Scotland's best fish and chips crowned as Edinburgh restaurant tops list

Six restaurants across the country have been "standouts". Scotland's best fish and chip eateries have been named. The "standout" restaurants are situated all around the country. While National Fish and Chip Day may have already taken place on June 6, summer is the best time of the year to enjoy a fresh fish supper with delicious chunky chips. With the season only just beginning, experts have shared their picks for the top fish and chip restaurants around Scotland. ‌ On Thursday, June 5, Larder Magazine shared a list of "where to find the best" fish and chips in the country. A total of six restaurants are featured on the roundup. ‌ Coming in at number one on the list is Landy's Fish and Chips in Edinburgh. The restaurant is located on North Bridge in the heart of the Scottish capital. Landy's Fish and Chips is a restaurant and bar that describes itself as "Scotland's favourite chip shop" on its website. The venue was praised by Larder Magazine for its crispy batter and flaky fish, as well as its "generous portions and thoughtful touches like homemade tartare sauce". As reported by the Daily Record, Landy's Fish and Chips was named one of our "10 best fish and chip shops for a summer 2025 takeaway". We praised the eatery for its "modern and chic" interiors and "top-notch" food. Meanwhile, coming in at number two on Larder Magazine's roundup is Dune in St Andrews. The Fife town is home to a number of different chippies, but Dune was singled out for its varied menu. The magazine praised the restaurant's Market Fish and Chips dish in particular, describing it as "the catch of the day beautifully battered and served with seaweed tartare, curry sauce, peas and triple-cooked chips". ‌ Placing third on the roundup is Bertie's Proper Fish & Chips, also situated in Edinburgh. The family-friendly restaurant serves sustainably sourced fish, crispy golden chips, and a variety of Scottish-inspired sides and sauces. Larder Magazine applauded Bertie's Proper Fish & Chips for its battered haddock. The restaurant was also described as a top destination for locals and tourists alike. ‌ Elsewhere, The Jigger Inn in St Andrews comes in at number four on the magazine's list. The Jigger Inn, which is housed in a building dating back to the 1850s, serves up home-cooked food and a wide selection of Scottish beers. The inn earned praise for its one-of-a-kind location by the 17th hole of St Andrews' iconic Old Course. Meanwhile, its fish and chips was described as unique thanks to the batter made with The Jigger Inn's 'Jigger Ale'. Rounding out the list are The Grahamston in Glasgow and the Ochils Arms in Dollar, placing fifth and sixth respectively. Larder Magazine applauded The Grahamston for its modern flair and fish batter, while the Ochils Arms was singled out for its fresh haddock and relaxed atmosphere. ‌ The Larder Magazine website states: "From chic seaside spots to heritage pubs and modern chippies, here are six of Scotland's standout destinations serving up fish and chips worth travelling for."
