UFC on ESPN 70 video: Morgan Charriere unloads on Nate Landwehr for third-round KO
Morgan Charriere spoiled Nate Landwehr's homecoming with a big knockout. On the main card of UFC on ESPN 70 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., Charriere (21-11-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) stunned the crowd with a finishing barrage of the hometown fighter Landwehr (18-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC). Referee Blake Grice jumped in to stop the fight at 0:27 of Round 3. The first two rounds of the fight were very competitive. Landwehr even returned to his stool after Round 2 fired up to enter the final round. Charriere was much calmer entering the third round, but when it began, it didn't take long for him to unload a barrage of strikes that led to the finish. Charriere clipped Landwehr with a clean punch, and then just spammed heavy looping hooks until his opponent fell to the canvas. Check out video of the finish below (via X): With the win, Charriere, 29, returns to the win column after a unanimous decision loss to Nathaniel Wood in March. The Frenchman has traded wins and losses over his past five fights. Landwehr, 37, has now lost back-to-back fights, failing to rebound from a loss to DooHo Choi in his last outing. Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 70
Morgan Charriere and Nate Landwehr meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 70 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 2-3 UFC main cards, 2025: 64-48-1 Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 preview Charriere (20-11-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has traded wins and losses since entering the UFC, and comes in on the heels of a loss to Nathaniel Wood in March. Charriere hasn't lost back-to-back fights since 2021, which sparked a four-fight streak that led to his UFC debut in 2023. The French fighter will aim to get back in the win column as a comfortable favorite. ... Landwehr (18-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has also bounced in and out of the winner's circle of his last four fights, and is also entering off a loss. In December, he was finished by Doo Ho Choi, which followed a first-round TKO of Jamall Emmers last March. Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 expert pick, prediction In what is arguably the best fight on the entire card, Nate Landwehr will welcome Morgan Charriere to his home state. As someone who has been interviewing and following Landwehr's career since his M-1 days, it's awesome to have seen Nate "The Train" become such a fan favorite for the wars he tends to bring out of his opponents. And though he was on the receiving end in his last fight with the talented Doo Ho Choi, it's important to note that Landwehr was dealing with a myriad of issues, ranging from illness to at least one broken hand. That said, Charriere can be a handful for any fighter to deal with, healthy or not. A quietly experienced regional player who sustained a plethora of deceptively close losses to noted fighters, Charriere's career has sometimes been a frustrating follow. Although you can argue that a decent amount of Charriere's decision losses could have easily gone his way, the Frenchman's propensity to play his opponent's game and not punctuate rounds has undoubtedly been a source of his shortcomings. Don't get me wrong, Charriere is the deserved favorite in this spot given their potential career trajectories and the fact that Landwehr has been blown out by lesser competition before. However, if Charriere comes short of anything but a finish or an outright outclassing in the first frame, then "The Last Pirate" will likely find himself falling into Landwehr's favored style of fight. Even though Charriere is more than capable of winning a war, I'll take a flier on Landwehr to survive some early scares and feed off the crowd en route to securing some key moments down the stretch. The pick is Landwehr to come out on the right side of a greasy split decision on the scorecards. Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the French fighter, listing Charriere -250 and Landwehr +190 via FanDuel. Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 start time, how to watch Charriere and Landwehr are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN and ESPN+.

Nate Landwehr excited to fight 'perfect opponent' Morgan Charriere at UFC on ESPN 70
Nate Landwehr promises violence at UFC on ESPN 70. Landwehr (18-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) meets Morgan Charriere (20-11-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) in a featherweight bout on Saturday's main card (ESPN, ESPN+) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. With both fighters earning several bonuses for their exciting fighting style, Landwehr is looking to put on a show in his home state. "It's a perfect opponent for the UFC," Landwehr told MMA Junkie of Charriere. "He's an ex-champion, I'm an ex-champion with my promotion, too, major promotions battling it out. He's young, hungry. He's about that life. It ain't going to be no running in there. We're going to be battling it out. "It wouldn't matter what his name is, where he's from. I mean, I've been all over the world fighting the Russians, the Ukrainians, the Africans, the Hawaiians, what's a Frenchman? We're going to fight it out, we're going to bleed, we're going to feel it in the morning, and it's all going to be left in the octagon, and I'm going to whoop his ass." Based on his strength of schedule, Landwehr feels he's on the cusp of breaking into the UFC's featherweight rankings. "We right there, I've been right there," Landwehr said. "Two of the guys I already fought are in the top 15, everybody I fight is good. I mean, think about it, (Dan) Ige's been ranked high, (Doo Ho) Choi's been ranked high, even (Darren) Elkins has been ranked high, (David) Onama is now ranked. I don't fight any slouches. So, at any point I can get that call and be right back in the mix."

Students have sweetest reaction to seeing pregnant teacher's baby move
Before Samantha Landwehr gave birth last month, the Illinois teacher shared her pregnancy journey with her elementary school students. Landwehr told Storyful her young students eventually became "so invested" in her pregnancy that she would bring in sonograms to share with them and deliver updates ahead of her baby girl Hazel Ann's arrival. One school day, Landwehr even paused while she was teaching because Hazel's kicks were particularly strong and shared the moment with the students. She captured the students' sweet reactions in a social media video shared on April 7. In the video, the students yell excitedly off-camera as Hazel kicks and moves around. "Hazel, do it again!" one student can be heard saying. "My class is ALWAYS trying to watch her move so when she was super active during math we had to stop and watch," Landwehr wrote in text overlaid on the video, which also depicts her own surprised reactions as she feels Hazel's kicks. "Core memory MADE," she added. Landwehr explained to Storyful, "One day during math [the baby] was so active, so I stopped teaching and had them all gather around to see if they could see her moving." She added that Hazel "was showing off big time." Landwehr and her husband Brett welcomed their daughter on April 17, according to an Instagram post Landwehr shared. "April 17th: the best day ever🧸🎀 We didn't know how much we could love someone we just met until we met you!" Landwehr wrote in the accompanying caption.

Steve VanderVeen: What became of the Warm Friend Tavern?
HOLLAND — On Thursday, May 1, Resthaven's Warm Friend (formerly the Warm Friend Tavern) will be 100 years old. August Landwehr created it; the Vannettes and Resthaven Partners preserved it. The Tavern was built under the auspices of the Holland Hotel Company, which Landwehr had purchased from the Boones. To finance the project, Landwehr spearheaded the sale of $200,000 of bonds to the Holland Furnace Company and $300,000 of stock to the local community. Work began on April 10, 1924, when Austin Harrington's steam shovels began razing and excavating. Then, the contractor who had built Holland High School (1914), the Franklin Campus of Calvin College (1917), and Holland Christian High School (1923-1924) took over. His name was Frank Dyke. A year later, the Warm Friend Tavern opened. According to The Holland Sentinel, its top floor had nine apartments of three living rooms each and a Warm Friend Hall to host banquets and dances. More: VanderVeen: The man responsible for The Warm Friend — August Landwehr The next four floors contained 144 rooms, or 36 rooms per floor. One hundred of those rooms included a bath; all rooms had hot and cold running water and telephone service. The first floor held the Dutch Grill, decorated with unique tables and light fixtures, and a kitchen equipped with the latest appliances. It also hosted the downtown office of the Holland Furnace Company, the Allen Tot and Gift Shop and the B&M Shoe Store. The basement contained hairdressing parlors, public restrooms, storage space, laundry, a refrigerator, boilers, truck elevators, and five sample rooms for salesmen. Because the Warm Friend Tavern catered to salesmen and its Dutch Grill was Holland's most exclusive restaurant, it became the social hub of the city. Thus, in 1926, the Holland Hotel Company turned a profit. Unfortunately, its stock never paid dividends. One reason was that, in 1929, August Landwehr suffered mentally after a boating accident claimed the life of his son Paul. Then, when the Kolla family elevated P.T. Cheff (married to Katherine Kolla Nystrom) to a position of authority at the Holland Furnace Company, it lost its balance. The Warm Friend Tavern also changed. With the repeal of the Prohibition in 1933, the Bier Kelder opened on the lower level and the Tavern Club on the top floor. Then, in the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Warm Friend Tavern hosted Hollywood celebrities, courtesy of Cheff, adding prominence to Tulip Time and Holland Furnace Company sales meetings. Still, the Warm Friend struggled financially. To support it, the Holland Furnace Company acquired 51% of the shares of the Holland Hotel Company. Unfortunately, by the 1960s, the Holland Furnace Company was going bankrupt. The Vannettes, however, saved the Warm Friend Tavern. By 1961, Arthur and Jack and their wives Geraldine and Marjorie had opened Jack's 15-Cent Hamburgers at 102 W. Eighth St. and converted their Jack's Ice Cream Shop on Ottawa Beach Road into Jack's Drive-in. In 1965, city leaders convinced the Vannettes to buy the Warm Friend Tavern. The Vannettes stabilized the hotel's finances by converting hotel rooms into luxury apartments and expanding food services. In the process, they converted Warm Friend Hall into a chapel, let the hotel's liquor license lapse, and signified the changes with a new name: Hotel Warm Friend. Later, in 1979, Jack Vannette weatherproofed the building and closed the restaurants. Then, in 1981, when Resthaven Patrons, under Director Rev. Gerald Postma, considered expansion with a new building, the organization changed course and purchased the Hotel Warm Friend instead. Gerald J. Postma was born in 1921. He grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Calvin College and Seminary, graduating from the latter in 1947. Gerald and his wife Jane then moved to Illinois, where Gerald taught Bible classes at Illiana Christian High School in Lansing. Two years later, they accepted a call from the Sanborn (Iowa) Christian Reformed Church (CRC). In 1953, they accepted a call to East CRC of Muskegon, Michigan, then Kelloggsville CRC in Kentwood, Maranatha CRC in Holland, and Olentangy CRC in Columbus, Ohio. In 1973, Gerald became director of Whetstone Convalescent Center in Columbus, Ohio. In 1979, he became director of Resthaven in Holland. He retired in 1984. By that time, the Warm Friend's occupancy rate was 97%. Information for this story comes from Robert Swierenga's "Holland Michigan" and "Park Township Centennial History, 1915-2015," and Donald Van Reken and Randall P. VandeWater's "Holland Furnace Company." — Steve VanderVeen is a resident of Holland. His books on Holland's historical entrepreneurs are available at Reader's World Bookstore.
