Korea Medical Institute earns WHO Health Promoting Hospitals certification

Korea Medical Institute, which operates medical checkup centers across the country, announced Tuesday that it received official certification on July 15 from the World Health Organization's Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services network. The WHO-HPH program, joined by more than 600 institutions in 30 countries, evaluates whether health care providers have systems that meet international standards for health promotion — going beyond medical treatment to include community wellness efforts. The certification is valid through 2028. With it, KMI plans to expand its focus from managing the health of patients and staff to supporting health promotion in the broader community. Its eight nationwide centers already provide free medical checkups for vulnerable groups, run public health campaigns and operate a volunteer group called the 'KMI-rang Volunteer Corps.' Notable activities include plogging events from Seoul to Jeju Island and a tree-planting initiative in Mongolia's Terelj National Park to support carbon neutrality. 'With the WHO-HPH certification, we will broaden the exchange of best practices in health promotion with domestic and international medical institutions, while expanding global access to our uniquely Korean medical check-up system,' Lee Kwang-bae, chairman of KMI, stated. 'We are also committed to identifying sustainable health-promotion strategies for the benefit of local communities.' Founded in 1985, KMI runs eight medical centers in Korea and has also launched a joint clinic in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Korea Medical Institute honored for advancing global health care

The Korea Medical Institute, or KMI, one of the country's leading medical checkup providers, announced Wednesday that it received a commendation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare during the Medical Korea 2025 event on March 22. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, KMI was recognized for its efforts in promoting Korea's medical checkup system abroad and improving international health care services through its extensive global network. KMI also participated in the Korea Health Industry Development Institute's medical overseas expansion project in 2024 and successfully established a Korean-style medical checkup center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. 'It is a great honor to be recognized for our contribution to the advancement of global health care on behalf of Korea's checkup institutions,' said KMI Chairman Lee Kwang-bae. 'We will continue to build trust with our global patients and promote the excellence of Korea's medical checkup system worldwide.'

Korea Medical Institute publishes health habits book for kids

Korea Medical Institute, one of Korea's leading medical checkup institutions, on Thursday announced the publication of its 'I AM KMI,' picture book to promote healthy lifestyles among children in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The book's protagonist, KMI, serves as a health guardian who connects with young readers by introducing health-related concepts and promoting physical and emotional well-being in a fun and interactive way. To enhance engagement, the book also includes various edutainment elements such as coloring activities, maze games and pop quizzes. 'Since childhood habits have a lasting impact into adulthood, children must develop healthy daily rhythms early on,' said KMI Chairman Lee Kwang-bae. KMI celebrates launch of health care center for global patients

The Korea Medical Institute announced Wednesday that it held a commemorative event to mark the opening of its new health care center, aimed at enhancing medical services for foreign visitors. The event, titled Global Partners Day, took place last Friday and celebrated the Jan. 20 opening of the International Healthcare Center at the institute's newly expanded Gwanghwamun Center. The new international unit aims to provide international visitors with customized medical checkups and improved access to health care services. KMI, founded in 1985, is a leading medical checkup provider with eight centers nationwide, including three in Seoul. The new center enhances accessibility while showcasing Korea's advanced medical screening expertise globally, the institute said. At the event, which drew about 100 guests, KMI outlined the IHC's role in serving foreign patients, with services including medical consultations, payment assistance, language support and comprehensive health screening guidance. The center will offer a range of programs, including medical referral services, partnerships with other health care institutions and collaborative business initiatives. Visitors can also explore the Smart Health Experience Zone, which showcases interactive demonstrations of advanced health care technology. 'The Gwanghwamun Center will go beyond providing medical checkup services to become a space that offers a unique and differentiated experience for medical tourists,' KMI Chairman Lee Kwang-bae said. 'Through the IHC, we aim to enhance convenience for foreign examinees while expanding opportunities for mutual growth by strengthening partnerships with medical tourism agencies," Lee added.
