RTM-DBP Epic Supertele ‘Srikandi' To Air On Aug 31 In Celebration Of Independence Month
By Siti Maisarah Abdul Ghani KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), has produced the epic supertele entitled 'Srikandi' to be aired on Aug 31, in conjunction with the Independence Month celebrations. Its director-general (DG) of Broadcasting, Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman said that the special feature inspired by the classic masterpiece "Syair Siti Zubaidah Perang China," published by DBP with the support of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Pahang State Secretary's Office, successfully produced a quality script. "After more than six months of hard work since last October, including over a month of filming at various locations around Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, this project is now in the final phase of production. This drama is the first special epic story by RTM produced on a mega scale and using a film format with the assistance of FINAS. "The film set of 'Srikandi' highlights historical locations and natural beauty, especially in Pahang, such as Jerantut, Kuala Tahan, Sungai Lembing, Kuantan and Pulau Tioman," he said during a special meet-and-greet session for the film at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2025 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today. Also present at the event were the DBP DG Dr. Hazami Jahari, 'Srikandi' director Wan Mohd Afzam Wan Daud, and some of the film's cast. Suhaimi said this feature is not just entertainment but also an intellectual work that uses modern technology to create a cinematic impact. He said the 'Srikandi' script is targeted for competition in film festivals and to be marketed internationally. Meanwhile, Wan Mohd Afzam said the drama, which combines elements of reality and fiction from the pre-16th century era, highlights the spirit of struggle and wisdom of Malay women through the lead character Siti Zubaidah.

'King Gobal' kicks off his new book
KUALA LUMPUR: Football legend Datuk K. Rajagobal officially launched his own autobiography titled "Inilah Saya K. Rajagobal" today. The memoir, which chronicles Rajagobal's chequered footballing life — its triumphs and tribulations — was launched at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at the World Trade Centre. The 68-year-old's epic three-decade journey through Malaysian football — both as a flamboyant winger for Selangor and successful national coach — offers inspiration to future generations of Malaysian footballers. At the launch of his much-anticipated autobiography (written in Bahasa Malaysia), Rajagobal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those in attendance, including Kumpulan Karangkraf co-adviser Datuk Nasir Hamzah, FA of Malaysia deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundram, and former national players Datuk Reduan Abdullah, Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, K. Gurusamy and Razman Roslan. "This book is not just about me as a coach, it's about sharing my experiences, my struggles — falling down and rising again. That's what I want to give to all Malaysians," said Rajagobal at the launch. "I don't want to just highlight my achievements. I want to tell the younger generation that anyone — regardless of whether they're in sports — can succeed if they work hard, stay disciplined, and hold on to their dreams." Affectionately called "The Blessed One" by his fans, Rajagobal hopes the book will motivate readers to persevere through life's challenges. "Our journey is not always easy. There will be hardships and setbacks, but what matters is how we respond. Every time I fell, I got back up. I want to share that spirit. I hope this book becomes a source of inspiration, a reflection of the Malaysian soul," he said. Rajagobal's coaching journey included stints with PKNS, Selangor, Kelantan, Sarawak and Brunei, but it was with the national teams — Harimau Muda, Malaysia Under-23s, and the senior side — that he cemented his legacy. He guided the national team to a historic gold medal at the 2009 Laos Sea Games before delivering Malaysia's maiden AFF Championship title a year later — a landmark moment in the country's football history. Rajagobal closed his speech with a humble acknowledgment of the collective effort behind his achievements. "Without the players, I cannot succeed. Without the officials, I cannot succeed. That's why I want to thank everyone who has supported me," he said.

Ex-Malaysian footballer, coach K. Rajagobal's ‘Inilah Saya' book a nine-year project in the making
Datuk K. Rajagobal was standing at the cashier of an eatery in Publika, Kuala Lumpur, waiting to pay for his meal, when he was approached by a gentleman who recognised the legendary sports figure. Others in the shop had their eyes on him, knowing very well who he was. That is the power of 'King Raja'. Despite having played for Selangor and Malaysia some four decades ago, and later gaining national fame as coach from 2009 to 2013, Rajagobal continues to attract attention wherever he goes. Much has been written and said about Rajagobal, but he is best remembered as the man behind the euphoria that swept the nation when his squad won the 2009 SEA Games gold medal and the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup in 2010. Malaysians proudly wore the national jersey again, and many believed that more glory was on the horizon. Unfortunately, Malaysia has not won either tournament since. Fresh from recording a Julang podcast episode with seasoned journalist Rizal Hashim and Twentytwo13 editor Haresh Deol on May 29, Rajagobal sat down with the duo to talk about his book Inilah Saya (This is Me), which will be showcased at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at the World Trade Centre tomorrow. In his trademark white shirt, adorned with a sewn-on Jalur Gemilang on the left, Rajagobal spoke over teh tarik (tea) and roti bakar (toast). 'After winning the AFF Cup in 2010, many told me to write a book about my journey and success. But it wasn't the right time,' he said. 'When I left the FA of Malaysia (FAM) in 2013, I thought it might finally be the right time. My eldest son, Kanason, told me, 'Appa, why don't you write a book?' I was still busy coaching, but when I returned from Sarawak in 2016, that's when I decided to start working on it.' 'It's been a nine-year project because of several delays. I was coaching PKNS FC between 2018 and 2019, so things stalled then. But once that ended, I got back to working on the book.' Asked why he decided to write it, Rajagobal said: 'I want to share my journey – the challenges I faced, my struggles, my hardships. I also want the younger generation to realise that anything can be achieved if we are mentally strong. Just focus on hard work, and you won't be easily defeated. You'll fall many times, but you'll get up.' 'I also hope this book inspires, motivates, and encourages Malaysians to be patriotic. The younger generation is our future.' 'I would love to see other legends and future players from various sports document their journeys and achievements. It allows others to learn from different experiences and become better individuals.' Priced at RM49, Inilah Saya is available at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair. Rajagobal will hold a meet-and-greet session at the fair tomorrow (May 29) from 11am to 1.30pm. The book is also available online at Karangkraf Mall.

Azmi Hassan's 'Diplomasia' makes current affairs more accessible to youth
KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts to foster greater interest among youth in diplomacy and foreign policy have been given a fresh impetus with the publication of 'Diplomasia', the debut book by Malaysian geostrategist Prof Dr Azmi Hassan. Written in an accessible style and complemented by illustrations, the book is specifically crafted to engage younger readers, who often perceive geopolitics as overly technical and uninteresting. Speaking after the book's launch at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (KLIBF) here today, Azmi said the approach was chosen to make it easier for young people to understand current affairs. "I wrote this book in a simple language. Issues such as tensions in the South China Sea or the Asean Summit 2025 are presented in a narrative style with colour illustrations to capture readers' attention. "This book might also rekindle patriotic and nationalistic spirit among youth, as it includes explanations on historical names of the country such as Malaya and Federation of Malaya, which are becoming increasingly unfamiliar to the younger generation," he said. With more than a decade of experience in geostrategic analysis, Azmi is a well-known figure across various media platforms, frequently offering academic perspectives on both local and international geopolitical matters. According to the book's publisher, PTS Publishing House, Diplomasia is a compilation of current issues that explores Malaysia's soft power on the world stage, including behind-the-scenes insights into the current political landscape. "The book aims to open readers' eyes to Malaysia's wisdom in negotiation and its principled courage, even when dealing with competing global powers," it said in a statement. Among the topics covered in Diplomasia are the Sabah claim, tensions in the South China Sea, Malaysia-Singapore relations, and Malaysia's position in the MH17 tragedy. The book is available from PTS Publishing House starting today at a price of RM35. – Bernama

2024 MADANI Book Voucher Programme Achieves 100Pct Redemption Rate
KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- The 2024 MADANI book voucher programme has recorded a 100 per cent redemption rate, reflecting strong enthusiasm among students and a growing interest in quality reading materials. Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB) chief executive officer Adibah Omar said the initiative not only demonstrates appreciation for government support but also effectively rekindles a reading culture. 'The vouchers have motivated those who rarely read to start exploring books. For many, even RM100 a year for reading materials is a burden, making this initiative crucial in providing fairer access to knowledge,' she said. Adibah said this after presenting findings from the 2024 MADANI Book Voucher Impact Study at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2025, held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). The study showed that 99.2 per cent of respondents support the continuation of the programme, with suggestions for wider internet access, simpler redemption processes, and a more user-friendly website. Notably, 94.5 per cent agreed the programme successfully encourages reading, while 97.5 per cent said it benefits students from lower-income households. 'About 72.1 per cent were satisfied with the easier and more transparent online redemption process compared to the previous physical voucher method,' she added. Adibah also said PKB has ensured equal access to quality books for students in both urban and rural areas, including Sabah and Sarawak. 'For example, children in Kinabatangan, Sook, Keningau, and Tawau now enjoy the same access as those in Melawati or Petaling Jaya,' she said.
