Large metal plates sent flying onto busy I-95 during serious Burlington crash

One person was hospitalized Thursday after they hit a tractor-trailer, sending large metal plates flying on Interstate 95 in Burlington during the morning commute. It happened on the northbound side of I-95 around 6:30 a.m. Sources told WBZ-TV the smaller vehicle hit the back of the tractor-trailer, sending at least six steel plates flying into the road. Four landed on the opposite side of the road, but did not hit any other cars. Massachusetts State Police said the person from the passenger vehicle was seriously hurt and brought to Lahey Hospital. Police did not say if the person was the driver or a passenger. Images from the scene showed heavy damage to the vehicle's front end. It took more than an hour to clear all the metal plates from the highway. Police closed the left two lanes of the northbound side of I-95 until 9:15 a.m. while crews worked to contain the tractor-trailer's fuel leak. Steel panels flew off a tractor-trailer in Burlington on Interstate 95 during a crash involving a passenger vehicle. CBS Boston No update was available on the condition of the person hurt in the crash. Their name was not released. Massachusetts State Police did not indicate a cause of the crash or if any charges will be filed. "The crash remains under investigation by the State Police, and we wish the person transported a full recovery," Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. No further information is currently available.

Woman involved in head-on crash in Wilmington dies, another remains hospitalized, DA says

A woman has died days after a head-on crash in Wilmington. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office says that 41-year-old Eric Mastropietro was driving her Lexus RX 330 westbound on Route 62 just after 9 p.m. Wednesday when her car crossed over the center line and struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee travelling eastbound. Mastropietro was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burling where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, who was the sole occupant, was also transported to Lahey Hospital where she remains hospitalized. Her condition is unknown at this time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the Wilmington Police Department and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section of the Massachusetts State Police.
