Man, 24, identified in fatal house fire in Portage, Indiana

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim of a deadly fire in Portage, Indiana, over the weekend. Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, The Portage Fire Department responded to a single-story home in the 300 block of Camelot Estates for a fire with possible entrapment. Flames and heavy smoke were seen coming from the north end of the residence. Firefighters immediately performed suppression and search-and-rescue operations. Crews found a man unresponsive inside a bedroom on the south end of the home. He was removed, and lifesaving measures were performed at the scene. The victim was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he later died. The office identified him as 24-year-old Inikko Irizarry. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.

2 motorcyclists killed in Glenwood crash, state police say

Two motorcyclists are dead after a crash Friday night in south suburban Glenwood. The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on northbound Illinois 394, just north of Dyer Road. Illinois State Police said both motorcyclists were heading north on IL 394 when one bike rear-ended the other, causing both motorcycles to crash. One of the riders, identified by medical examiners as Sarah Gudeman, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to Franciscan Health Munster Emergency Room and later died. The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Justin Fasnacht, 22, of Crown Point, Indiana. The roadway was closed during the investigation and reopened around 3 a.m. Saturday. The investigation remains ongoing. No further information was available.

Second man identified in Hammond double homicide

A second man has been identified in a Hammond double homicide early Sunday. Montelle D. Lang, 29, of Chicago, was killed, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. The agency responded just before 4:30 a.m. May 18 to the 500 block of Michigan Street in Hammond where he and Gary Shanklin, 23, of the 4800 block of Walsh Avenue in East Chicago, were found shot dead. Sailor killed in car crash at Naval Station Great Lakes

A U.S. Navy sailor was killed in a car crash Sunday night at Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago's far northern suburbs. Around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, 28-year-old Makaio Bartley was driving on Ziegemeier Street at Naval Station Great Lakes, when his vehicle collided with a guardrail and crashed into a concrete wall, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. Police and firefighters responding to the crash found Bartley unresponsive in the vehicle, a 2018 Honda Civic, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Bartley, originally from California, was stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes at the time. An autopsy determined he died as a result of blunt force injuries from the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Great Lakes Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and Lake County Sheriff's Office.
