Notre Dame seniors host carnival for special needs community
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)—Notre Dame High School seniors hosted a carnival for people with special needs on Thursday, June 12.
Notre Dame has been hosting the carnival for many years as part of a way for the students to be involved with the community.
'Eight years ago, we started it because two of our students had younger siblings with special needs, and so we decided to throw a little carnival for them, and then it just grew after that,' said Alexis Collins, Notre Dame High School Student.

All of the activities were free and open to the public, which included, but were not limited to, a slip in slide, bounce house, and dunk tank.
People of all ages attended the event, and some were from the Greater Southern Tier of BOCES, The Arc Chemung-Schuyler, and Bethany Village.
'I think it's something that all of the kids look forward to, it's a quieter setting than maybe like a fair or a bigger carnival, and so there's less noise, and so it's more relaxing for those kids to spend some time with us,' said Kristie Crossley, Notre Dame High School Director of International Students.

The carnival is part of the senior class of 2025's student activities before graduation.
'I think it's something that all of the kids look forward to. It's a quieter setting than maybe like a fair or a bigger carnival, and so there's less noise, and so it's more relaxing for those kids to spend some time with us,' said Kristie Crossley, Director of International Students at Notre Dame High School.
According to the administrators, the students enjoy hosting the carnival every year.
'It makes me feel really good giving back to the community and having the chance to support the local community,' said Alexis Collins, a Notre Dame High School Student
