, the local Not In Doubt has the visitor's draw but he has been so consistent that it is hard to go around him. GREAT POINT (4) is third-up now and getting close to a win. Those two fifths this prep were behind Tasoraay and Red Rags To Bulls. BET: NOT IN DOUBT (5) to win, quinella 5,4, Daily Double 1st Leg 5, 2nd Leg 2. TAVROS (3) is trained here; he has raced at home four times for two wins and a third. On top of that, his jockey Aaron Bullock is one for one on this (bargain) $12,000 yearling. Never won under 1400m but he is fresh-up off a decent trial. STARRY JACK (1) is so used to carrying big weights. Such an honest horse, such an in-form one too being a last start winner. Myalaby has a tidy CV of 12 starts for two wins and four placings. Most impressive at Warren recently. BET: TAVROS (3) each-way, quinella 1,3. THIS ONE TIME (2) was a $15,000 weanling, sold again at the Classic Yearling Sale making $36,000. Already a winner of $41,000 in six runs, she has some amazing broodmare sires; Seattle Slew, Secretariat, all the way back to Man O'War. Now for what really matters; she (and her jockey) are on a hat-trick, one for one at track and distance. Dynamic Syndications filly SAGAPONACK (7) is a Snitzel, a great granddaughter of Lady Jakeo and is also on a hat-trick! BET: THIS ONE TIME (2) to win, quinella 2,7. â– â– â– â– â– ALBURY TIPS BEST BET Race 2 No.2 DONEGAL BAY: Only needed an extra 50m and he wins the 900m maiden; 1000m now. NEXT BEST Race 6 No.11 JATO: Neville Begg/Danny Beasley galloper who is talented beyond this grade. VALUE Race 7 No.8 JUST LIKE LIAM: Been somewhat unlucky; nice race for him here. ALBURY INSIDE MAIL RACE 4: Benchmark 58 (1175m) TI TREE ROYAL (2) is a Ron Stubbs trained local who led throughout to win rather easily at Corowa first-up with Jason Lyon on from a good draw. same deal today only he is back home. Could/should be hard to run down again. SUNDROP (9) didn't run too badly either side of her Corowa win. Is usually strong late and often in significantly better races than this one on Monday. Luke Pepper's IMABARBIEGIRL (6) has claims. BET: TI TREE ROYAL (2) to win, SUNDROP (9) to place, exacta 2 to beat 9. ROCKBARTON SHOUT (1) has raced 13 times for Andrew Dale; winning five, four seconds and twice third. Been here twice for a win and a second. That second was a nose behind Ditterich who will run here as well. back to Rockbarton Shout just to add that she has 'a winning draw' if good enough. MAGNOLIA STAR (13) was too fast for the others when she won here on May 27. BET: ROCKBARTON SHOUT (1) to win, Daily Double 1sr Leg 1, 2nd Leg 8. JATO (11) was bought by Neville Begg for $25,000 as a weanling. The Starcraft filly (out of Zabeel Adrian Knox runner-up, Rahveel) has a real future in the mid to long term. The Danny Beasley-trained 3YO has done some good things in her five starts. She is a 64-rater in an 82 but has a lot of upside. SMART POPPY (5) beat Blow In by inches last at Wagga with Saturday's Highway placegetter Salute Again in third that day. JUST LIKE LIAM (8) hasn't had the best of luck of late. He could have nearly won a Benchmark 66 at Wagga on Town Plate day but for barrier one (boxed in). Back to the mile from two 2000m runs with three weeks off to freshen sets him up to run well. BELLMAN (2) was scratched from a race at home at Wangaratta on Sunday to run here. The Andrew Dale trained Kiwi-bred gelding has finished runner-up in four starts at the Albury 1600m. WHIRLWIND (4) and WARPAINTED (6) are among the chances.

Parkes preview, best bets, inside mail for Sunday, May 18, 2025

Jockey Kody Nestor was successful on the Parkes Cup from a wide barrier two years ago and he hopes history can repeat when he partners Lockdown Gamble in this year's edition. In 2023, Nestor partnered the Mack Griffith-trained up and comer Osman to a three length win from barrier 10 – the outside gate. Nestor and Lockdown Gamble have the outside gate in this year's Parkes Cup (1600m) - barrier 14 of 14 – but will jump from barrier 12 under his big weight of 63kg. 'I haven't ridden him in a race before but I have seen plenty of him,' said Nestor. 'Obviously, he has to lump it again and he has drawn wide but he is the proven galloper in the field. 'He's won a Wellington Cup which is a Big Dance Qualifier. The Parkes Cup which is more of a second tier country cup. LOCKDOWN GAMBLE wins the Wellington Cup! Consolation from the Country Championships for @DJSRacing6 as Lockdown Gamble survives a protest from Danish Prince to win the @WellingtonRaces Cup and earn Big Dance ðŸ'ƒ eligibility. Sizzle Minizzle ran a close third. @tabcomau â€' Racing NSW (@racing_nsw) April 14, 2024 The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here! 'He looks the one to beat on paper, no doubt.' The David Smith -trained gelding heads into the race in terrific form. He resumed this campaign with third to Osman in the Mudgee Cup on February 23 and his next run at Mudgee last Sunday when he won the Benchmark 82 over 1400m with 63kg. 'It was a good, tough win the other day with a big weight,' Nestor said. 'He's got a couple of things against him – his big weight and wide barrier- but he has the class to overcome them. 'His greatest attributes are his last 100m to a furlong along with his toughness and consistency.' Nestor was pleased with the first-up run of Kora Magic at Dubbo two weeks ago and partners the mare again when she contests the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m). The Mark Jones -trained mare led from barrier 11 and was only caught in the last 20m to finish third behind Cumnock and Twilight Rock. 'She was just beaten the other day first-up without a barrier trial. I thought she was really game,' he said. 'She had a good blow coming back in so she is going to improve off that run. 'We have drawn wide again but she has the early pace to offset the gate. I expect her to lead easily and with the circumference of Parkes, it will be a lot easier on her than Dubbo. The Mark Jones trained Kora Magic gives Ronald Simpson an early race to race double! â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 5, 2023 'Dubbo is a very open track and you are exposed a long way from home whereas at Parkes, you can skip off the corner and it's not the longest run home. 'She will be thereabouts in the finish again.' Nestor and Queanbeyan trainer Nick Olive have enjoyed a couple of winners together in recent months including Just Go Bang in the Gilgandra Cup and combine with two good chances this weekend. Sooboogeliscious has been just behind the placegetters in two runs back from a spell and looks ready to peak in the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m). 'It's a nice competitive race and he is one of the chances,' Nestor said. 'It was a nice run last start and he looks ready to peak third-up. 'He should get a lovely run without doing any work from the inside gate. We just have to pick and choose our runs at the right time.' Midnight Affair will appreciate a drop in grade when she returns to country racing in the Class 2 Handicap (1600m). 'She has been competitive in Highways and better class races than what she is going around in this weekend,' he said. 'We just need an ounce of luck from the barrier. 'Egyptologist is the one to beat but he first-up over the mile. 'I'm just hoping the fitness edge we have can make the difference.' ADAM SHERRY'S TOP SELECTIONS BEST BET Race 5 No. 10: COUGARS Will take improvement his first-up fifth. Soft track suits. NEXT BEST Race 6 No. 1: LOVE SHUCK Was good late in the Wagga Town Plate. This is easier. VALUE BET Race 8 No. 4: SOOBOOGELISCIOUS Just behind the placegetters in both runs back and ready to peak. QUADDIE Race 5: 4, 9, 10 Race 6: 1, 8, 10 Race 7: 1, 5, 7, 9 Race 8: 1, 4, 13 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Kody Nestor has a nice book of rides and looks a good chance in the TAB Jockey Challenge. INSIDE MAIL – PARKES SPRING PROSPECT (8) lost the rider pre-race then raced keenly when fifth on debut at Mudgee in December. Has been very good in both trials this time back. Was kept under a hold to beat Egyptologist in his May 4 Dubbo heat. AMORUSO (6) is a debutant by Santos. Led by a big margin and kept on the bridle to win her Apr 1 Tamworth trial by nearly four lengths. CERONS (1) was just behind the placegetters in two recent Queensland runs. Was second in the Maribyrnong Trial on debut. BILLABONG ROSE (8) resumes without a trial. Was momentarily held up on straightening when second to Bondi Prophet at Muswellbrook first-up last campaign. TURNING CIRCLE (13) was a handy third to Oakfield Saturn first-up then raced wide when down the order at Kembla. She didn't handle the Heavy 10 when fourth as favourite at Wyong last start. SWEET KICK (12) was a two length fourth at Sale on debut on Sept 11. Changed stables and well beaten first-up before an improved run when fourth at Dubbo on May 4. MIDNIGHT AFFAIR (2) drops back in grade after running in TAB Highways at her past two starts, the latest a fourth to Canadian Ruler at Hawkesbury's stand-alone meeting. Had a win and two close seconds at her previous three runs in the country. EGYPTOLOGIST (1) was good last preparation when a first-up second at Dubbo before back-to-back wins at Mudgee and Dubbo. Given a shake up when second to Spring Prospect in his May 4 Dubbo trial. NAVAL OFFICER (4) made ground when fourth to Zoomorphic at Dubbo before winning at Wellington. KORA MAGIC (8) led from a wide gate and just run down late when third to Cumnock when resuming at Dubbo. Went in without a trial and will be better for the run. SHERIDAN STREET (6) led all-the-way for a debut win at Gundagai on Apr 6. Began awkwardly and over-raced when always well back at Wagga last start. Can bounce back. THE MOOCH (11) was a close second to All Astern at Queanbeyan last start. Gets a nice run from the draw. COUGARS (10) sat outside the leaders before racing away to a big maiden win at the Sapphire Coast to end last campaign. Copped a decent bumped at the start before working forward to be outside the leader and just faded late when resuming with a fifth to Miss Emma at Wagga on May 2. MICRO MIKKI (4) made his NSW debut with a nose win at Narromine before a good win from Joy Of The World at Wellington both over 1100m. LADY ISHIKAWA (9) resumes for a new stable. Scored back-to-back wins at Newcastle last campaign. LOVE SHUCK (1) hasn't had a lot of luck this campaign. Held up on the bend when second to Fangela at Canberra first-up. Again held up until passing the 200 when third to I Am Lethal in the Town Plate Prelude at Wagga and knuckled on jumping when sixth to Compelling Truth in the Wagga Town Plate. KEIKOKU (10) was help up until near the 70m when seventh to So You Pence at Wagga last start. Should have finished much closer. STARROS (8) tackled a Randwick Highway last start. Nice Hawkesbury win and made ground at Canterbury when seventh to Yiska. LOCKDOWN GAMBLE (1) is backing up from a solid first-up win under 63kg over Stratified at Mudgee last weekend. Has the same big weight again but is the class runner of the field. Did win the Wellington Cup last year. LOOSE LOVE (7) won over 1400m here to start his current campaign. Ran on nicely to finish a nose third behind Dark Vador at Wagga last start. ROUGE MOULIN (9) raced in the Highway at Scone yesterday. SIZZLE MINIZZLE (5) is back from a Queensland campaign. Just behind the placegetters at Eagle Farm his last two. SOOBOOGELISCIOUS (4) sat outside the leader and battled away for fifth at Queanbeyan when resuming before a half-length fourth to Capital Heart at the Sapphire Coast. Ready to peak third-up and gets an ideal run from the inside gate. RAYMOND'S REWARD (1) is shooting for a hat-trick after a handy win at Armidale followed by an al-the-way win at Gunnedah. MISS CAPRICORN (13) was badly crowded on jumping and settled a long way back when seventh to Zoomorphic at Dubbo last start. Nice win there the start before.

NEXT BEST Race 4 No.11 THE GIT UP: Placed six of 10 and in some uncommonly strong maidens in the area. VALUE Race 1 No.7 ROSIE I AM: Building towards a win and finds a race seemingly within her reach. QUADDIE Race 4: 4,11 Race 5: 2,3,5 Race 6: 1,6,7 Race 7: 1,2 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Kody Nestor will have plenty of admirers in Tuesday's Jockey Challenge. ROSIE I AM (7) is yet to place in her four starts but she has turned in a couple of fourths including at Narromine on April 29 on a Heavy 8 over 1100m. Interestingly, and unusually in these modern times, her grand-dam is by Sir Tristram which would suggest that 1400m (today) is what she wants. WITHANIA (8) handed in, by far, the best run of her half dozen starts when second at Binnaway 10-days ago. That said, it was Binnaway. Zeebrugge has claims (if here). Withania's stablemate MILLEPIED (3) was third to said horse in that 1300m Binnaway Maiden. BET: ROSIE I AM (7) to win. TWINING CLASS (3) is a sparingly-raced five-year-old son of Black Caviar's brother Moshe. So much so that the Clint Lundholm trained gelding has just two starts on his CV. The first was a third to the handy Bolo Miss here at Wellington. The last, and most recent, was a fourth at home at Dubbo over 1100m. Coming back to 1000m won't hurt him nor will barrier 12 with Kody Nestor! IMASTATEMENT (7) went within inches of winning a 1000m Dubbo Maiden on April 7 which he followed up with a fading fourth at Narromine. To be fair, that was 1100m on a Heavy 8. BET: TWINING CLASS (3) to win (best bet). NAVAL OFFICER (1) 's grand-dam is by Jeune which gives him some of his stamina. That said, he's got plenty of speed in his make-up too with broodmares sires like County, Oenjay Star and Luskin Star. One more family tie if I may, his 9th Dam is Golden Chariot (Wenona Girls' mother). As for the 'punt', this is a very winnable and suitable race for a very fit and mostly reliable horse. Speaking of fit and reliable, QUINKY DEEL (2) has only won once ion 18 starts but has seven placings and could be looking for this trip now. BET: NAVAL OFFICER (1) to win, quinella 1,2. THE GIT UP (11) has three seconds and three thirds from her ten starts. You can only attribute one 'bad' run to her in all that time. So far lately goes, she was a distant second to the above-average Pressnell here first-up over 1000m; 1100m suits her better. MATILDA OF TUSCANY (4) trialled well prior to her honourable debut third at Narromine on a Heavy 8. Favourably drawn this time. Stablemate BEST DEFENCE (9) likewise jumps from a good alley and is close to a win. BET: THE GIT UP (11) to win. PRESSNELL (3) is a son of Press Statement so we all know where he gets his name from. He was impressive to the 'max' (sorry, that was too easy!) when he won at Dubbo on May 4 beating the aforementioned The Git Up and co. Simple fact is, he won like a good horse and he might well turn out that way. MICRO MIKKI (2) was $1.70 into $1.30 at his NSW debut at Narromine late last month, falling over the line to beat the Best Defense (see above). Respect the combo. BET: PRESSNELL (3) to win, Daily Double 1st Leg (3), 2nd Leg (1). SPORTS PAGE (1) has raced 22 times for five wins and six placings; which would make her a favourite of each-way punters with that 50 per cent record of hers. A few other stats that make compelling reading are that she is one for one at the track and distance; a distance that really is her pet trip. WILLINGA KARISMA (6) is fourth run in now for Clint Lundholm and had 'next time' written all over her when strong through the line at Narromine over 1300m. TROPICANA'S CUBE (7) is in the mix. CUMBOOGLE (1) has won all three this preparation; which is no surprise but what is rather (pleasantly) shocking for those who have been along for the ride is his SPs; $9, $6,50 and $5 – that's pretty generous about a horse that has been winning as often and as easily as he has. Of course it is harder to keep winning but no reason at all to be against him today. DIVINE SINNER (2) ran third to Cumboogle when they met at Orange on April 11 and franked his own form by winning at Narromine at his very next outing. DIZE (5) and ROCK 'N' REIGN (11) have claims. BET: CUMBOOGLE (1) to win, exacta 1 to beat 2. â– â– â– â– â– TAREE TIPS
