Kyle Hamilton offers high praise for two of the Ravens' young but talented defensive backs

Kyle Hamilton sees something special in two of his Ravens teammates. Here's a confession. Though there were plenty of talented players hanging out in the green room during the 2022 NFL Draft, it was apparent early that Kyle Hamilton was the guy the Baltimore Ravens needed to select. As things began to unfold and we neared Eric DeCosta and company being placed on the clock, there was only one potential roadblock. What might the Philadelphia Eagles do one slot ahead of the Ravens at 13? It felt like Philly might go the way of taking Hamilton or interior defender Jordan Davis. The latter felt like more of a Howie Roseman selection. The Eagles never take safeties in Round 1, seemingly. The guess was correct. Philadelphia scribbled Davis's name on a draft card, leaving the door open for Baltimore to get their guy. He was the right choice. Hamilton was added with the 14th selection. They landed Tyler Linderbaum in the first round as well. Tyler Smith was a sure thing at offensive tackle, but it seemed feasible to ignore him. Jahan Dotson was the exciting young shifty wide receiver, or that's what we thought at the time. Trent McDuffie was an exciting cornerback, but knowing what we know now, Hamilton was the perfect choice. Just look at how things have transpired since his arrival. Only three players selected before Hamilton have been voted onto Pro Bowl rosters: Aidan Hutchinson, Derek Stingley, and Sauce Gardner. They were taken second, third, and fourth overall, respectively. Davis has yet to make a Pro Bowl. Hamilton has been named a Pro Bowler twice (2023, 2024). He was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2023 and a Second-Team All-Pro in 2024. Don't look now, but he's now one of the veteran leaders and one of the secondary's elder statesmen. Kyle Hamilton offers elite praise to two of his fellow stars in the Ravens' secondary The Ravens' secondary is expected to take off in 2025. That should be the expectation. Since taking Hamilton in 2022, Baltimore has selected two other defensive backs in the two drafts since then. Zay Flowers was taken 22nd in 2023. Nate Wiggins was taken 30th in 2024. Malaki Starks was the prize at 27 this past April. Kyle Hamilton addressed the Baltimore media after a recent Ravens practice session. He was very complimentary of his teammates in Chuck Pagano's secondary. '(Starks) does amazing stuff without even trying, and he probably doesn't even know that he's doing it. I think he knows the playbook more than I did (when I first entered the league). He's confident out there. He's talking. He's just so willing to learn and be a sponge, and it's very admirable for somebody his age.' That's high praise for the rookie. 'I think he is going to be one of the best in the league. He's competing at a high level. Super excited to see what he does in year two, and I think he's probably gonna have one of the bigger jumps from last year to this year than anybody on the team.' This is going to be fun. Chuck Pagano has come home with unfinished business on his mind. He, Zachary Orr, and John Harbaugh have the talent to get to football's biggest game and win it all. Don't forget this secondary also features All-Pro Marlon Humphrey and newly acquired Jaire Alexander. There are no concerns about the Ravens' offense. Now, this team has the defensive firepower to be equally as frightening. It's hard to avoid the temptation to be excited about a Ravens team that could potentially be a juggernaut all season long in a very competitive American Football Conference.

NFL All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton has high praise for Georgia rookie

The 2025 NFL season is just around the corner and training camp is here, Teams are realizing what they have in their rookies. One rookie that has been standing out is Baltimore Ravens rookie Malaki Starks. His teammate All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton had some very encouraging words for the rookie and can bring some excitement to fans. "He's super-talented. I honestly think he's miles ahead of where I was at that point," Hamilton said. "Once it all clicks for him, he's going to be one of the best in the league." Starks played three seasons for the Georgia Bulldogs, recording 197 total tackles, 17 pass deflections, and six interceptions in his collegiate career. In the 2024 season, he had 77 total tackles, four for loss, and one interception. He was an All-American in 2023. The Ravens have a secondary of Marlon Humphrey, Jaire Alexander, Nate Wiggins, Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks, which on paper seems like the best secondary in the league in terms of talent. However, last season the Ravens allowed the second-most passing yards in the NFL, so there's a reason why Baltimore invested a first-round pick in Starks. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads!

Baltimore Ravens first-round draft pick Malaki Starks reflects as training camp gets underway

Baltimore Ravens first-round draft pick Malaki Starks is only a few training camp practices into his NFL career, but the rookie has already made an impression on his coaches and teammates. He came in with high expectations, and he is working to earn respect in training camp. Starks, the 27th overall pick in the NFL draft, has three training camp practices under his belt, but he is already turning heads. "Just because I was a first-rounder doesn't mean my spot is guaranteed," Starks said. Baltimore Head Coach John Harbaugh shared his first impression of the rookie. "So far, he is playing at a really high level," Harbaugh said. "He has passed every test, but there are more tests to come." Starks is expected to be an immediate contributor on a defense that was one of the best in the league last season. As he continues to adjust to the NFL, he is leaning on veterans like Kyle Hamilton to show him the way. "He's so smart," Starks said. "You think you know football until you get around people who know football, then you realize you don't know that much about football. Being able to learn from him, I think, has been huge." Starks' eagerness to learn stands out to Hamilton, who said Starks is miles ahead of where he was at this point as a rookie. "I think he knows the playbook more than I did. He's confident out there," Hamilton said. "He's talking, and he's just so willing to learn and be a sponge. It's very admirable for somebody his age." As Starks continues to grow through training camp and adjusts to the defensive system, he is most comfortable learning, staying curious and asking questions. "There's a lot of expectations. There's a lot of standards that come with that, but I've got to prove myself worthy of it and earn the respect of my teammates and go out there day in and day out and give it my best," Starks said.

Kyle Hamilton joins a unique group of elite young NFL talent

Kyle Hamilton rightfully takes his place on the NFL's All-Under-25 Team of young stars Name a better defender playing the safety position than Baltimore Ravens star Kyle Hamilton. Can't you do it? At best, the ceiling is naming someone just as good because, as seasons pass, it becomes increasingly complex to name someone who is 'better'. Taken 14th overall during the 2022 NFL Draft, Hamilton has already proven to be a wise investment by Eric DeCosta and company. Hamilton was named to the Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie Team in 2022. He has been named to consecutive Pro Bowls (2023, 2024). He was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2023 and a Second-Team All-Pro last season. As good as he is, he's still only 24 years old, meaning he still has a lot of room to grow. The secret has long been out about his brilliance, though, and a recent write-up on the official NFL site only confirms that. Kyle Hamilton is named as part of a unique NFL all-star team As everyone in the media attempted to bridge the close of minicamp with another training camp, everyone pulled out all of the tricks in terms of content. We've read early mock drafts until we're blue in the face. We've seen so many rankings that we're surprised there are still angles worth tapping into. And now we turn the page to the preseason under-25 teams. Around the NFL writer Nick Shook recently offered his 2025 All-Under-25 Team. One of Baltimore's own was mentioned. Take a wild guess about who it was. "With a first-team All-Pro selection, two Pro Bowl nods and votes for Defensive Player of the Year going his way in 2024, Hamilton has undoubtedly established a reputation as a game-changing safety. He had just one pick on 55 targets last season, but he remains an active participant in Baltimore's defense, getting more involved in the run game and finishing fifth in run stops (28) among safeties. He posted the most well-rounded assortment of primary defensive PFF grades of any safety in the NFL and finished with the second highest overall defensive grade at the position, behind only Joseph. Hamilton is a stud and will be a cornerstone in Baltimore for many, many years to come." That's the take on Hamilton. It's one of the few NFL pundits would debate. He joins a secondary that also includes Brian Branch (Detroit Lions), Kerby Joseph (Lions), Trent McDuffie (Kansas City Chiefs), and Derek Stingley Jr. (Houston Texans). As good as that looks on paper, we'll stick with what Baltimore brings to the table: Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey, Jaire Alexander, Malaki Starks, and Mr. Hamilton. Starks is taking his cues from his partner at safety. Meanwhile, Wiggins is seen as a breakout candidate. Humphrey is the Pro Bowler. With Chuck Pagano at the helm, this could be a very special season for the Baltimore Ravens' secondary.
