By Christine Susan Shine KUWAIT: The Canadian Embassy in Kuwait commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Kuwait with a spirited ice hockey match on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between the two nations. Held in collaboration with the Kuwait Winter Games Club, the friendly game between the Canadian Mooseheads and the Kuwait Stars drew a lively crowd of families, hockey fans, and dignitaries. Spectators of all ages filled the stands, waving Canadian and Kuwaiti flags and cheering for their teams in a vibrant display of camaraderie. Canadian Ambassador Aliya Mawani, speaking at the event, underscored the cultural significance of the sport. 'Ice hockey is a core part of Canadian identity, and it's inspiring to see how it's been embraced here in Kuwait, bringing together players from all over the world,' she said in her opening remarks. The match was part of a broader, year-long celebration of Canada-Kuwait ties, with events throughout 2025 showcasing shared values through art, music, business, and education. Long-time Canadian resident in Kuwait, Debra Clark, who has lived in the country for 18 years, reflected on the significance of the moment. 'You don't often get to watch your home team play live when you're abroad. This event brought the Canadian community together in such a meaningful way,' she said. Kuwaiti attendee Sabeekah Al-Bahar said she was drawn to the event to celebrate the long-standing friendship between the two countries. 'I was amazed by the high level of skill and challenge on the ice. Both teams were incredibly professional—it was such a joy to watch,' she said. The stadium echoed with energy as fans donned team jerseys and celebrated the occasion with cheers and chants. Among them was Walid Elawadly, a Canadian living in Kuwait, who attended with his family. 'It brings me so much joy to see Kuwait's team playing so well. This was a match we were really looking forward to, and it didn't disappoint,' he said. KUWAIT, April 20, (KUNA): Kuwait's national ice hockey team secured a bronze medal at the Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV in Yerevan, Armenia, on Saturday, marking another milestone in their ongoing achievements, said Fahid Al-Ajmi, president of the Kuwait Winter Games Club, on Sunday. In a statement to KUNA following the team's arrival back home, Al-Ajmi highlighted that Kuwait came close to clinching the title on several occasions. He expressed the team's focus on the upcoming tournament in the third division. Al-Ajmi praised the players for their strong performance throughout the championship, attributing their success to the hard work put in during training camps and the consistent support from the Public Authority for Sport. He reassured that the club would continue to support the players to help them elevate their performance, particularly emphasizing the excellence of the younger athletes. Kuwait's ice hockey team ready for World Cup IV after successful UAE camp

ABU DHABI, April 5, (KUNA): President of the Kuwait Winter Games Club, Fehaid Al-Ajmi, affirmed that the Kuwaiti national ice hockey team is fully prepared to compete strongly in World Cup IV, set to be held in Armenia from April 13 to 19. In a statement to KUNA during the team's training camp in Al-Ain, UAE, Al-Ajmi said that six international teams will participate in the tournament, which is organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). He emphasized that the Kuwaiti players are in excellent physical condition and full of enthusiasm as they aim for promotion to Division III of the global tournament in the next edition. Kuwait will kick off its World Cup campaign against Uzbekistan, followed by matches against Indonesia, host nation Armenia, Malaysia, and Iran. Al-Ajmi praised the players' dedication and high-level performance during the camp, also extending his gratitude to Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi and the Public Authority for Sports for their unwavering support. He also expressed sincere appreciation to the UAE Hockey Association for its warm hospitality and the excellent facilities provided during the team's training stay in Al-Ain. As part of its preparation, the Kuwaiti team recently played a friendly match against UAE champions Theebs, which ended in a thrilling 5-5 draw. Additional matches are scheduled in the coming days against two more UAE teams, ahead of the training camp's conclusion on April 11.
