From The Hindu, August 11, 1925: Indian emigration to Mauritius
Simla, Aug, 10: The report of Mr. Kunwar Maharaj Singh, who was deputed to Mauritius to inquire into the question of the emigration of Indians, has been issued.
Mr. Kunwar Maharaj Singh holds that the further emigration of unskilled labourers from India to Mauritius is unnecessary and undesirable. He urges the following reforms in the interests of the Indians in Mauritius: (1) The better housing of labourers, (2) the employment of a larger number of Indian medical men in the estate hospitals and dispensaries, (3) the grant of rations during an estate labourer's illness to the members of his family all, (4) the prohibition of the employment of children in factories.
