Representing the Labuan Canoe Association, the brothers showcased outstanding endurance and determination by winning the 51.2-kilometre race, despite undergoing only three months of training ahead of the competition. The Labuan Round Island Kayak Challenge, renowned for its demanding course that circumnavigates Labuan Island, drew 48 participants from various states across Malaysia, and neighbouring Brunei. Competitors battled strong sea currents, unpredictable weather, and open-water conditions, making it a true test of physical and mental strength. Labuan Corporation chief executive officer, Mohd Sukuran Taib praised the brothers' achievement, noting that their success underscores the growing strength of Labuan's athlete development programmes. He said their achievement reaffirmed their status as among Malaysia's top kayak athletes. 'The victory of Nadzmar and Shahdan for the third year in a row is a testament to their exceptional discipline, skill, and perseverance. 'Winning an event of this scale and difficulty with only three months of preparation is simply remarkable. 'This success also reflects the effectiveness of Labuan's ongoing efforts to nurture sporting talent, particularly in sea sports. It is achievements like these that inspire young athletes to strive for excellence,' he said to Bernama after the event's closing ceremony on Sunday. Their latest triumph at the Labuan Round Island Kayak Challenge marks another proud milestone for Labuan, inspiring the next generation of sea sports champions from the island. Mohd Sukuran highlighted the Labuan International Round Island Kayak Challenge is one of the four flagship events of LISC 2025, alongside the International Deep Sea Fishing Challenge, the Regatta International Race, and the Labuan Kayak Mini Marathon Challenge. Labuan Silat Beach C'ship 2025 Records Largest Turnout, Boosts Local Tourism

LABUAN, April 24 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Silat Beach Championship 2025 has drawn a record-breaking 700 participants from across Malaysia and Brunei, making it the largest turnout in the event's history. Held from April 24 to 25 at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex, the two-day championship is one of the key attractions of the ongoing Labuan International Sea Challenge 2025 (LISC). Organised by Pesaka Labuan, the championship drew participants of various age groups from Sabah, Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, and neighbouring Brunei, all showcasing their talents and skills in the traditional Malay martial art. Pesaka Labuan president Khairul Ghani said the championship has been a staple in Labuan's sports calendar, consistently drawing strong participation and setting itself apart as the largest silat gathering compared to similar events in the island. 'This year's turnout is the most significant yet, and it highlights how the event has grown in a proud moment not only for the organisers but also for Labuan's sporting community. 'Held as part of the larger LISC 2025, which runs from April 22 to 27, the silat championship has proven to be one of the most engaging events in the series,' he told Bernama after the flag-off ceremony. Khairul emphasised the event plays a crucial role in preserving the traditional martial art of Silat on the island, ensuring that the legacy continues for future generations. 'It is important for us to sustain cultural pride and identity through such efforts, especially as modern influences grow stronger,' he said. Khairul said beyond the sport itself, the influx of athletes, coaches, supporters, and families has provided a much-welcomed boost to Labuan's tourism and hospitality sectors.
