Nashik: The general body of (NMC) has given nod for construction of three new bridges on Godavari river and its has also approved strengthening of existing Gadge Maharaj bridge, along with construction of a down ramp at a total cost of Rs 93 new bridges have been proposed in view of the upcoming Kumbh Mela slated to be held in 2026-28. Accordingly, the NMC administration started the project to boost the construction of new bridges on Godavari and its tributaries in the city to ease traffic congestion during the upcoming Kumbh Mela.A new bridge would be constructed on Godavari river near the sewage treatment plant (STP) of NMC at Tapovan at a cost of Rs 35 crore. Another would be constructed on Nandini river near Milindnagar in Nashik West division of the civic body at a cost of Rs 19 crore. The third bridge would be constructed on Waldevi river near Wadner Dumala on Nashik Road division of the city at a cost of Rs 11 general body of NMC also gave its approval for strengthening and widening of the existing Gadge Maharaj bridge near Ramkund on Godavari river at a cost of Rs11.35 crore. Apart from this, a down ramp would be constructed for Gadge Maharaj bridge to be used by sadhus during the Kumbh administrator Manisha Khatri gave approval to all the proposals related to new bridges and related works during the GB meeting held on Wednesday.

Maha Metro to find a new Metro variant for Nashik city

Nashik: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) has started the process to find a new variant of Metro for Nashik city, instead of the Neo Metro project that was proposed earlier by the govt. As per the instructions of the Centre, Maha Metro has also decided to revise the previous detailed project report (DPR) of the Neo Metro, based on the new variant that is to be decided following the mobility survey of the city. A senior Maha Metro official told TOI that they are studying the alternative for 'Neo Metro' project as per instructions from the Centre. "We are also studying the transport system of other overseas cities to find the variant of the Metro that will suit Nashik city." There has been a change in the traffic pattern of the city in the last six to seven years, particularly after the Nashik airport became operational. "We are also noting the details about mobility survey to revise the previous DPR of the project. We will soon finalise the new transport model or a Metro variant for Nashik city and approach the Centre," said the official. Tarun Kapoor, an advisor to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a Kumbh Mela-related meeting held on April 18 through VC, instructed the Maha Metro to study the public transport system in Mexico, Abu Dhabi, and other overseas cities to find an alternative for the Neo Metro project for Nashik city. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the Neo Metro project for Nashik city while presenting the budget for the financial year 2021-22, makinga provision of Rs 2,092 crore for the same. Maha Metro had proposed the rubber-tyred Neo Metro project with AC electric coaches. The two elevated corridors with a total length of 32 km were supposed to be constructed under the project. But the project did not receive the approval of the Union cabinet.
