Messi and Inter Miami will play two matches against the Vancouver Whitecaps later this month in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament. Inter Miami will visit Vancouver at BC Place on April 24 at 10:30 p.m. ET in the first leg of their semifinal. Inter Miami will host Vancouver in the second leg on April 30 at 8 p.m. at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The first leg in Vancouver will be Messi's first game in the Canadian city. Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets did not travel to Vancouver for a regular-season game last season on May 25, 2024. Inter Miami opted to rest their aging Barcelona trio, disappointing ticket-paying fans who attended the game. Messi turned in a vintage performance, scoring two goals with an assist in Inter Miami's 3-1 win against Los Angeles FC, to advance 3-2 on aggregate score during the second leg of their quarterfinal on Wednesday night. Vancouver's Tristian Blackmon scored the tie-breaking goal to help the Whitecaps advance past LIGA MX side Pumas in Mexico City late Wednesday night. Vancouver scored twice on the road, capitalizing on the away goals tiebreaker for the tournament despite the 3-all aggregate score during their quarterfinal. Vancouver is unable to host the first leg against Inter Miami on an early date due to an AC/DC concert held at the venue on April 22, creating a little bit of a schedule jam for Inter Miami. Inter Miami is scheduled to host FC Dallas in a MLS regular-season match on April 26, two days after the first leg. It's unclear whether MLS will adjust. Before the Champions Cup semifinal, Inter Miami will visit the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on Sunday, then face the Columbus Crew at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland on April 19. Inter Miami and Vancouver's semifinal will be played just six days apart, while the other semifinal between LIGA MX clubs Tigres UANL and Cruz Azul will be played eight days apart on April 23 and May 1. If Inter Miami advances past Vancouver in the semifinal, it's possible it could host the June 1 Champions Cup final before participating in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup. Inter Miami will play Egyptian side Al Ahly FC in the Club World Cup opening game on June 14 in Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, face FC Porto on June 19 in Atlanta, and play Palmeiras on June 23 in Miami during the group stage of the FIFA tournament.

MLS has announced that the league's all-stars are set to take on Liga MX stars once again this summer. The two leagues have gone head to head in the fan-friendly exhibition plenty of times in the last few years, and they will come together for another night of fun on July 23 at Q2 Stadium in Austin. The highly-anticipated match, which marks the first professional All-Star Game to be played in Austin, will be broadcast live exclusively on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish. March 18 - The 2025 MLS All-Star Game once again will pit the league's top players against a team of All-Stars from Mexico's LIGA MX on July 23 in Austin, Texas. It's the fourth time using that format for the showcase, previously done in 2021, 2022 and 2024. "We are thrilled to once again host LIGA MX at the 2025 MLS All-Star Game, showcasing the best talent from our leagues," MLS executive vice president Camilo Durana said. The match at Q2 Stadium will mark the first major professional All-Star Game played in the Texas capital. "It is always a great honor for LIGA MX to participate in an event like the MLS All-Star Game. It fills us with excitement to return to this stage to showcase the quality of our players and continue to connect with our fans in the United States," LIGA MX director of operations Francisco Iturbide said. The MLS roster will consist of 26 players: 12 selected by fan vote, 12 selected by Austin FC and MLS All-Star coach Nico Estevez, and two selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Leagues Cup 2025 schedule announced: When and where MLS, LIGA MX teams will play tournament Columbus Crew will begin its Leagues Cup title defense hosting LIGA MX side Toluca on July 29, while Lionel Messi's Inter Miami will begin their pursuit of a second Leagues Cup title against Atlas one day later, tournament organizers announced Tuesday. Reigning MLS champions L.A. Galaxy will headline the third night of action hosting Club Tijuana on July 31. The 2025 Leagues Cup tournament ends with the Aug. 31 final. Inter Miami and Columbus were the first two winners of the summer tournament between MLS and LIGA MX teams. Leagues Cup organizers announced several changes to the tournament last month, including 58 of 62 possible matches will be played between MLS and LIGA MX teams before the semifinal. All 18 LIGA MX clubs and 18 of 30 MLS teams will participate. The teams were separated into six sets of six clubs, and each MLS club will face a counterpart from Mexico during the first phase of the tournament. The top four MLS and LIGA MX clubs, ranked with a points system, will advance to the quarterfinals. The Leagues Cup champion, runner-up and third-place team will again be awarded spots in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. Leagues Cup organizers also announced the Top 6 LIGA MX clubs – Club América, Cruz Azul, Toluca, Tigres, Monterrey and Pumas – will have less travel and hosting privileges at MLS stadiums. Club América, the LIGA MX champion, will begin in Salt Lake City, then play two games in Texas. Cruz Azul and Tigres will play two matches in California. Leagues Cup: Here's what's new about the 2025 tournament featuring MLS, LIGA MX teams
The 2025 Leagues Cup will feature 18 of 30 MLS teams and all 18 clubs from LIGA MX, beginning July 29 to the Aug. 31 final. Tournament organizers announced the new format Thursday. At least 94% of the tournament (58 of the 62 possible matches) features an MLS club against a LIGA MX club before the semifinals. Lionel Messi's Inter Miami won the tournament in 2023, while the Columbus Crew won the 2024 edition. Both clubs, along with MLS Cup champion L.A. Galaxy, LAFC and Real Salt Lake are among the Top 10 ranked clubs in the 2025 field. Leagues Cup 2025 will be played in two rounds: Phase One and the Knockout Rounds. Phase One will feature three consecutive match dates per club, and all 54 Phase One matches will be played between MLS and LIGA MX clubs. Most Leagues Cup knockout matches will be played midweek as the MLS and LIGA MX regular seasons will continue play through the month of August. The top four MLS and LIGA MX clubs, ranked with a points system after Phase One, will advance to the quarterfinals. The new format was created following a collaborative effort of the Leagues Cup Organizing Committee with representatives from Leagues Cup, MLS and LIGA MX leadership. Considerations included rewarding regular season results and geographical regions while addressing what they've learned from the last two editions of the tournament, including the need for more interleague matchups. The Leagues Cup champion, runner-up and third-place team will again be awarded spots in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. The teams will be separated into six sets of six clubs – three sets in the East, and three sets in the West – in Phase One of the tournament. Each set of six will include an MLS and LIGA MX club ranked in Tier 1 (teams ranked 1-3 from each league), Tier 2 (ranked 4-6) and Tier 3 (ranked 7-9). Each team will play three matches against the opponents from the opposite league within their set. For example, Inter Miami would play three matches against LIGA MX clubs during Phase One. What is the new Leagues Cup tournament points system? MLS and Liga MX teams will compete in a league-specific table against the teams from their own league. MLS clubs will earn points in the Leagues Cup MLS table, while LIGA MX clubs earn points in the Leagues Cup LIGA MX table. The top four clubs from each league-specific table advance to the quarterfinals. Leagues Cup points format, and no draws Leagues Cup will maintain its current "No Draws" format: Regulation wins count as three points, but games will go to an immediate penalty shootout if tied at the end of regulation. During Phase One: Each club receives one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes. The winner of the penalty shootout will earn an additional point. If tied at the end of regulation in the quarterfinals and beyond, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout. How will MLS and LIGA MX teams be ranked in Leagues Cup? The Leagues Cup ranking combines MLS and LIGA MX league performance across 34 regular season matches into a unified table. MLS teams will be ranked based on the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield standings with expansion franchise San Diego FC listed last. LIGA MX clubs will be ranked based on the cumulative 34 matches in the 2024 Clausura and Apertura tournaments.
