Colorado man arrested in Canandaigua on felony gun charge after tip
CANANDAIGUA, NY — A tip to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office mobile app has led to the arrest of a Colorado man on a felony gun charge.
Kristopher Jon Culbertson, 42, was charged Aug. 19 with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony, after a search warrant was executed on his vehicle, according to deputies.
Culbertson was arraigned Aug. 20 and released after posting $5,000 cash bail, deputies said.
Investigators allegedly found an assault rifle and several loaded 30-round magazines for it as well as a handgun with loaded magazines and body armor, deputies said. Deputies said Culbertson does not have a New York pistol permit and is prevented from owning these weapons in any state, according to Colorado court documentation.
In addition to the Sheriff's Office, the Canandaigua and Geneva police departments, the Ontario County District Attorney's Office and Colorado State Police assisted in the investigation.
In a statement, Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione said this is a reminder to community members that if they see something, say something.
'This successful investigation highlights the ongoing commitment of our law enforcement officers to keeping our Ontario County community safe by removing dangerous firearms from our streets,' Cirencione stated. 'We will continue doing everything in our power to protect our community.'
