L&T gains Adani Power contract for 6.4GW thermal power units in India
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a contract from India's largest private sector thermal power producer, Adani Power, to set up eight thermal power units. Each will have a capacity of 800MW, culminating in a total new generation capacity of 6.4GW. L&T Energy – CarbonLite Solutions (LTECLS) will execute the order, classified under the ultra-mega category by L&T. The comprehensive scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply and commissioning of boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) packages along with auxiliaries and associated mechanical, electrical and control and instrumentation (C&I) systems. Adani Power, with more than 18GW installed capacity, will be instrumental in fulfilling India's baseload electricity needs. LTECLS combines deep expertise in engineering, manufacturing and project execution to deliver solutions for power and low-carbon processes. Its in-house capabilities are strengthened by partnerships with global companies in the field. L&T deputy managing director and president Mr Subramanian Sarma stated: 'In today's dynamic energy landscape, where India's demand for reliable and affordable power continues to grow, this order from the Adani Group reinforces our role as a leading partner in building the country's critical energy infrastructure'. L&T is engaged in engineering, procurement and construction projects, hi-tech manufacturing, and services in various locations. In early August 2025, Adani Power was issued a letter of intent (LoI) by the Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited to provide 2,274MW of electricity to the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited. In July 2025, Adani completed the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Limited for an aggregate consideration of Rs40bn ($466m). L&T bags massive order above Rs 15,000 crore from Adani Power
