Shelter dog is ‘joyful' despite her rough past. She needs a ‘loving best friend'

A 'sweet' dog is filled with joy despite her rough past. Now, a South Carolina animal shelter hopes the pup will get a fresh start in a new home. 'She deserves to be treated like a princess, because she wasn't treated so well before — she was caged and was used for breeding,' the Charleston Animal Society wrote July 13 in a Facebook post. 'She needs to forget that time and enjoy a royal life with a loving best friend.' Lady Lincoln is up for adoption after she was picked up as a stray. McClatchy News reached out for more information from the shelter, which said it has cared for her since May 8 but didn't reveal when she was used as a breeding dog. 'Lady Lincoln was thin with poor skin condition when brought to our care but has gained weight,' Kay Hyman, a spokesperson for the shelter, told McClatchy News via email. 'And her skin has recovered with the help of the medication Apoquel.' Lady Lincoln is described as a mixed-breed dog with a 'heart as big as her name is grand.' At the Charleston Animal Society, she has become known for her love of comfy beds and belly rubs. 'Whether it's people, other pups, or even the mail carrier, Lady Lincoln is always ready with a wagging tail and a warm hello,' the shelter wrote in an online adoption profile. 'She's the perfect blend of playful energy and cuddle-worthy calm. Lady Lincoln loves her walks, enjoys outdoor adventures, and is just as happy curled up next to you for movie night.' As of July 14, the friendly dog still waited for a new owner. Details about the shelter's adoption process can be found at 'Lady Lincoln is a four (year) old polite lady whose previous life held darkness, but this joyful little girl casts kindness, empathy, warmth and light on all that she meets,' the animal organization wrote. 'Lady adores people, dogs, kids and the simple blessings of a warm breeze outside of a kennel. Lady will no longer be used for breeding and deserves a loving home.'
