Los Angeles launches online relief tool to assist wildfire victims

(KTLA) – The city of Los Angeles has launched a new website aimed at helping victims of the deadly wildfires. According to a news release, the website LA Disaster Relief Navigator will ask visitors personalized questions 'to create individual Disaster Action Plans including government programs, insurance assistance, home damage remediation, temporary and permanent housing solutions, cash grants and valuable local community services.' California utility company says its equipment likely sparked Hurst Fire 'Angelenos are continuing to navigate grief and shock. My commitment is to do everything we can to get people the help they need as conveniently as possible,' Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement. In January, the state also unveiled its revamped fire relief website, making accessing available resources easier for Los Angeles County wildfire victims. The website has information on how victims can apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster relief, replace personal documents, find food banks, and safely return to their homes. LA Disaster Relief Navigator connects wildfire victims to resources online

A one-stop online Los Angeles Disaster Relief Navigator is up and running for people affected by recent wildfires. Mayor Karen Bass along with the Mayor's Fund launched the comprehensive site for personalized action plans, tailored to individual needs, based on fire zones. "This action plan is meant to provide you with valuable resources and tips to guide you through the wildfire recovery process. We've organized the information to make it easier for you to get the help you need," the LA Disaster Relief website reads. The online click-through process starts with, "What fire impacted you?" listing Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Hughes, Hurst and Other as options. Prompts continue to determine needs from housing and food to income loss and ID replacement. "Angelenos are continuing to navigate grief and shock. My commitment is to do everything we can to get people the help they need as conveniently as possible," Mayor Bass said. "The Disaster Recovery Centers have already helped more than 5,000 families get help in person, and now the LA Disaster Relief Navigator will help Angelenos get help wherever they are."

The city of Los Angeles has launched an online tool to help people affected by recent wildfires by simplifying the task of applying for assistance. The LA Disaster Relief Navigator is intended to highlight resources available to those whose lives were impacted by this year's wildfires. After filling out a simple questionnaire, residents are directed to local, state and federal programs for essential goods, disaster relief, insurance assistance, home damage repair and other services. 'Angelenos are continuing to navigate grief and shock. My commitment is to do everything we can to get people the help they need as conveniently as possible,' Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement announcing the website. Last month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened disaster recovery centers in Los Angeles County to provide in-person assistance to wildfire victims who had questions about their next steps. The online tool will provide some of that same information, which can can be difficult to find for anyone unable to visit a disaster recovery center in person. The navigator is a partnership between the Los Angeles Mayor's Fund, Better Angels and Imagine L.A. Support also comes from the Annenberg Foundation and the R&S Kayne Foundation. The Los Angeles Mayor's Fund is a nonprofit started under former Mayor Eric Garcetti. Better Angels bills itself as a nonprofit that aims to take a 'holistic approach to tackle the homelessness crisis' and Imagine L.A. is a nonprofit that describes itself as an 'organization dedicated to ending the cycle of family homelessness and chronic poverty.'
