Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office opened at PINS
LAHORE: With prime focus on research initiatives in the Institute, the Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office has been formally inaugurated here at the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS) on Saturday. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Dr. Almas Bashir. Executive Director PINS Prof. Dr. Asif Bashir, Principal Ameer uddin Medical College Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal and senior professors and health professionals attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Asif Bashir emphasized that PINS is committed to enhancing healthcare services in collaboration with international institutions. The establishment of the Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office marks a significant step towards expanding the institute's research initiatives, enabling young doctors and professionals to benefit from dedicated facilities and resources for research and editorial work, he said. In his address, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal underscored the vital role of medical research in the development of healthcare system worldwide. He emphasized that while Pakistan has no shortage of talent, the focus should now be shifted towards self-reliance, urging professionals to contribute actively to research and innovation across all healthcare domains instead of relying solely on external support. He stressed the importance of research in the field of neuroscience, noting that PINS continues to progress steadily in the domain of neurosurgery. He expressed his confidence that Pakistani surgeons and medical professionals will continue to make the nation proud through excellence in clinical and research fields. Principal LGH and ED PINS jointly reiterated that institutions are strengthened not by infrastructure alone but through mutual cooperation and cohesive teamwork. They highlighted the inseparable relationship between LGH and PINS, describing it as 'two souls in one body,' both committed to ensuring optimal patient care and clinical services through unified efforts. They reaffirmed their dedication to implementing the health initiatives of Chief Minister Punjab Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif by providing integrated treatment platforms for patients at both PINS and LGH. They stressed that delivering high-quality healthcare to all patients without discrimination remains their shared mission and no effort will be spared in achieving this goal. Medical strike ends as Punjab declares health emergency
In response to Indian aggression targeting various parts of Punjab, the provincial government on Wednesday ordered the immediate closure of all public and private educational institutions, while placing hospitals on high alert to handle potential emergency situations. All intermediate and practical examinations scheduled for the day were cancelled by the Punjab Boards, including the Part-II Islamiyat and Accounting papers. Matriculation practical exams across all boards were also postponed. Colleges and universities suspended their semester exams, with new dates to be announced once the institutions reopen. The Punjab Health Department has directed all public hospitalsincluding District Headquarters (DHQs) and Tehsil Headquarters (THQs)to operate on a 24-hour emergency footing. Senior medical staff, including professors, doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were ordered to remain on duty without exception. In a significant development, the Grand Health Alliance, which had been on strike for over a month, suspended all protests and resumed duties to support emergency preparedness. Their return marks a unified response from the medical community amid heightened national tensions. A high-level security and preparedness meeting was convened at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), chaired by Prof Al-Fareed Zafar, Principal of Ameer Uddin Medical College and PGMI. The meeting was attended by senior faculty, administrative doctors, and hospital officials, including LGH Medical Superintendent Prof Dr Faryad Hussain and Dr. Umar Ishaq, MS of Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS). Prof Zafar placed all LGH departments on high alert and appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management to lead coordination across departments. Detailed briefings were held with each department to ensure readiness, with special emphasis on emergency supplies, availability of life-saving drugs, standby ambulances, functional operation theatres and uninterrupted power backup. Medical personnel were instructed to remain available at all times with their phones switched on and were prohibited from leaving their posts without prior approval. Coordination was also established with the Blood Donation Society of AMC to guarantee timely supply of blood during any mass casualty event. Reinforcing the need for discipline and national unity, Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar stated, "The country is in safe hands, and our Armed Forces have the full support of the nation. As medical professionals, we stand ready to work on the front lines around the clock, offering our services without hesitation in this critical time." He praised the nation's resilience and urged the medical community to uphold their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.

Health facilities across Punjab put on high alert
LAHORE: In the wake of ongoing emergency situation amid Indian missiles attack, emergency has been declared in health facilities across Punjab and leaves of all kinds of doctors and paramedical staff has been cancelled. The Punjab health department has also evolved a contingency plan for providing round the clock quality and prompt healthcare services in case of any emergent situation. The health department has issued directions to heads of medical colleges in the Punjab, medical superintendents of all teachings hospitals and district and tehsil headquarters hospitals, heads of special health institutions and the director general and director of health services to take effective steps in this regard, sources said, adding: 'They have also been directed to provide efficient medical cover including standby arrangements for medical, surgical or special care expected in case of an emergent situation.' They have also been asked to ensure availability of senior administrators and medical staff besides issuing emergency duty rosters, emergency situation crisis management plans, life saving medicines, vaccines, disposables, linen and reserve beds. They have been directed to ensure that all bio-medical equipment and other machines, patient lifts, standby generators and operation theatres are in working condition. An emergent meeting of the Academic Council of Ameer uddin Medical College/PGMI was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar in which it was decided to place all LGH departments on high alert to effectively deal with any unforeseen circumstances or disaster scenario. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management and directed to ensure full coordination across all departments to face any critical situation with courage and resilience. Principal LGH also directed the Director of Disaster Management to remain in constant liaison with the Blood Donation Society of Ameer uddin Medical College to ensure timely blood supply to injured patients when required. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar instructed that life-saving drugs, required blood group stocks be ensured and that all healthcare professionals remain alert round the clock with their mobile phones switched on. He directed that no employee should leave his station without prior permission from the competent authority. Principal AMC also emphasized about ensuring the availability of beds in all wards beyond the Emergency Department, keeping all Operation Theatres and medical equipment fully functional, maintaining standby ambulances, updating generators and ensuring that security personnel remain vigilant following all SOPs. He stated that the country is in safe hands and emphasized the need for national unity.
