2026 LA Marathon Moved to Accommodate Oscars
On Tuesday, Mayor Bass announced that the LA Marathon will be moved to accommodate the Oscars, as the events were originally scheduled on the same day. The 2026 Los Angeles Marathon, originally slated for March 15, will now take place later in the month. The scheduling conflict emerged earlier this year when the McCourt Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences independently announced the same date for their events. According to a joint statement reported by ABC News, Mayor Karen Bass stepped in to mediate, leading to an agreement that allows the Oscars to remain on March 15. The marathon will be moved to a new date that will be announced soon. With both events requiring extensive road closures, police presence, and live television coverage, holding them simultaneously would have been nearly impossible. The Dolby Theatre, home to the Oscars, sits along the marathon route, making it particularly challenging to clean and secure the area in time for a red carpet broadcast after 25,000 runners pass through. Murphy Reinschreiber, chief operating officer of the McCourt Foundation, told the Los Angeles Times that the scope of the marathon complicates any date change. The course stretches from Dodger Stadium to Century City, involving thousands of volunteers, medical personnel, and city staff. 'There are two major facilities — Dodger Stadium and Century City — connected by what's really a 26-mile stage,' he said. 'The number of people, communities and businesses that are all impacted by a change of date is mind-boggling.' More than 5,000 people have already registered for the 2026 race. They will be offered the option of a refund due to the change. As part of the agreement, the Academy has committed to avoiding future conflicts by preserving the third Sunday in March for the marathon. Though that date is traditional, the event has shifted in the past. In 2009, for instance, it was held on Memorial Day to accommodate Sunday church services. In 2016, it coincided with the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in February. The COVID-19 pandemic also pushed the 2021 marathon to November. The marathon and the Academy also plan to collaborate moving forward, promoting one another's events to serve the broader Los Angeles community.

Tennis star weeks from graduation killed by accused drunk driver, CA police say
A high school tennis star died weeks from graduation after California police say he was hit by a suspected drunk driver. Manhattan Beach Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian just before 1 a.m. Sunday, May 4, the department said in a Facebook post. Despite efforts to save the pedestrian, identified by multiple news reports as Braun Levi, 18, he died from his injuries at a hospital, police said. The driver, identified as Jenia Belt, 33, of Los Angeles, was arrested on felony counts of DUI and murder, according to police. She is being held without bail, jail records show. Loyola High School Principal Jamal K. Adams shared news of Levi's death with 'profound sadness,' according to a statement obtained by KCAL. 'Braun was a shining presence in our Loyola family, bringing light, joy, and inspiration to everyone he touched,' Adams said, according to the news outlet. The school's assistant principal called Levi's death an 'unthinkable tragedy' during a prayer service, the Manhattan Beach News reported. 'Braun was a friend and an inspiration to me,' Paul Jordan said, the outlet reported. 'He was a friend to all who knew him, and we are all better for having known him. Braun loved his family, he loved Loyola, he loved his Palisades community, and he loved all of you, his fellow cubs.' Jordan noted Levi 'was and is alive all across this campus,' adding that now is the time to tell his stories, a video of the service shows. 'For example, one of my favorites is in March when Braun decided on a whim to run the LA Marathon with no training,' Jordan said, bringing about laughter in the solemn room. Levi, who recently moved to the South Bay after his family lost their home in the Palisades Fire, served as his high school's tennis captain for three years, The Los Angeles Times reported. In a Facebook post, Loyola Athletics called the high school senior 'one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history, having just won his 4th consecutive league championship on April 29.' Brian Held, coach of the varsity tennis team, told The Los Angeles Times that Levi was 'probably the most decorated player to ever play for the school.' 'We are all stunned, devastated and heartbroken with this tragedy,' Held said in an email to the newspaper. 'Braun was the most amazing, all-around leader, whom everyone loved, even his opponents. He was just that type of kid — unique and special.' Others echoed the sentiment, including a friend on Instagram, who called Levi a 'legend.' 'Whether you were lucky enough to cross paths with him for an hour or a lifetime, he left an impression,' the friend wrote. 'It was impossible to be sad or bored whenever Braun was around, and his gift for lifting those around him was truly singular.' Manhattan Beach is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Los Angeles.

Jaw-dropping demands and behavior of Meghan's super-agent Ari Emanuel revealed
Hollywood super agent Ari Emanuel, whose clients include Meghan Markle, sends two pages listing foods he cannot eat if invited to dinner, it is claimed. Emirati government official Khaldoon Al Mubarak revealed: 'Some people will come to your house and say, "I don't eat cheese or I'm lactose intolerant," 'Ari will send a two-page list of things he will or won't eat.' Emanuel, the inspiration for Jeremy Piven 's foul-mouthed agent on HBO show Entourage, also paid subordinate Christian Muirhead $10,000 to run the LA Marathon to get in better shape, the Wall Street Journal reported. Muirhead completed the marathon and so-impressed Emanuel that he's now a co-chairman at his firm. The health-freak super agent's fascinating demands and behavior have been revealed in a new profile. He is said to be a ferocious boss and brutal negotiator who's adored by his clients and was described as a 'savage with a heart' by one business associate. Emanuel, who helped found the Endeavor talent agency, rises at 4am each day for a workout and an ice bath. Among the first calls he makes is to his movie star client Mark Wahlberg, also known for getting up before dawn to begin working out. Emanuel, 64, is worth more than $1 billion and was paid more than $83 million last year. Just how hard he grafts for his enormous salary was also revealed by the Journal, with Emanuel making around 300 work-related phone calls on an average day. Besides Wahlberg, Emanuel's agency represents Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle. He fired actor Justin Baldoni from his books after the actor was accused of sexual harassment by his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively. Emanuel said in February that he was 'ride or die' for Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds - both of whom are his clients. But the pair are now teetering on the brink of professional and reputational ruin after Baldoni hit back with his own countersuit he says proves that Lively is a liar and that Reynolds is a manipulative bully. Emanuel hasn't spoken about Lively or Reynolds since. Emanuel's other company TKO Group Holdings owns UFC and WWE, with Emanuel spotted ringside at a UFC event with Trump last weekend. But he's a Democrat who donated $1 million to Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. Like Entourage's Ari Gold is vain to the point of being a 'perfectionist', as the Journal puts it. The tycoon 'doesn't shy away from acknowledging' as such, the report continues, recalling Emanuel's own workout routine that has continued like clockwork for his entire career. 'We usually catch up every day about 4:30 or 5am,' said fellow early riser Wahlberg of how Emanuel still finds time to call every morning amid this 'intense' daily regimen. Emanuel initially tried to distance himself from Entourage when it began airing. But once the show became a hit he is said to have been happy to tell people around Hollywood that he's 'the real Ari.' Emanuel was born in Chicago to a doctor father and civil rights activist mom who once ran a nightclub. He was ferociously competitive with his two brothers, both of whom have also gone on to be high-flyers. One of them, Emanuel, was a chief of staff to former President Barack Obama and is touted as a future Democrat presidential candidate. The other, Ezekiel, is a renowned oncologist. Emanuel began his career as a trainee at Creative Artists Agency in Hollywood and made his fortune after helping found Endeavor. Endeavor merged with iconic agency William Morris in 2009 to become William Morris Endeavor (WME) and further consolidated Emanuel's status as Hollywood's top power player. Emanuel helped take Endeavor public in 2021. That saw Emanuel holding shares worth close to $500 million, with the agent officially joining the billionaire's club in early 2025, according to Bloomberg. He's also the president of UFC parent TKO, which also counts Emanuel as its CEO and split from WME to become a separate company in 2023. Emanuel is now focusing on buying up live sporting and music events and is said to consider both a lucrative future source of revenue. He is a father to three sons with ex-wife Sarah Hardwick Addington. The couple divorced in 2018 and in 2022 Emanuel married fashion designer Sarah Staudinger, who runs the brand STAUD.

2025 LA Marathon winner, Matt Richtman says it took "months of dedicated training"
In just his second-ever marathon race, Illinois native Matt Richtman won Sunday's Los Angeles Marathon , the first American to do so in 31 years. For the Montana State cross-country standout, he said the inspiration for doing the 26-mile race came from the running community. "For me, really getting into the marathon was just, you know it just started with being with everyone," Richtman said. "You know the marathon and half marathons are such a community group and for me, I just wanted to be part of that." Richtman's high school cross country coach said he called the win at mile 13 when Richtman made his move. "The commentator on the stream was saying he might be fading a little bit, I'm going, I've seen him do this move 50 times. He's gonna win it, and I don't think I blinked the last hour of the race," Kaneland High School head track and field coach Andy Drendel said. The coach told CBS News Chicago that Richtman was "the best competitor that we'd ever seen." There was a lot of preparation and training for the 25-year-old ahead of the March 16 race. His father, Tom Richtman, told CBS News Chicago that his son trained two hours a day, for six months – running over 100 miles a week, despite the weather. "There was a lot of preparation for sure, years building on it and months of dedicated training, just for the LA Marathon," Richtman said. He said he wasn't sure about his winning prospects, not until the last three miles or so. "And so really it was just focusing on the finish line, try not to get ahead of myself -- because you're not done until you cross that line." Richtman finished at 2:07:56, while the second-place runner, Athanas Kioko of Kenya came nearly three minutes later, at 2:10:55. Both of those times surpassed the 2024 marathon winner's finish at 2:11:01. So what's next for Richtman? "We'll see. I haven't really decided yet. I'm sure I will run a marathon fairly soon here, hopefully in the fall but I really haven't decided anything going forward, just because it has been so busy so far," he said.
