Abducted businessman rescued from Kollam; ex-employee arrested
Kozhikode: Expatriate businessman V P Shameer, who was abducted from Pandikkad in Malappuram on Tuesday night, was tracked down to Anchal in Kollam on Thursday.
Police rescued the 36-year-old and have arrested six persons in connection with the incident. The accused have been identified as Chavakkad natives Shamseer and his friends Hamsheer, Fayaz, Afsal, Muhammed Naif and Shaheer
They were arrested around 11.30am on Wednesday while attempting to cross into Tamil Nadu in a vehicle.
Malappuram district police chief R Vishwanath said that as per preliminary information, it is believed that the abduction was motivated by resentment harboured by Shamsheer, a former employee at Shameer's firm who had been dismissed from service. Shamsheer had earlier threatened him seeking demands.
A key breakthrough in the probe came when Shameer's mobile phone was switched on twice in Ernakulam. Police deduced that the gang had passed through Ernakulam and might have reached friends in Kollam. Kollam Rural Police joined the operation. The accused, who had reached Thrissur, switched to another car before continuing their journey.
The investigation was led by Perinthalmanna DSP Premjith and his team.
