La Beauté Louis Vuitton Makeup Review 2025

Back in March, Louis Vuitton announced that they're officially venturing into the makeup category with the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton. As of yesterday, the full collection has been revealed. While it's not available to shop until August 29th at select Louis Vuitton stores and I got an early beauty editor preview of the lipsticks, lip balms, and eyeshadows. Keep scrolling for all the details—plus pics of the products. Right now, La Beauté consists of LV Rouge (satin and matte lipsticks in 55 shades), LV Baume (lip balm in 10 sheer tints), and LV Ombres (8 eyeshadow palettes, each with 4 different shades). Everything in the collection is dreamed up by creative director and makeup artist legend Pat McGrath. Pat McGrath has been aligned with the brand for years and is obviously a pro when it comes to building a beauty empire. "Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation," she says. "The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.' The packaging—a mix of classic black and white with gold accents and LV logos—is incredibly chic. Like little couture items meant to be cherished and refilled. Yes, everything in the collection is refillable, and given the cost, I imagine customers will 100 percent refill these objets once they've used up the makeup inside. The lipsticks and lip balms are $160 each, and the eyeshadow palettes $250. Refills for the lipsticks are $69, and eyeshadow refills cost $92. Luxury indeed. When La Beauté Louis Vuitton landed on my desk earlier last week, I was immediately struck by how stunning and weighty the packaging is. The eyeshadow palettes honestly feel more like luxury leather goods than makeup, and the lipsticks and balms look more like an art piece you'd keep displayed on a shelf rather than a lip product that bounces around at the bottom of your bag. I'm admittedly not much of an eyeshadow person (I don't think I've worn powder shadow since 2017?), but I immediately gravitated towards the lip products and played around with the formulas to see how they'd make their way into my current lip combos. The balms are surprisingly glossy; they build up nicely and leave lips moisturized and supple (thanks to shea butter and hyaluronic acid) with just the right amount of shimmery tint that's more dewy than juicy. The lipsticks, while velvety-matte and full-coverage, also have a nice moisturizing effect too. Unlike many refillable beauty products I've tried, it's super simple to swap out the colors and pop a new shade into the case. Shade-wise, my favorites include the Nude Necessaire lipstick and the Tender Bliss balm. Tender Bliss is a shimmery pale pink that subtly plumps and tints lips for a no makeup makeup effect—it's one of those products I could see myself using every day. The big thing here is the cost. Even by luxury standards, La Beauté Louis Vuitton comes with a steep price tag. A Dior lip balm or Chanel lipstick will set you back $40 to $50, but Louis Vuitton's are more than three times that, which I was honestly surprised by. (I wrongly told our fashion editor they'd cost somewhere around $80 bucks, like Hermes' lipstick—oops.) Yes, the formulas are really nice—I'd expect nothing but perfection from Dame Pat McGrath, so this is no surprise—but unless your lipstick applies itself or literally has tattoo-level staying power, in the year 2025 lipstick is just lipstick. What you're largely paying for here is the branding, packaging, and luxury vibes. On that front, LV delivers. Thanks to brands like Rhode and Summer Fridays, people treat lip balms as more than makeup. They're like trending accessories or little status symbols, and I can totally see people wielding their little white and black tubes of LV Baume as a flex this fall. Louis Vuitton Beauty Is Almost Here — & I Tried Everything First

Louis Vuitton has always been synonymous with fashion and travel accessories, and now, the iconic French maison is expanding its collection of luxury goods (including a fragrance range that launched in 2016) to bet big on makeup. Today marks a new chapter in the heritage brand's history with La Beauté Louis Vuitton, a debut collection of beauty products that combines signature LV house codes. And behind it all? Iconic makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, as creative director. 'Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity and innovation,' McGrath says via press release. The inaugural lineup includes lipstick, lip balm and a curated array of eyeshadow palettes, all conceived as cosmetics, yes, but also objets d'art to be kept, refilled and treasured for years to come. Let's start with LV Rouge lipstick. Available in 55 shades (a subtle nod to the Roman numerals LV) and two finishes (matte and satin), infused with lip-loving ingredients like shea butter and hyaluronic acid, plus waxes derived from rose, jasmine and mimosa flowers. Each lipstick bullet is stamped with the iconic LV monogram and features the signature monogram flower on the cap. Taking the sensorial experience to the next level, the lipsticks are scented with a custom floral fragrance developed by house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. As I swiped on the various shades, they felt like the equivalent of couture on my lips; the shades are dimensional and beautifully pigmented, and feel comfortable and effortless on my lips. Monogram Rouge, a muted warm red that almost wears like a neutral, feels as effortlessly chic as French girl beauty always — and rather deceptively — appears. It doesn't feel makeup-y or lipstick-y, but rather like a luxury accessory that brings your entire look to life. Next, there's LV Baume — the most luxurious lip balm I have ever tried. Available in 10 shades (including clear), the hydrating formula adds a sheer tint that brings lips to life. (My favourite of the bunch: Monogram Touch, a sheer chocolate brown that echoes the unmistakable initials on the iconic LV canvas.) Like the lipsticks, the balms are also gently scented with a subtle raspberry-mint fragrance and are easily refillable. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Louis Vuitton (@louisvuitton) Last, but not least, adorn your eyelids with the LV Ombres eyeshadow quads, which are available in eight distinct colour stories. Ranging from luminous beige to lipstick-inspired (and surprisingly wearable) burgundy, the silky, pigmented shadows are gentle on the eyes, thanks to moisturising ingredients like plant-derived squalane and camelina flower oil extract. Best of all, the quads take the guesswork out of picking shades that work together in a single eye look. (These gorgeous palettes are also refillable, but note that each petal-shaped pan is magnetised individually and requires a bit of finesse to swap in and out.) The full collection drops on 25th August, so be sure to set those alarms if you want to own a piece of luxury beauty history. (And when we say 'luxury', we mean it: LV Rouge and LV Baume retail for £120 each, and LV Ombres go for £190.) 'I've always said makeup is more than product: it's performance, obsession and emotion,' McGrath says. 'This new chapter is about pushing craftsmanship into a new realm.'

Pat McGrath on Crafting Louis Vuitton's New Makeup Line

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Pat McGrath can tell you, but she would rather show you: 'Start with the first question, my angel.' We are meeting about her first major beauty project since launching her eponymous brand, Pat McGrath Labs, 10 years ago. Her wide cheekbones and smooth hair—encircled with her signature black, bejeweled stretchy headband—fill the screen, and I don't need a Zoom pop-up to tell me that the queen of beauty has entered the conversation. 'How could I not?' she coyly says when I ask her why she agreed to become the creative director of cosmetics for La Beauté Louis Vuitton. Louis Vuitton's artistic director of women's collections, Nicolas Ghesquière, and McGrath have had a long creative relationship, which includes creating rainbow faces inspired in part by obscure 1980s sci-fi movies. True to the brand that she calls 'luxury in motion,' she ran into 'that candy store of color, texture, excellence, and luxury,' she says, her voice filled with glee. La Beauté Louis Vuitton is McGrath's gift of freedom: The word comes up no less than four times in a YouTube video with Ghesquière, where they talk about the joy they both find in free expression. To give consumers that same happiness, McGrath has crafted a broad palette. The collection has eight eye shadow quartets, called LV Ombres; 10 shades of a sheer lip balm, called LV Baume; and, most incredibly, 55 shades of LV Rouge lip color in satin or velvety matte. Each La Beauté item has a magnetic case that snaps and swivels shut in a way that signals something pleasing, like a trunk clasp being locked. The black-and-gold packaging was designed by German furniture designer Konstantin Grcic and features beautiful flourishes, like the brand's signature four-point flower as an overlay for the compact. This line might boast the greatest number of lipsticks ever created for a single brand all at once—55 shades in homage to the roman numeral LV. 'It's fabulous. And like we always say, you can never have enough lipsticks,' McGrath says. When you consider that she used to lug about 80 bags of makeup and beauty accessories to the world's fashion weeks—including some designated 'Sequins' and 'Basic Sequins'—it makes sense. When I survey the lipstick shades laid out in a conference room in Vuitton's New York headquarters, months ahead of the closely guarded launch, there is an array of plums, oranges, pinks, roses, reds, and browns. To my untrained eye, each color varies only a half shade from the one before it (they have names that are important to Vuitton history, such as Monogram Rouge). But to McGrath, each one represents a possibility and a perfect dream color to someone who's been searching for it all their life and maybe didn't even know it. 'I want to make sure everybody is completely happy. It is not one nude that works for all. No.' McGrath spent four years 'really trying the lipsticks on everybody. That's how I work. It's physical.' When I uncap them, the room fills with a lovely rose, mimosa, and jasmine fragrance (the scent of the lipsticks), then raspberry and mint (the aroma for the balms). Both were created by Louis Vuitton master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. McGrath has a sort of photographic memory for colors. She can see one once and earmark it for someone, whether it's a supermodel who sits in her chair or a stranger who walks in off the street into the new Vuitton boutique on 57th Street in New York. 'Wherever I am in the world, I'm looking for colors and ideas,' she says. In the way that you'd send memes to your friends via group chat late at night, McGrath's team sends shades. 'They send it to me at four in the morning and I send it back to them, and they're like, 'Oh, you're up.' Color is my obsession.' A version of this story appears in the September 2025 issue of ELLE. Louis Vuitton launches long-awaited beauty products next week

[SINGAPORE] It took a while, but Louis Vuitton is finally introducing its cosmetics line, debuting with lipsticks, lip balms and eyeshadows, available online from Monday (Aug 25) and in global stores from Aug 29. Customers in China will get first dibs from Aug 20, though. Louis Vuitton fans have new things to spend on. PHOTO: LOUIS VUITTON Behind the collection is Pat McGrath, an influential figure in the makeup world who has been working backstage for the French brand's fashion shows for over two decades. 'The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty,' says McGrath, who is creative director of cosmetics, La Beaute Louis Vuitton. The 896 Monogram Rouge is a signature colour for Louis Vuitton. The collection will kick off with 55 shades of LV Rouge lipsticks – a subtle nod to the Roman numerals for the brand's acronym, LV – across two finishes. There will be 27 creamy satin hues and 28 velvety matte shades, each promising to deliver 'richly pigmented colour'. The lipsticks are formulated with upcycled waxes from rose, jasmine and mimosa flowers, so they carry a distinct fragrance. They are also enriched with shea butter and hyaluronic acid that are supposed to provide long-lasting comfort, as well as 12-hour-long wear for the matte finish and 24-hour hydration for the satin one. A NEWSLETTER FOR YOU Friday, 2 pm Lifestyle Our picks of the latest dining, travel and leisure options to treat yourself. Sign Up Sign Up There are also 10 LV Baume shades of lip balms scented with mint and raspberry, and eight LV Ombres eyeshadow palettes. Each palette comprises four eyeshadows – three everyday shades and one with 'a standout hue that shifts the mood, adds dimension, or ignites a spark of luxurious glamour'. The eyeshadows cover six finishes, from ultra-matte to gleaming glitter. 'The eyeshadows really set the tone for La Beaute Louis Vuitton – they are bold, intentional, and made to be remembered,' says McGrath. The cosmetics are packaged in cases created by German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. PHOTO: LOUIS VUITTON The cosmetics come in aluminium and brass cases created by German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. Among other features, he designed a monogram lipstick bullet with the name of the colour engraved on the refill, a window at the top of its casing so the shade can be viewed, and a floral motif lock system that allows only lipsticks and eyeshadows from La Beaute Louis Vuitton to be housed in these cases. Louis Vuitton's lipsticks and lip balms are priced at S$220 each, with refills costing S$94 apiece. Eyeshadow palettes will set you back S$345, with refills at S$125. There are also eyeliner brushes at S$140, and shading and blending brushes at S$155 each. While these cosmetics are the first for the maison, the luxury brand has made vanity cases and beauty tools such as tortoiseshell hairbrushes, carved ivory mirrors and compacts and glass perfume flacons since the 1920s. Among the items preserved in the maison's archives are a 1925 bespoke vanity made for the soprano Marthe Chenal and a toiletry case created for the Polish composer, Jan Paderewski. Go the whole hog with Louis Vuitton's vanity trunk makeup station. PHOTO: LOUIS VUITTON Along with La Beaute's launch, the maison has created a vanity trunk – a makeup station that 'pays homage to both Louis Vuitton's early 20th-century beauty commissions and McGrath's modern-day backstage beauty station'. A dedicated line of small leather goods featuring the brand's iconic monogram canvas has also been designed to go with the products. Limited-edition lipstick pouches and beauty cases will be released in three signature shades as well. A lipstick trunk in the brand's iconic monogram canvas. These will add to the Louis Vuitton ensemble of the brand's diehard fans, while those with more modest budgets will find a less forbidding entry point into the maison's universe. Last month, LVMH, which owns Louis Vuitton, reported a first-half profit that fell 15 per cent to 9.01 billion euros (S$13.5 billion). While its fashion and leather goods sales fell 9 per cent in the second quarter, its beauty sales grew 1 per cent.
