Land Rover's Darkest Defender Gets 626 HP- Still Not Enough To Beat Urus SE?
Land Rover has put its design hat on to give the Defender Octa a sinister look; the result, a new all-black edition called the Octa Black. It comes a year after the introduction of the Defender Octa in the global market. To differentiate it from all the other iterations, the brand has added up to 30 exteriors finished in satin or gloss black. The introduction of this version is in sync with the trend that we have seen in the Indian market as well, with the manufacturers introducing all-black versions of their models. To achieve the all-black look, the Defender Octa all-black comes with a Narvik Black paint, which the brand claims is the "truest black in the Defender paint palette". Though the SUV is offered with a gloss finish, consumers can opt for an optional matte protective film. Taking a closer look, the skid plates get a satin black powder coating. Similar treatment has been given to recovery hooks and a four-tailpipe exhaust system, but with a gloss finish. Adding to its quirks, the brand has given the SUV a black grille and dark silver "Defender" badge. The consumers can also get the options of 20 or 22-inch wheels with a gloss black finish to go with the overall theme. These wheels have centre caps as well as a braking system with black callipers. Step on the inside, and the dark colours continue to mark their presence in the details. This includes a satin black powder-coated cross-bar beam. Fitting into the theme are black switchgear and a black steering wheel. There is an option of a "chopped carbon fibre" finish. This continues to the ebony semi-aniline leather seats with Kvadrat accents. Complementing all of this are perforations and stitch accents on the backrests. The powertrain details of this version are the same as the standard Octa. It seeks power from a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 producing 626 hp of power and 749 Nm of torque. This power can be used to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The SUV is slower than the Lamborghini Urus SE, which comes with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a hybrid system that produces 789 hp and 950 Nm. This power can be used to go from 0-100 kmph in 3.4 seconds while the top speed is 312 kmph.
