‘Land Of The Lost' Series Reboot In Works At Netflix From Legendary Television
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is looking to remake another classic TV series. The streamer has closed a deal with Legendary Television for Land of the Lost, a reboot of Sid and Marty Krofft's 1974 sci-fi adventure show, Deadline has learned. Sid and Marty Krofft as well as Marty's daughter Deanna Krofft Pope, who is COO at their company, will produce the project, which is in very early stages, sources said. Search is underway for a writer. Reps for Netflix and Legendary TV declined comment. More from Deadline Spencer Milligan Dies: 'Land Of The Lost' Star Was 86 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming Netflix Strikes "New Kind Of Partnership" To Carry TF1 Stations In France Land of the Lost centers on a father, Rick, and his two children who accidentally go through a portal and find themselves trapped in a world inhabited by dinosaurs, including a Tyrannosaurus rex they nickname Grumpy; primate-like people named Pakuni, one of whom, Cha-Ka, they befriend; and reptilian humanoids called Sleestak. Land of the Lost originated as a children's series which aired on NBC Saturday mornings for three seasons from 1974 to 1976, with CBS giving it a summer run in 1985 and 1987. In it, Rick was played by Spencer Milligan, with Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman as his kids, Will and Holly, respectively. Stop-motion animation was used for some of the creatures. Despite its relatively short run, Land of the Lost achieved cult status, keeping the title relevant. That led to a 1991 series remake, which aired for two seasons on ABC, and a 2009 feature film starring Will Ferrell. Sid and Marty Krofft produced both. While it does not have the extensive library traditional TV studios do, Netflix has taken on a few classic series titles. The streamer is currently filming a new Little House On the Prairie and previously rebooted Lost In Space and One Day At a Time. Legendary Television's current slate includes Dune: Prophecy at HBO, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters at Apple TV+ and the animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft at Netflix as well as Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim live-action series and an adaptation of Girls and Their Horses with Nicole Kidman — all in development at Amazon. ‘Fubar' Season 2 Debut Barely Makes Netflix Weekly TV List Amid Steep Audience Decline As ‘Ginny & Georgia' Remains On Top
Arnold Schwarzenegger's FUBAR returned for its second season last week, but it appears audiences had other streaming priorities. Season 2 generated about 2.2M views in its opening weekend after debuting on June 12, placing it at No. 10 on the weekly Netflix Top 10 English TV charts. That's quite a fall from grace compared to the first season, which racked up about 11M views during its own premiere weekend back in May 2023. It was comfortably atop the English TV list for the week. Once again, Seasons 1 and 2 also benefitted from the popularity of the new season. Season 2 came in fifth place with 4.2M views, while Season 1 took sixth with 3.3M. In second place was The Survivors, an Australian whodunit series that tallied 9M views in its second week on the streamer. Sirens also continued to perform fairly well, coming in third place with 4.3M views. That was closely followed by crime thriller Dept. Q in fourth place, also with 4.3M views. As for the film side of things, Tyler Perry's Straw picked up an impressive 48.9M views, making it both the biggest week this year for a movie and the biggest week for a 2025 launch. That's a positive sign that we may see it eventually land among Netflix's most popular English films of all time. Audiences also revisited the OceanGate submersible disaster in the new Netflix documentary Titan, which premiered recently at Tribeca Film Festival. The film took in 17.4M views, putting it at No. 2 on the weekly English films list. Land of the Lost Reboot in the Works at Netflix
It appears that Marshall, Will and Holly will once again be embarking on a routine expedition that instead leads them to the la-annnnd of the lo-o-o-ossst! Netflix in partnership with Legendary TV is in the 'very early stages' of developing a reboot of the cheese-tastic 1970s cult classic Land of the Lost, Deadline and others are reporting. Neither Netflix nor Legendary are commenting on the trade reports. Land of the Lost, produced by '70s TV staples Sid and Marty Krofft, starred Spencer Milligan as Rick Marshall, who during a routine rafting expedition was transported via waterfall/time portal back to prehistoric times along with his son Will (Wesley Eure) and daughter Holly (Kathy Coleman). There, the family of three contended with dinosaurs, hissing lizard men known as Sleestak, and ape-like primates called Pakuni — including one named Cha-Ka (Phillip Paley), who befriended the Marshalls and eventually learned to speak English. Milligan left the series after two seasons after demanding that he and the cast be compensated for the show's various merchandising endeavors, including lunch boxes, coloring books and board games. He was replaced by Ron Harper, who played Will and Holly's uncle Jack in the third and final season. (Harper and Milligan both passed away in spring 2024.) A 2009 film comedy version of Land of the Lost starred Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel and Jorma Taccone. Best of TVLine 'Missing' Shows, Found! Netflix Dives Into Prehistoric Mayhem With a New LAND OF THE LOST Reboot — GeekTyrant
Looks like Netflix is headed into dinosaur territory again as Land of the Lost is officially getting a reboot. According to Variety, the series is in early development, with no writer currently attached. Original series creators Sid and Marty Krofft are back on board as executive producers, with Deanna Krofft Pope also producing. Legendary Television will handle production duties. The reboot marks yet another move by the streamer to breathe new life into vintage TV properties, and for fans of the weird and wild, Land of the Lost is about as wild and weird as it gets! Originally debuting on NBC in 1974, Land of the Lost followed the Marshall family, Rick and his two kids, Will and Holly, who find themselves stuck in an alternate dimension crawling with dinosaurs, strange alien ruins, and the iconic lizard-like Sleestaks. It only ran for three seasons but managed to cement itself as a cult classic thanks to its inventive effects, psychedelic world-building, and sheer Saturday-morning charm. I remember watching reruns of this as a kid, and I loved the show! The show featured Wesley Eure, Kathy Coleman, and Spencer Milligan as the Marshalls, with Philip Paley playing Cha-Ka, a friendly Pakuni. And yes, it was every bit as bizarre and awesome as that sounds. Land of the Lost has been rebooted before with a short-lived 1991 version that aired on ABC, and most famously, it was turned into a 2009 movie starring Will Ferrell, which leaned hard into the comedy and was met with mixed reactions. Netflix has been on a bit of a nostalgia streak lately. In addition to Land of the Lost , it's currently producing a Little House on the Prairie reboot and recently ordered a pilot for a Different World follow-up. Past revivals like Lost in Space , One Day at a Time , and Good Times have shown the streamer isn't afraid to revisit old favorites and try new angles. There's no word yet on casting or timeline, but if Netflix plays this right, we might just get a Land of the Lost that blends the original's high-concept adventure with the kind of modern sci-fi flair today's audiences are hungry for.

'Land of the Lost' Reboot Coming Back To Life At Netflix
Netflix is turning back the clock with a return to the Land of the Lost . Deadline reports that the streamer is in the very early stages of development on a reboot of the 1970s series, with Legendary Television and Sid and Marty Krofft Productions, which worked on the original, helming the new project. Not much else is known, but a search for a writer is underway. Debuting in 1974, the show follows Rick Marshall (Spencer Milligan) and his kids Will (Wesley Eure) and Holly (Kathy Coleman), who accidentally go through a portal and find themselves in a mysterious land inhabited by dinosaurs and prehistoric species, including a T-Rex nicknamed Grumpy, reptilian humanoids called Sleestak, and primate-like people named Pakuni, one of whom became their friend, Cha-Ka. Some of the creatures were notably brought to life using stop-motion animation, and despite its short three-season run, Land of the Lost achieved cult classic status. The upcoming reboot marks a third revival, following a two-season remake in 1991 and a 2009 film featuring Will Ferrell. Sid and Marty Krofft Productions also produced both projects. It isn't Netflix's first attempt at reimagining classic adventures. The streamer has previously rebooted Lost in Space and One Day at a Time , and is currently filming a new Little House on the Prairie .
