Sam Tiratira, Arellano complete reverse sweep vs. Perpetual

NCAA By BEA MICALLER,GMA Integrated News Arellano University did it right this time around, accomplishing a grueling reverse sweep against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 19-17, in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday. The Lady Chiefs, who fell short of the same feat last Friday against the league-leading Colegio de San Juan de Letran, found the finishing touch as they improved to 10-6 while the Lady ALTAs fell to 9-6. Standing tall for the Lady Chiefs was rookie middle blocker Sam Tiratira, who posted a career-high 21 points anchored on 19 attacks, one block, and one ace, and Pau de Gzuman and Laika Tudlasan, who both churned out 19 markers. "Siguro talagang binigay sa amin ng Panginoon 'yung game na 'yon. Maganda lang din siguro 'yung mga hugot ko sa ibang tao," Arellano head coach Obet Javier said. With the right mix of people on the court, the Lady Chiefs were able to stun the Lady ALTAs, who actually had the first match point at 14-13 when De Guzman committed an attack error on the opposite side. But De Guzman atoned for it in the next play, soaring from exactly the same side to allow Arellano take the match point at 15-14. Perpetual would once again retake a match point after Winnie Bedaña quick hammer, 17-16, before Tudlasan knotted it all up at 17-all to give Arellano another chance. An attack error from Camille Bustamante saw Arellano clinching an 18-17 cushion before setter Catherin Domasig won it at the net, denying a potential attack from Daizerlyn Uy through a one-handed block. Domasig ended up with 28 excellent sets as their comeback effort won't go down the drain this time. Shaila Omipon paced Perpetual with a 28-point outburst while Bustamante and Bedaña chipped in 16 and 13 markers apiece. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
