Rare Luke Skywalker toy expected to sell for six figures

In the world of collectible action figures, it's tough to beat the 1978 Kenner Luke Skywalker. Arguably the most recognizable toy of its era, the Skywalker has long been among the most coveted among collectors, and considered the 'holy grail' of production action figures. The rocket-firing Boba Fett, which made headlines last year when one sold for an eye-catching $1.34 million, is a prototype and thus considered in a separate category. What might be the single-finest and most significant example of a Skywalker figure in the world, graded AFA 90 (one of two at the grade with none higher), with a double telescoping lightsaber, is currently at auction at LCG and is expected to rake in $100,000 to $200,000. The double telescoping designation signifies the figure was released prior to the modification of the lightsaber early on in production to release cost and streamline production — making it the rarest of rare for the popular figure. RELATED STORY: Searching for Skywalker: The quest for a signed Luke rookie card The other AFA 90 example of a DT Skywalker sold for $100,251 in 2022, setting a record at the time for the most expensive production figure ever sold. That record has since been eclipsed by a DT Darth Vader which fetched $130,095 earlier this year. LCG writes in its auction description that, between the offered figure and the other which they sold in 2022, this reigns supreme thanks to various condition factors in addition to a fully extended saber visible within the package. 'This anomaly is unexplained, and we could only find one other example of this feature in the online auction archives made public by the major auction houses (our search included all three characters featuring DT saber: Luke, Vader, Ben Kenobi),' writes LCG in its lot description. The current bid is $24,200 with 11 days remaining at auction. Will Stern is a reporter and editor for cllct, the premier company for collectible culture.

LCG Parish Council discusses tax renewals, Northeast Regional Library at meeting

LAFAYETTE, La. () – The parish council meeting tonight had many items on the agenda. One of the items on the agenda was the council approving a special election in Lafayette parish for tax renewals. LCG is attempting to put two property tax millages, which failed in March, back on the ballot for renewal in a special election set for Nov. 15. The majority of the council voted 'yes' meaning the millages will be put back on the ballot. If voters choose once again not to approve the millages in November, the parish would be looking at a $24 million budget shortfall, mainly impacting road maintenance and public health, like mosquito prevention, along with smaller impacts on drainage funding. The millages are most likely targeted for November, instead of the regular election in October, to avoid the same negative impact from up ballot races and amendments that some think led to them failing in the last election. If the millages fail again, the road maintenance millage would expire in 2027, and the public health millage would expire in 2026. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'It's no new tax, we're not increasing tax, it's simply a renewal,' said Rachel Godeaux, Chief Administrative Officer for LCG. 'It's critical to the function of what we do as a government providing roads, drainage, animal control, animal shelter, the coroner's office, and mosquito control.' Another item on the agenda is the introduction, for approval by the council, the mayor-president's Cooperative Endeavor agreement with Holy Rosary Land Holdings Incorporated to build the Northeast Regional Library on Holy Rosary Institute land. The agreement would lease the land for 99 years for one dollar per year, with extension options written into the contract. The parish council vote is one of the last steps to finalizing a location, design and time for the library. A process which has been ongoing since 2018. 'We have moved forward with selecting a site, a different site, than the original one selected, but a better one for accessibility to the public,' said Godeaux. 'The mayor-president reflected earlier about striking at the heart of poverty and that's essentially what we're looking to accomplish with this move of library location to the Holy Rosary Institute.' Momentum builds for revitalizing Bertrand Drive in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. () — Revamping a portion of Bertrand Drive will require a substantial amount of money. Bertrand is a revitalization project that sits high on Lafayette's Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet's list. On June 6, Boulet signed off on a council-approved ordinance that could address this need. One of Mayor-President Boulet's priorities at the start of her administration was to revitalize Johnston Street. 'Johnston Street is a really heavy lift,' Boulet said. 'There are a lot of issues. We're talking from Ambassador Caffery, all through Louisiana Avenue to I-10.' Boulet states Johnston is the heart of Lafayette but to revitalize it in a timely manner it would be better if LCG owned the road. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'The other piece that's critical is Bertrand. Bertrand is owned by the state as well. In order to get construction moving on that project, we need ownership of Bertrand,' Boulet added. Boulet says the notifications along Bertrand Drive are to be significant, including drainage. 'Access in many of the driveways to the businesses. We've worked very closely with those businesses,' she said. 'We've been through a lot of the foundational work and are ready to position it for construction, but we need ownership of those roads.' According to council records, councilman Andy Naquin agreed to support the road swap ordinance if an economic development district is created. What to know about the new 'Nimbus' COVID variant 'The purpose of creating a taxing district is to find funding for our MP'S (Mayor-President's) road swap for which there is no excess in LCG's current revenue stream. The money will not miraculously appear,' according to part of Naquin's statement to KLFY. The mayor-president acknowledges how paying for the revitalization project is a genuine concern. Boulet states that she respects Naquin for acknowledging that. 'We agreed to look at that, and we are, but we are going to look at several different options and work with Andy to come up with the best solution forward. An EDD could be a very viable option. It might not be the only one to consider, though,' Boulet explained. Boulet says work along Bertrand will be ready to go probably by the end of the year, if not, by the first quarter.
