Canon rides AI boom to grab a piece of ASML's domain

TOKYO -- Canon opened a chipmaking equipment plant for the first time in 21 years Wednesday, as the Japanese manufacturer looks to ride the artificial intelligence boom to capture demand in a market dominated by the global leader ASML Holding.
Built as an addition to the company's production center in Utsunomiya, a city north of Tokyo, the new plant will start making semiconductor lithography systems in September.
