2-year-old found safe after man broke into home, left with infant in Interlake First Nation, RCMP say
RCMP are asking for the public's help in finding a man charged with child abduction after a man broke into a home at an Manitoba Interlake First Nation last week and left with a two-year-old child who was later found safe. Mounties at the Gypsumville detachment were called last Friday at around 10:30 p.m. to a home in Lake St. Martin First Nation, about 220 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, for reports of an armed man who had possibly abducted two children. Officers learned four adults and five children were inside the home when a man, who was known to a woman in the house, broke in and threatened everyone with a homemade weapon, police said in a news release Thursday. The four adults and three of the children, all under the age of 12, managed to escape, but two young children couldn't be taken out and stayed with the armed man at the home. Officers went into the house and found a one-year-old infant sleeping. Police said the armed man and a two-year-old child were not in the home. The investigation led police to a nearby home where they found the missing two-year-old unharmed. The armed man was not found at the home and remains at large, police said. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 29-year-old Allan Marsden from Lake St. Martin First Nation. He is facing several charges including abduction under a person under 14, assault with a weapon, breaking and entering, and failing to comply with a release order. Marsden is six feet tall, weighs 198 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

RCMP searching for suspect in child abduction
Manitoba RCMP have issued a warrant for a man who allegedly broke into a home in Lake St. Martin First Nation and was reported to have abducted two children. According to RCMP, the incident took place on Aug. 1. Officers were called at 10:30 p.m. for a report an armed man broke into a home and possibly took two children. Mounties said a woman was at home with five children and three other adults when a man who she knew allegedly broke in and started threatening everyone with a homemade weapon. The adults, along with three children all under the age of 12 were able to escape. Officers were told two very young children couldn't be safely taken out of the home and were inside with the armed man. 'Officers entered the residence and searched the home for the suspect and the two children,' RCMP said in a news release. 'They located a one-year-old infant sleeping safely, however, the armed male as well as a two-year-old infant were not in the home.' The two-year-old was later found unharmed at a nearby home, but the suspect was not found. A warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Allan Marsden of Lake St. Martin First Nation. He is facing charges of four counts of assault with a weapon, abduction of a person under 14, mischief under $5,000 and breaking and entering. None of the charges have been proven in court. Trio charged with assault in north Interlake cemetery stabbing
Three people have been charged in connection with a stabbing in a cemetery in the north of Manitoba's Interlake region. At 10 p.m. Monday, RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the cemetery in Pinaymootang First Nation, about 215 kilometres north of Winnipeg, where they found a 30-year-old man suffering from severe injuries. Mounties provided first aid before the man was rushed to hospital. He remains in stable condition. One day later, RCMP — including police dog services and emergency response unit personnel — executed a search warrant on School Road and made three arrests, a news release said Friday. A man, 29, and woman, 45, from Lake St. Martin, were charged with aggravated assault, firearms and weapons offences and more. A 32-year-old man from Fairford was also charged with aggravated assault, firearms and weapons offences, as well as violating a release order and failing to attend court. All three remain in police custody.

Sexual assault, other charges stayed against Manitoba First Nation chief
Crown prosecutors have stayed child sex charges against the chief of a Manitoba First Nation. The provincial court says charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing and making child pornography were stayed Friday against Christopher Traverse. Traverse was the leader of Lake St. Martin First Nation in the Interlake region when he was arrested in April 2024. He was accused of forcing an eight-year-old girl into a bathroom in his home, taking photos or her and sexually assaulting her in December 2023. Traverse pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintained his innocence during his trial, which started in March. The Crown's office said in an email that based on new information presented at the trial, it was determined it was no longer appropriate to proceed with the case.
