Trichy: Kwik eCabs, a city-based startup, has introduced an all-electric taxi service.
Starting with five electric cars with a range of 250km each when fully charged, the online transport aggregator platform has fixed the cost of a ride up to 8km at Rs 150.
The startup said the fare is the lowest among existing app-based transport aggregators.
The apps will only allow digital payment from users. The company has also introduced dashcam in all cars as a safety feature.
Rathnakumar, managing director of Ramyas Hotels flagged off the e-cars on Friday. "The demand for cabs has been increasing in Trichy and we will gradually increase our fleet strength to 100 electric cars within the next three years.
Rental option from one hour to eight hours and outstation travel option are available too," Ajay Jayaraj, CEO of Kwik eCabs and Jayaraj Group, said.
The startup said that cancellation fee, and surge fee during peak hours will not be collected from the users. For charging needs, the startup has developed a charging station at Panjapur, and one more charging point is likely to be set up within the core city area.
