The court of sessions judge Ved Parkash Sirohi has sentenced Kuldeep Singh, alias Soni, 25, and Sulkhan Singh, 28, both residents of Kalka's Karanpur village, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a robbery case. The Pinjore police station had initially registered a case against the duo on February 19, 2022, under Sections 379-A, 341, 397, 411, 506, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court ultimately convicted them under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 392 (robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempts to cause death or grievous hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation), read with Section 34 (common intention) of the IPC. According to the prosecution, the two convicts illegally obstructed complainant Padma Tsewang and his friends. They then robbed Tsewang's mobile phone and forcibly transferred ₹1,400 from his Google Pay account to Kuldeep Singh's mobile phone at knifepoint, putting him in fear of instant death. The court handed down a seven-year jail term to both men under Section 397 read with Section 34 IPC, and a five-year jail term under Section 392 IPC. They were also sentenced under other relevant sections and directed to pay a fine of ₹5,000 each.

Panchkula : The district court Friday sentenced two men to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for robbing a few people of cash and an iPhone at knifepoint three years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the convicts. The convicts, Kuldeep Singh alias Soni and Sulkhan, are from Karanpur village in Kalka here. The complainant, Padma Tsewang, was staying on rent at Adarsh Nagar in Mohali's Naya Gaon. He came from Nubra in Leh-Ladakh. In his complaint to police on April 17, 2022, Padma said he, along with his friends and his sister, were going towards Pinjore from Naya Gaon in his car when two persons on a bike blocked their way at a place beyond Prempura near Khera village. The bike bore a Haryana registration number (HR49H-3294). Padma said he came out of the car and asked the two bike-borne men as to why they blocked their car. To this, they brandished a knife, prompting his friends in the car to also step out. Fear gripped all of them, and the assailants snatched Padma's mobile phone and demanded the password for his Google Pay account at knifepoint. Out of fear, the complainant gave away the password, and the assailants transferred Rs 1,400 from his account to theirs after obtaining the UPI PIN from him. They threatened to kill them if they reported the incident to anyone before speeding away from the scene. Later, they reported the matter to Pinjore police, which registered a case against unidentified persons. Subsequently, police arrested both accused and recovered the snatched mobile phone from their possession. Mohali: Senior constable, accomplice arrested for corruption

The district police have arrested a senior constable and his accomplice for accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in lieu of settling a case. Sharing details, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans on Wednesday informed that senior constable Kuldeep Singh, presently posted at the Kharar City police station, and his accomplice Sangeeta Baweja, a resident of Nayagaon, have been booked for a bribery incident that occurred in July 2024. At that time, complainant ASI Harish had reported a fraud of ₹6,70,000, detailing that his servant, Joseph Alexander, had allegedly stolen his SIM card linked to his bank account and misappropriated the funds. Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered at the Nayagon police station against Alexander. However, prior to the registration of the FIR, Kuldeep Singh, then posted as MHC at the Nayagaon police station, had demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹20,000 from ASI Harish— ₹10,000 in cash and ₹10,000 via UPI. The online transaction was made to the account of his accomplice, Baweja, on Singh's instructions, in exchange for facilitating the case settlement. Both accused have been booked under Sections 7 and 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, SSP Hans confirmed.

Six trainee recruit constables of Punjab police relieved from training for failing dope test

CHANDIGARH: Six trainee recruit constables of Punjab Police who tested positive for drug consumption at the Punjab Police Recruit Training Centre at Jahankhelan in Hoshiarpur were relieved from the basic training with immediate effect. The incident has prompted many to question the impact of the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' program started by the AAP-led Punjab government to eradicate drug menace from state. Sources said that the trainee recruits reportedly exhibited suspicious behavior and that it was decided to conduct their dope tests. They trainees were tested on May 21 at the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur. Of the six trainees relieved from training, three were from Patiala district, two from Tarn Taran, and one from Ludhiana. They were all from the same batch, No. 270. "All six have been sent back to their respective districts and struck off from the training program," said an official on condition of anonymity. The official letter issued by Camp Adjutant (Outdoor) Kuldeep Singh of Punjab Police Recruit Training Centre at Jahankhelan in Hoshiarpur on May 24, stated that the behaviour of the trainees indicated possible use of odourless intoxicants thus prompting the decision to subject them to a drug screening. The letter was addressed to Ludhiana Police Commissioner and senior police officials of Tarn Taran and Patiala.
