Japan to collaborate on Thailand's decarbonization efforts
Japan has agreed to collaborate with Thailand on a program to accelerate decarbonization in the Southeast Asian nation's industrial sector. They will work together to introduce energy-saving technology in factories.
The initiative is part of a framework called the Asia Zero Emission Community, or AZEC, set up by Japan. It is aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and economic growth in the region in partnership with Southeast Asian countries.
Government officials from both nations took part in a ceremony in Bangkok on Tuesday. Many Japanese automakers have production bases in Thailand.
Krittiya Petsee of Thailand's Energy Ministry said, "We are confident that this framework will be a key mechanism in driving a future of clean, secure and sustainable energy."
Sakuma Kazuko of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation said, "One advantage we bring is that there are many Japanese companies with excellent energy-saving technologies. There are also numerous support programs offered by public institutions like ours."
The two governments plan to hold a conference to connect Thai businesses with Japanese companies that have advanced energy-saving technologies. They will also coordinate to provide financial support for capital investment.
