Kym Marsh is seen departing the Coronation Street studios following fan speculation she is returning to show
Kym Marsh was seen leaving the Coronation Street studios in Manchester on Wednesday following fan speculation she might return to the show. The actress, 48, cut a casual figure in a grey hoodie and black leggings as she departed the building alongside a male pal. The former Hear'Say star wrapped up in a black padded coat and completed her outfit with a pair of white trainers. Kym played Michelle Connor on Coronation Street from 2006 to 2019, winning the British Soap Award for Best Newcomcer for the role. However, a source close to the show told us Kym has no plans to return to the soap for the time being. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The actress, 48, cut a casual figure in a grey hoodie and black leggings as she departed the building alongside a male pal Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, Kym fuelled rumours she could return to Coronation Street soon, saying she was open to a return. She said: 'I'd never say never to going back as I absolutely adore Coronation Street and I had some of my best years there. 'I learned so much on that show and I made so many friends. But I left to kind of pursue other projects and I'm still in the middle of doing that, but, maybe one day!' Michelle left the Cobbles in 2019 after discovering that her fiancé, Robert Preston, had fathered a child with Vicky Jefferies. She teamed up with Vicky to scam Robert out of the Bistro, a business they co-owned and then sold it to a mystery buyer, only to be horrified when she learned the new owner was Ray Crosby, a sleazy businessman who had previously made unwanted advances toward her. Devastated and furious, Michelle trashed the Bistro in a fit of rage before being stopped by Carla Connor. After saying emotional goodbyes to her family, including her sons Ryan and Ali, and warning them about Ray, Michelle left Weatherfield in a taxi to start a new life in Ireland with her parents. It comes after Coronation Street and Emmerdale's boss quit after 27 years with ITV. The broadcaster announced this month that Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North John Whiston is stepping down from his role at the end of the month to enjoy his retirement. With 40 years in the television industry and 27 with the channel, he is going to be missed after working on programmes such as The Chase, Vera and Heartbeat, and currently oversees the soaps. Iain MacLeod and Matt Cleary will take over the role from Jon. Announcing the news, John said: 'I've always said I've got the best job in TV. I used to say it privately in case ITV stopped paying me. 'It has been nothing short of an honour, as well as a blast, to work on the soaps this last decade or so. 'We've had joy, we've had fun and we've had seasons in the sun. 'We've also had misery and mayhem. We've had motorway crashes, tram crashes and floods. 'We've had stories which have squeezed your heart till tears came out of your eyes. 'And we've covered pretty much anything and everything that people have to face in their own lives and we've done that with care and humanity. 'And all that is down to the 600 or so people - the writers, crew, cast and editorial – who have kept the show on air and at an incredible quality day in day out. 'And it's them who have made my job ridiculously easy. Just don't tell ITV. 'With the appointment of Iain MacLeod as Creative Director and Matt Cleary as Chief Operating Officer and with fantastic stories in place for the move to five episodes a week next January, and a never-before-seen mega mash-up between the two shows, the future for our ITV Soaps is set fair. 'So it's the right time to leave and for me just to say thank you… to colleagues, to ITV and to our loyal, appreciative audience.' ain, who is currently Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, will be promoted to Creative Director. He will take on all the editorial responsibility for creating the two popular soaps.

Coronation Street fans convinced major star is returning
Coronation Street fans are convinced a major star is returning to the ITV soap after a cryptic social media post. Fans have taken to Twitter/X to share their theories that Michelle Connor may be set to return to the cobbles, after actress Kym Marsh teased her next project on Instagram. Michelle was last seen taking a taxi out of Weatherfield in 2019, after a dramatic 13 year tenure. After her arrival on the street in 2006, Michelle was part of some big storylines, including the discovery that her son had been swapped at birth, the deaths of both of her brothers, a stalking ordeal, and a shooting. Perhaps her most moving storyline saw her tragically lose son Ruairi after going into early labour. Ahead of her exit, Michelle was involved in a dramatic love triangle that saw her discover that fiancé Robert Preston was leading a double life, having got Vicky Jefferies pregnant. Following the discovery, Michelle and Vicky teamed up to get revenge on Robert by framing him for Vicky's murder. However, they scrapped their plan when Vicky went into labour while in hiding, with Michelle forced to deliver the baby. Following Robert's death a few days later, Michelle moved back to Ireland, where she has been ever since. Now though, fans are wondering if she may be set to come home to Coronation Street. Taking to Instagram, Kym recently revealed that she needed to take a holiday after seven weeks of performing in Abigail's Party at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. She went on to tease that her next adventure was set to begin, alongside eight smiley face emojis. Fans instantly jumped on the post, taking to Twitter/X to share their hopes for a Michelle Connor return. 'Michelle Connor return looms,' one fan wrote, while another said, 'michelle connor is coming home'. '8 emojis in kym's story – 8 letters in 'michelle' so basically michelle connor is coming back to corrie iktr,' a third theorised. 'Timeline being filled with 'Kym Marsh return?' I need it like i need air,' another wrote, alongside a picture of Michelle with best friend Carla Connor (Alison King) at her ill-fated wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price). Corrie fans previously picked up on a potential hint that Kym was returning to the cobbles, when make-up artist Gillian Walsh revealed that she'd had a special guest in her chair. The picture was posted just after it was announced that Kym had left Waterloo Road, which led fans to speculate that she may have been the special guest. Kym has previously said that she wouldn't rule out a return to the cobbles. 27 years welcoming strangers to live in their home
In the sunlit conservatory at the Garnetts' house, afternoon tea is in full flow. The four residents are recounting the good times - a trip to London for ABBA Voyage, Sunday lunches at the rugby club, and mishaps while decorating the Christmas tree. But this isn't your standard family of four. Over the last 27 years, Kym and Roger Garnett have welcomed 38 people into their quiet Banbury home under Oxfordshire County Council's Shared Lives scheme. It sees paid carers supporting adults with additional needs, like autism or learning disabilities, and helping them to gain independence in the setting of a family home. Those people include Sarah Hopwood - currently munching a bakewell tart - and Phil Law - cracking a somewhat cheesy joke. The pair of them have been calling the Garnetts' house home for at least a couple of years, and the experience has changed their lives. 'I was put where the council put me. I never had a home of my own,' Phil says of the time before he joined Shared Lives. 'Everywhere I went it was hard - ugly and not nice. Even with my parents, when they were alive, I was beaten up, smashed, destroyed. 'But now I live with Roger and Kym, they've turned my life around. And I'm grateful for them.' Sarah struggled with using public transport before she came to the Garnetts' two years ago, which meant she was isolated and dependent on getting lifts. Now she's not only able to get around on the bus (with some forward planning) but she's even landed herself a job. 'I've come on leaps and bounds since I've been here,' she says. 'I'm more independent and more confident now. 'Kym and Roger have been really supportive.' That support ranges from help with finances and appointments to everyday tasks like setting the washing machine. And though the Garnetts earn money through the Shared Lives scheme, they're not motivated by the wage. 'For us it's a way of life,' says Kym. 'I personally like to see them grow and be able to blend in with society. 'We had one client who used to be so shy, and we supported him from hiding away being isolated in a big farmhouse, to be able to actually sit and chat with our friends and our family when they come round.' 'You make friends with them as well,' adds Roger. 'One of the original ones still has contact with us.' And yet the couple know that for all the people they've helped, there are always more who would benefit from a home like theirs. 'We're always looking for more Shared Lives carers so if anyone's thinking "I could possibly do this", we'd love to hear from them,' says Sally Ellis from Oxfordshire County Council, who points interested people to the Shared Lives website.
