CM to preside over state-level Independence Day function at Sarkaghat
1 2 Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will preside over the state-level Independence Day function on Friday at Sarkaghat in Mandi district which has been badly affected by the monsoon disaster this year. The district-level Independence Day functions will be presided over by legislative assembly speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at Una, deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri at Shimla, and health and family welfare minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) at Solan. Agriculture minister Chander Kumar will preside at Dharamshala in Kangra district, and industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan will be at Chamba. Revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi will be the chief guest of the Independence Day function at Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district, education minister Rohit Thakur at Bilaspur, and rural development minister Anirudh Singh at Hamirpur. PWD minister Vikramaditya Singh will be at Nahan in Sirmaur district, town and country planning minister Rajesh Dharmani at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district, and ayush minister Yadvinder Goma at Kullu. Speakers of Himachal, Odisha, Sikkim and Rajasthan offer prayers at Ujjain' Mahakaal temple
Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 15 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Sikkim Assembly Speaker Mingma Narbu Sherpa and Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani offered prayers at Ujjain's Mahakaal Temple. Himachal Pradesh assembly speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, speaking to ANI, mentioned that he has prayed for the peace of the country. 'I am happy that I got the opportunity to get darshan of Shri Mahakaal. I have prayed for goodwill, love and peace for our country. I also wish that equality should reside in our country,' said Pathania. The speakers earlier attended the meeting of the 'Committee of Presiding Officers to Review the Committee System' held at the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The committee, chaired by MP Assembly Speaker Narendra Tomar, includes Speakers from seven states--Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim. Earlier, Devotees in huge numbers reached for the 84 Mahadev Yatra in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh for the first Monday of the holy month of Shraavan (Sawan). It is believed that the Shravan month is the most beloved month of Lord Shiva. Worshipping Shiva in this month gives relief from all troubles. Every Monday of this month is considered auspicious and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Tuesdays are observed in honour of Goddess Parvati, the divine consort of Shiva. Several devotees observe strict fasts, abstaining from grains and consuming only fruits, milk, and specific food permitted during fasting. Rituals are performed with great devotion both at home and in temples. Devotees offer prayers to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during this period. The chanting of Shiva mantras, singing bhajans (devotional songs), and performing Rudrabhishek (ceremonial bathing of Shiva Lingam with holy substances) are standard practices observed with fervour across households and temples during the 'Sawan' month. Shravan (or Sawan) holds immense significance in Hindu mythology. This month, devotees perform devotional bhajans and conduct Rudrabhishek, a ceremonial bathing of the Shiva Lingam, accompanied by offerings of milk, honey, and curd. Earlier on Friday, devotees flocked to the Ujjain's Mahalaleshwar temple to offer prayers on the first day of the 'Sawan' month. The sacred Bhasma Aarti was performed at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain on the first day of the 'Sawan' month. This year, Sawan began on July 11 and will conclude on August 9. It is the fifth month if the Hindu lunar calendar and is considered on of the holiest periods of Shiva devotees. (ANI)

Himachal Pradesh Speaker invites CM to CPA India Region Zone-II annual conference in Dharamshala
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 20 (ANI): Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, has extended a formal invitation to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to grace the inaugural ceremony of the Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, Zone-II, being held from June 30 to 1 July at Tapovan, Dharamshala. Pathania informed that eminent delegates representing Zone-II, which includes Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, will participate in the conference. Among the attendees will be the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Speakers and Deputy Speakers of State Legislative Assemblies, Leaders of the Opposition, Chief Whips, and MLAs from Member States. In addition, Speakers from the States of Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana have been invited as special guests. The Speaker said that the conference aims to promote meaningful dialogue on legislative procedures, democratic governance, and regional cooperation. He emphasized that the platform will facilitate the exchange of best practices and play a vital role in strengthening parliamentary institutions across the country. Earlier on Thursday, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed to establish the dairy cooperative societies across the state adding that six new milk plants will be set up in the state. According to an official release, Chief Minister highlighted that currently 910 panchayats, dairy cooperative societies are functional and the department should work hard to increase the number of functional societies. To boost the dairy production these societies could play a crucial role in providing employment and self employment opportunities to the youth in the dairy sector, it added. Reviewing the work progress of Dagwar Milk processing plant in Kangra district, the CM directed to constitute a committee to monitor the same and get it expedited. The Chief Minister said 'this plant was expected to be completed by June, 2026 benefitting the farmers of Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Chamba districts.' 'The present State Government was making earnest efforts to strengthen the rural economy. We want to enhance the income of the farmers associated with the dairy sector, therefore, the State Government has raised the MSP to Rs 51 per litre for cow milk and Rs 61 per litre for buffalo milk', Sukhu added. Political parties divided on 'One Nation, One Election'; people support the idea: BJP's Jai Ram Thakur
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 20 (ANI): The Joint Committee on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024, currently on a nationwide consultation tour, visited Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday as part of its outreach to gather state-level feedback on the One Nation, One Election proposal. While political parties remain divided, ruling and opposition voices in Himachal shared their perspectives with the committee. The delegation, chaired by senior BJP MP PP Chaudhary, includes Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur. They were joined by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy CM, and Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, who engaged in a detailed discussion with the committee before addressing the media. The speaker of the HP Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, said that while one nation, one election is the need of the hour, the basic structure of the constitution must not be altered. 'Basic structure of the Constitution must not be altered', he said. Himachal Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania offered a cautiously analytical viewpoint, stressing that while the concept of simultaneous elections is not new, implementing it now would require serious constitutional introspection. 'The Constitution already provides for five-year terms for both Parliament and State Legislatures. But mid-term elections and breakdowns in governance have disrupted that structure. This committee is exploring whether we can return to that stability,' said Pathania. He pointed out that the 1952 elections were held simultaneously across India, and the current proposal is essentially a restoration attempt. However, he raised key constitutional concerns. 'Can an amendment curtail the tenure of a democratically elected Assembly, as proposed? If we can shorten the term, can we also extend it? Would this violate the basic structure of the Constitution?' He questioned. He stressed that while the reform could bring stability, it must not tamper with foundational constitutional principles. 'Mid-term elections, whether in Parliament, Assemblies or municipal bodies, consume time and resources. But any new system must remain in harmony with the Constitution's fundamentals,' he added. Addressing reporters after the meeting, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur welcomed the proposed legislation, stating that the people of India overwhelmingly support simultaneous elections. 'People want elections held together', said Jai Ram Thakur. 'The One Nation, One Election bill is a bold and much-needed move. It may spark differing opinions among parties, but the public sentiment is clear--they want elections to happen together, in states and at the national level, so that governments can focus on governance without constant poll disruptions,' Thakur added. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for advancing a difficult but necessary reform. 'It is the nature of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take on complex, bold initiatives that others only talk about. No one had the courage to take this forward until now. I congratulate the PM for bringing this bill forward,' he said. He expressed confidence that the bill, currently with the Joint Committee, will be enacted soon. 'This is not just the desire of the Centre, but also the sentiment of Himachal Pradesh. Our party fully supports the bill. We believe it should be implemented as soon as possible.' He added. Addressing concerns over whether elections for Parliament and state Assemblies could always align exactly, he acknowledged some challenges. 'Yes, there are exceptional situations where terms won't align perfectly. However, to achieve something big, some compromises are needed. Some Assemblies may have to lose a few months of tenure, and that's being deliberated,' he added. He also recommended a more uniform legislative structure across states. 'I also suggested that either all states should have Legislative Councils or none at all. This inconsistency should be addressed,' he added, noting that the committee took this recommendation seriously. Thakur criticised the opposition for opposing the bill purely from a party-interest perspective. 'We must now think about the nation's interest, not just party advantage. Repeated elections waste time and public money. We must welcome this reform,' he said. Jai Ram Thakur thanked the Union Government for Rs 2,006 crore in disaster relief to Himachal Pradesh. Thakur expressed gratitude to the Union Government for releasing Rs 2006.40 crore under disaster relief and restoration efforts following the devastating floods in 2023. 'Earlier, some claimed that the Centre had not helped Himachal after the floods. But now the state has received around Rs 2,000 crore from NDRF and SDRF. I thank Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi for granting Rs 2,006 crore, which includes Rs 533 crore already released and the rest to come,' he said. He called out the Congress government for failing to ensure proper distribution of aid. 'Despite this substantial help, eligible beneficiaries still haven't received the full benefits. This raises serious questions. The aid should reach the right people, not just a few,' Thakur said. 'Congress's habit is to show ingratitude. Even when help arrives, they downplay it or shift the goalposts,' he said. Thakur, on the controversy over the Agriculture minister's resignation rumours, said that if a senior minister has to reach this state, it makes us understand the bad state of the government. On the social media post by Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar's son, which claimed that the minister will be resigning. 'This only shows the internal state of Congress. If even their senior-most leader is treated this way, imagine how the government is being run.' He said. Thakur also clarified and responded to criticism that his comments on the SDM in Paonta Sahib were communal. 'I did not say anything targeting any religion or institution. Some people are just trying to drag my name unnecessarily. I spoke responsibly, and those chanting slogans should also maintain dignity,' he said. (ANI)

Himachal Pradesh deserves a separate regiment in Indian Armed Forces: HP Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 17 (ANI): The speaker of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, has advocated a separate regiment in the Indian Armed Forces. 'The people of Himachal Pradesh have made immense contributions to India's military efforts. It's time our state had its regiment in the Indian Armed Forces,' said Kuldeep Singh Pathania, while speaking with ANI in Shimla on Saturday. Pathania was speaking following the inauguration of a blood donation camp organised at the Himachal Pradesh Assembly complex by the Sports and Cultural Association. Praising the patriotic spirit and service ethos of the people of Himachal Pradesh, Pathania reiterated the long-standing demand for the formation of a separate regiment in the Indian Armed Forces exclusively for Himachali soldiers. 'Himachal Pradesh's Legacy of gallantry must be recognised with a dedicated regiment' Citing the historical and continued contributions of Himachali soldiers, Pathania said that the soldiers from Himachal Pradesh have proved in war and tough times in the Indian armed forces. 'Himachal Pradesh has always stood at the forefront during times of war and national crisis. Our soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice and won numerous gallantry awards from the Param Vir Chakra to the Vir Chakra and the Kirti Chakra. It is only fitting that the Indian Armed Forces establish a special regiment representing Himachal Pradesh.' He said. Pathania emphasised that soldiers from the hill state have consistently played a vital role, whether it was the 1962 war, the 1972 war, the Kargil conflict, or modern-day operations like Sindhur. He pointed out that Himachal is known as Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), but it is also the land of valiant warriors who have tirelessly served the country. Acknowledging Operation Sindhur Pathania said that it was a testament to India's military prowess. In a detailed statement, Speaker Pathania lauded Operation Sindoor, a recent military success by Indian forces, calling it a clear demonstration of India's growing technological and strategic capabilities. 'Operation Sindoor has sent a strong message to the world's major military powers. Even countries like the United States, known for their advanced arsenal and military technology, have been effectively matched by India's armed forces. In fact, our capabilities are not just comparable but in many ways ahead,' said Pathania. 'The success of Operation Sindoor is a matter of pride for the entire nation, and especially for us in Himachal Pradesh. A brave soldier from my very own Assembly constituency laid down his life during this operation. His sacrifice is a reminder of the selfless service Himachali youth continue to render to the nation.' He added. Earlier in the day, Speaker Pathania inaugurated a blood donation camp on the Assembly premises, expressing his gratitude to the organisers and participants. 'I am happy that the Bharat Evam Cultural Association has organised this blood donation camp at the Assembly premises. Almost all our staff members have participated. Blood donation is the greatest form of service; it saves lives and is a deeply noble act,' he said. Pathania congratulated all the officers, employees, and organisational members who came forward for the cause. 'I hope this spirit of service continues. Through such acts, we serve society in a meaningful way.' Said Pathania. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania's strong advocacy for the Himachal Regiment reflects a broader sentiment in the state that its decades of military contribution deserve distinct recognition.
