Family of six loses home to fire
BALING: A family of six has been left homeless after their home in Kampung Seberang Pekan was destroyed by fire last night.
The couple, both aged 73, and their family — including two children, aged eight and 11 — were believed to have just returned from attending a religious lecture and performing Maghrib prayers at Baling Mosque when they discovered their house engulfed in flames.
Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief, Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil, said his team received an emergency call about the fire at 9.07pm.
He and six firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to lead the operation.
"Upon arrival, we found the two-storey class B (temporary) house — with a stone ground floor and wooden upper floor — already 95 per cent destroyed.
"When my team and I arrived, the fire was raging.
"We also faced challenges as the access route for fire engines was very narrow, and large crowds near the scene hindered our vehicles' access to the location," he said when contacted today.
Zulkhairi added that the Kampung Lalang, Kuala Ketil Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) assisted the operation with 15 personnel.
He said it took nearly an hour to fully extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses, which were only two metres away.
"No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire and total losses are still under investigation," he added.
