Lancers International School Becomes the First in Delhi NCR to Introduce Lacrosse

VMPL New Delhi [India], July 31: Lancers International School marks a significant milestone by becoming the first institution in Delhi NCR to introduce Lacrosse into the sports curriculum. In collaboration with the Lacrosse Association of India, the school now offers professional coaching and equipment to students from Grade 3 onwards, furthering its commitment to holistic and world-class education. Lancers International School, one of the top international schools in Gurgaon, and the premier IB World School nestled in the upscale DLF Phase 5, Golf Course Road, continues to stand out as a trailblazer in innovation, this time by introducing Lacrosse into its sports curriculum, becoming the first school in Delhi NCR to do so. Originating from Indigenous communities in North America, Lacrosse is a sport celebrated globally for its blend of speed, athleticism, and strategic gameplay. The institute recognizes its potential to challenge and inspire students. Lancers has collaborated with the Lacrosse Association of India to bring in trained coaches and official equipment to ensure a world-class experience. "Our mission has always been to grow Lacrosse at the grassroots level, and this partnership with Lancers International School is a vital step in that direction. Early exposure to such a dynamic sport will open new athletic pathways for students," shared Dr. Rajesh Turan, General Secretary, Lacrosse Association of Haryana. The sport will be introduced for students from Grade 3 upwards, starting with structured sessions that culminate in matches, showcases, and inter-school opportunities. This milestone is part of a broader mission of Lancers -- one where education meets innovation, and tradition meets bold, future-ready thinking. "The world is constantly evolving, and education must evolve with it. We don't pursue change for its own sake; we embrace it because our students deserve an education that keeps pace with the world they're growing up in," said Mr. Yogesh Sindhwani, Head of School, Lancers International School. In addition to spearheading Lacrosse in Delhi NCR, Lancers International School provides an expansive sports curriculum featuring over 20 disciplines, including football, basketball, cricket, squash, swimming, taekwondo, gymnastics, skating, boxing, shooting, tennis, and fencing. Our students engage in competitive play across these sports, and many have achieved remarkable success, qualifying at both district and national levels. "The strength of Lancers lies in the diversity of experiences we offer. Every child is unique, and our role is to provide an environment where they can explore their interests, pursue their ambitions, and become the best version of themselves," shared Mr. Mann, Director, Lancers International School. This breadth of offerings, supported by expert coaching, top-tier facilities, including a swimming pool and a dedicated indoor multipurpose arena of over 3,200 sqm, and a culture of nurturing teamwork, leadership, and resilience ensures every child thrives athletically and personally. Lancers has always been ahead of the curve, and the introduction of Lacrosse only furthers that legacy.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Crowley and Stein are the Broward Lacrosse Coaches of the Year

At St. Thomas Aquinas this year, a familiar face led the boys' lacrosse team to yet another state championship and a new face helped the girls' lacrosse team stay among the top teams in Broward County. Now, Terry Crowley and Kristina Stein the Miami Herald's Broward County Lacrosse Coaches of the Year. Crowley is the Herald's Boys' Coach of the Year for the fifth straight season after hoisting his fourth state championship trophy with the Raiders. Crowley also led St. Thomas Aquinas to state titles in 2016, 2017 and 2022, and he also took the Raiders to the title game in 2015, 2019 and 2023. In 2024, St. Thomas Aquinas went into the region playoffs with a losing record before making a run to the final four and that experience primed the Raiders for a return to championship form in 2025. St. Thomas Aquinas brought another trophy back to Fort Lauderdale by blowing out Ponte Vedra, 13-4, in the Class 2A title game May 10. Along the way, the Raiders lost only one game to another Florida team—an overtime loss to Benjamin in April. Stein is the Herald's Broward County Girls' Lacrosse Coach of the Year after sustaining the Raiders' status as one of the top teams in the county in her first year as coach. St. Thomas Aquinas reached the Region 4-2A championship, making a deeper run in the postseason than any other Broward team, and went undefeated against county rivals. In the region playoffs, the Raiders won their first three games each by at least nine goals, only to narrowly fall 7-6 to Vero Beach in the 4-2A championship May 2. Stein, who spent the last two seasons as the coach at Stoneman Douglas, was previously an assistant at St. Thomas Aquinas and is off to a good start in building on the Raiders' legacy of recent success that includes a state title in 2021 and a trip to the state championship in 2023.

Saskatchewan Rush optimistic after turnaround season comes up short

The Saskatchewan Rush came up one game short of a National Lacrosse League (NLL) championship against the Buffalo Bandits Saturday night, losing 15-6 to the Buffalo Bandits in game three. (Source: Saskatchewan Rush/X) The Saskatchewan Rush came up one game short of a National Lacrosse League (NLL) championship against the Buffalo Bandits Saturday night, losing 15-6 to the Buffalo Bandits in game three. The win makes the Bandits the second team in league history to complete the three-peat, winning three consecutive league championships. Being a part of history doesn't take out the sting for the Rush. 'They're a good team, and we kind of played with them for ten quarters,' said Jake Boudreau, Saskatchewan Rush defense. 'And then just kind of lost it in the second half there. So that sucks, but I think we have a lot to be happy about. Obviously not satisfied, but happy.' For a team that posted losing records since the pandemic, pushing an eventual dynasty opponent to game three of the NLL finals leaves room for perspective. 'We didn't get the result we wanted,' said Jerrett Smith, Saskatchewan Rush defense. 'But making it to game three of the NLL finals against the Bandits, I think at some point you've got to chalk it up as somewhat of a win.' The Rush finished the regular season with a 13-5 record, tied for the second best in franchise history, despite being dismissed as young and inexperienced all year. But that all changed after this year's team got six playoff games under their belts. 'I saw a stat, it was like over half the guys on our team, their first playoff run,' said Zach Manns, Saskatchewan Rush forward. 'And that's valuable experience. It's an experience that not everyone gets. And you've got to take it for what it's worth. Those are high pressure games and those are the type of games that can really make or break a season.' Now that the season has ended, it gives players time to appreciate how far the team has come in just a year, and it gives them time to start looking ahead. 'We really just had a special group this year,' said Brock Haley, Saskatchewan Rush forward. 'To make it this far and compete with one of the best teams, kind of ever, it goes to show what we can do and what we're going to be capable of next year.' The Rush got five individual awards, Frank Scigliano for best goalie, Matt Hossack for best defender, Jimmy Quinlan for top coach, and Derek Keenan won best general manager. Keegan Bell won the best teammate award as voted by the NLL Players' Association. Despite the individual success, it was the enjoyment of coming to the rink every week that made the season especially fun. 'It was just a fantastic group of guys from the top down,' said Manns. 'I can't say anything better. It was probably the most fun year I've every had playing lacrosse, so couldn't be more excited for the future.' The 2012-2014 Rochester Knighthawks are the only other team to win three consecutive NLL championships.
