Herkimer man dead after crash, police investigating
A 43-year-old man is dead after a crash in Herkimer, according to New York State Police.
At around 3:27 p.m. on June 18, New York State Police received a call for a crash on West German Street in the village of Herkimer.
A state police investigation revealed that a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed east on West German Street and exited the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree.
The operator, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital, where the operator was pronounced deceased.

State police have identified the driver as James Kowalczik, 43, of Herkimer.
Kowalczik was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
