Out of jealousy, Form One girl tied and gagged in school toilet by classmates in Sg Petani
SUNGAI PETANI, July 20 — A Form One female student was allegedly tied up and gagged by two schoolmates in a secondary school toilet here, in what police suspect was an act of bullying driven by jealousy. The 13-year-old was found with her hands and feet bound using a necktie and her mouth gagged with a handkerchief last Monday. 'Both suspects, who are also 13, admitted to committing the act out of jealousy,' BuletinTV3 wrote quoting Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan yesterday. 'Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are currently being remanded under Sections 323 and 324 of the Penal Code.' Both Sections cover 'voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means' and its punishment. The incident reportedly came to light when the victim's mother, waiting outside the school at 6.30pm, became worried when her daughter failed to appear. She and a school security guard began searching the premises and found the girl in the toilet. The victim was taken to hospital for minor injuries to her legs and hands, and for trauma treatment. Her mother later lodged a police report over the incident. This comes as Mara chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged yesterday for a united push to recognise bullying as a crime and end its normalisation as harmless pranks.

Cop's fake MC habit exposes Sg Petani syndicate selling forged documents to civil servants for RM30 each
SUNGAI PETANI, July 6 —Police have arrested three men believed to be the masterminds behind the sale of fake medical certificates (MCs) in the district over the past two years. Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the group's modus operandi involved issuing MCs without the need for any medical consultation or treatment. He said the case came to light during a probe into a breach of integrity involving a low-ranking police personnel who had frequently submitted MCs. 'This led to the discovery of the group selling fake MCs,' he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here today. According to him, during a raid on a premises in Taman Songket Indah near here at 4.30 am on June 26, police seized various items, including about 20 fake MCs, tablets, rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, A4-sized paper, a laptop and a printer. Hanyan said the three unemployed suspects, in their 30s and 40s, sold fake MCs for RM25 to RM30 a day, targeting civil servants as their primary 'customers'. He said the main suspect was found to be a heart patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital. 'During each hospital visit, the suspect would note down the attending doctor's name and later use it on rubber stamps. Most of the names belonged to actual doctors, but the job titles were inaccurate,' Hanyan said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code. — Bernama

Wife of man shot dead in Sg Petani shootout arrested, pistol seized from couple's rented home
SUNGAI PETANI, July 6 — The police have arrested the wife of a man who was shot dead in a gunfight with police in Bandar Puteri Jaya here last night. Harian Metro reported Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan saying the woman, believed to be in her 20s, was detained at the couple's rented home near the scene of the shooting. 'The suspect has been remanded for seven days from today until July 12 for further investigation,' he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda police headquarters. He said a pistol was also seized during a search of the residence. Yesterday, the police shot dead another man believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies, just a day after two other suspects were killed in a shootout in Jitra. The 34-year-old suspect was fatally shot during a similar shootout with police at 7.50 pm in Bandar Puteri Jaya, according to acting director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department. The police believe the suspect was also a key member of a criminal group, comprising over a dozen members, responsible for a string of armed robberies, gangsterism and drug trafficking dating back to 2022, which caused losses estimated at nearly RM6 million. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Senior citizen arrested over dog-dragging incident
Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect was picked up by police from his home in Bandar Puteri Jaya at 8pm yesterday. SUNGAI PETANI : An 82-year-old man has been arrested to assist in an investigation into a viral incident in which a dog was dragged behind a motorcycle in Bandar Puteri Jaya near here. Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the man was picked up from his home in Bandar Puteri Jaya at 8pm yesterday. 'Police seized a red Honda EX5 motorcycle, a set of keys and road tax, and a white helmet. 'The man was brought to the Kuala Muda police headquarters for further investigation. Checks revealed that he has no criminal record,' Hanyan said in a statement today. He said the elderly man was found to be suffering from dementia and memory loss, but admitted to dragging his pet dog although he could not recall why. 'Further investigations are ongoing under Section 428 of the Penal Code, and the dog will be handed over to the veterinary department once medical treatment is completed,' he said. In the video which has been circulating online, the dog could be seen tied to the back of a moving motorcycle, being dragged along on the road. Bystanders eventually stopped the rider and intervened.
