TOKYO: Typhoon Krosa, also known as Typhoon No. 9, was slowly moving north-northwest on the Pacific Ocean south of Japan as of 9 a.m. Thursday (July 31), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency's 9:50 a.m. announcement. The typhoon's central pressure was 980 hectopascals and the top speed near the centre was 90 kph. Typhoon Krosa Set to Remain Near Japan's Ogasawara Islands until Thursday; Weather Agency Warns of High Waves, Landslides
Typhoon Krosa, also known as Typhoon No. 9, remained almost stationary off the coast of the Ogasawara Islands on Wednesday morning and is expected to remain in the area until Thursday. The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be cautious of high waves, landslides and swells. According to the agency, the typhoon was almost stationary over the sea about 210 kilometers north of Chichijima Island as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The typhoon's central pressure was 985 hectopascals and the top speed near the center was 72 kph.

Double Typhoons Approaching Japan; One to Okinawa, Another to Ogasawara Islands
Typhoon Komei, also known as Typhoon No. 8, which had turned into a tropical cyclone, became a typhoon again Sunday night over the sea near the main island of Okinawa. It will pass near the main island of Okinawa on Monday afternoon. As of 9 a.m. Monday, Typhoon Komei was moving westward at a speed of about 20 km/h about 30 km east of Naha. The central pressure is 990 hectopascals and the maximum wind speed is about 20 meters. It is expected to move toward the Chinese mainland through Tuesday. Meanwhile, a large and strong Typhoon Krosa, also known as Typhoon No. 9, is moving northward at about 30 km/h with stormy winds as of 9:00 a.m. Monday morning over the waters near the Ogasawara Islands. The central pressure is 965 hectopascals, and the maximum wind speed near the center is 40 meters. It is expected to reach the Ogasawara Islands through Tuesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning of high waves and storms with swells.

Habagat to prevail, bring rains on SONA Day
The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to prevail over the Philippines on Monday and will bring rains on the day President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will give his State of the Nation Address (SONA), PAGASA said. The Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan will have occasional rains. Moderate to heavy rains may possibly result in floods or landslides. In its heavy rainfall outlook issued at 5 a.m., PAGASA said 50 to 10 mm of rainfall may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan. Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains. The rest of the country on the other hand will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may possibly occur. Coastal waters will be rough in Extreme Northern Luzon, and moderate to rough in the western section of Luzon. The rest of the country will have slight to moderate coastal waters. Sunrise was at 5:38 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:27 p.m. Co-May and Krosa Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring two weather cyclones outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Tropical Storm Co-May, formerly known as Emong when it was inside PAR, was estimated to be last located early Monday at 985 km northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km//h. Co-May is moving northwestward at 15 km/h. DOST-PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina, in the weather bureau's public weather forecast, said Co-May is heading toward China. Typhoon Krosa, on the other hand, was last located early Monday at 2,455 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and with gustiness of up to 160 km/h. Krosa is moving northward at 30 km/h. "Hindi inaasahan na papasok ito ng PAR (It is not expected that this will enter PAR)," Badrina said.
