Mountain rescue called to remote fly campsite
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out on the morning of Monday, August 4, following concerns raised over a tent pitched in a remote and inaccessible area.
The tent was above Alisongrass Hoghouse, near Stonethwaite in the Langstrath Valley.
Cumbria Police contacted the team leader on Sunday evening after a local resident reported the tent, which had been visible for some time in poor weather conditions.
Due to worsening weather from Storm Floris, police requested a welfare check.
A small team of three mountain rescue volunteers were deployed early on Monday and made their way via Fairy Glen to the site, contending with dense bracken, slippery rocks, and persistent rain.
On reaching the location, the team discovered an abandoned tent containing decaying food, spoiled milk, and a sodden sleeping bag. The items were removed and brought down for proper disposal.
A spokesperson for the Mountain Rescue Team said: "These items were collected and brought down to be properly disposed of.
"Yet another case of fly campers."
The operation involved three team members and lasted two hours and 20 minutes.
