Dramatic photos capture the scale of the blaze that continues to burn six days after it broke out on the North York Moors. Many of these images in our gallery were taken by fire fighters at the scene of the Langdale Moor fire which has been declared a major incident. Smoke from the fire continues to reach far-flung parts of the county and people are still being advised to keep door and windows closed if affected. Langdale Moor fire continues as smoke spreads 80 miles to Skipton
Firefighters are tackling a major moorland wildfire for a sixth day, with smoke from the blaze visible up to 80 miles (128km) engines remain on Langdale Moor in North Yorkshire, while a helicopter continues to drop water on the Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (NYFRS) said it expected to be at the scene for the next few crews in Skipton, 80 miles away, said they had been called to two separate incidents in relation to the smell of smoke, which they believed was being caused by the fire on Langdale Moor. A spokesperson said: "If anybody is wondering about a smog or mist settling over Skipton, we believe this to be smoke from Langdale Moor that has now reached Skipton due to wind direction."Please keep all BBQs to designated areas or preferably on your own property as national resources are currently spread very thin." Huge wildfire erupts near RAF airbase as major incident declared with firefighters battling blaze for two days
A MASSIVE wildfire has erupted near an RAF airbase as a major incident has been declared. Crews have been battling the flames in the North York Moors National Park for two days after the service said the fire had spread this afternoon. 3 3 3 North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it has been fighting the blaze on Langdale Moor, close to the RAF Fylingdales early warning station since yesterday morning. The service said the fire had spread this afternoon to ravaging the local area. Around 20 fire engines are currently at the scene as they try to tackle the raging fire. David Skaith, mayor of York and North Yorkshire, and Jo Coles, deputy mayor for policing, fire and crime, said in a statement: 'We are aware of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's declaration of a major incident for the fire at Langdale Moor and continue to monitor the situation. 'We encourage the public to avoid the area and follow the latest advice from the fire service, which can be found on their website. 'We want to thank the firefighters, emergency service workers and partner agencies for their response to this incident.'

Major incident over fire at Langdale Moor near RAF Fylingdales
A major incident has been declared by the fire service as a moorland blaze which started in the North York Moors national park on Monday continues to appliances crewed by about 100 firefighters have now been sent to the scene on Langdale Moor, near the ballistic missile early warning base at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire Fire Service said."The fire has now spread and is covering around 5 sq km," the fire service said in its latest update at 12:30 BST on Wednesday."More resources are being sent to the scene. This has now been declared a major incident." Fire crews were first called out at 18:30 BST on Monday to reports of smoke, prompting fire chiefs to advise people living nearby to keep windows and doors closed and for others to avoid the area if grey smoke was seen billowing over the moors on Wednesday morning as the blaze continued. On Tuesday, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) said its heritage steam train services would be on hold until further said: "Due to the large wildfire at Harwood Dale, which is outside the NYMR route but within the North York Moors National Park, we have made the decision to pause steam services until further notice."This is to help reduce the risk of lineside fires and reduce pressure on the fire service. "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding."The NYMR added its heritage diesel fleet would still run its scheduled services.A fire service spokesperson previously said crews found the fire had "jumped" a fire break put in place late on Monday.
