Impilo hosts hands-on Mandela Day event to support children in crisis

Honouring Nelson Mandela's legacy, Impilo Child Protection and Adoption Services hosted a vibrant and meaningful Mandela Day event on July 18, inviting community members and organisations to volunteer their 67 minutes in support of vulnerable children and families. The organisation opened its doors from 09:00 to 14:00, offering a wide range of hands-on activities. Volunteers participated in various activities, including making soup for the children, knitting blankets, packing baby rescue kits and new mom bags, painting and varnishing walls, gardening, cleaning storerooms, and engaging in playtime with the little ones. 'We wanted to give people an overview of what we do here,' said Krawitz. 'We had an exhibition and talk in our boardroom, then we encouraged everyone to get involved, whether it was packing bags for moms, abandoned baby kits, painting the wall, cleaning, gardening, or knitting blankets. Everything that's brought in is used,' she said. The organisation received generous donations, including baby goods, toiletries, groceries, and household essentials. Krawitz shared her appreciation for the strong turnout and community spirit.
