Labor Friends of Israel co-convenor Mike Kelly says Palestine does not meet the international law standards to be a state, urging restraint in pushing ahead with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's plan to recognise Palestinian statehood. 'We're in a position here where we can actually use diplomatic leverage to actually achieve the core values of the Labor movement,' Mr Kelly told Sky News host Chris Kenny. 'If we just push ahead with recognition in this situation for a location that doesn't even meet the international law standards to be a state … we're giving away the ability to actually shape an environment.'
