Gun toss raises suspicion during traffic stop
Lee County Sheriff's Office narcotics agents approaching a vehicle observed a handgun being thrown from the front passenger window during a June 3 traffic stop in the area of Washington Avenue and Garden Street in Sanford.
Larry Durand Dorsett, 49, who is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was the occupant who threw the handgun, a release states. Dorsett was also found to be allegedly in possession of approximately 68 grams of marijuana.
Dorsett was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of Schedule VI controlled substance, marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
He was held on a $40,000 secured bond.
Agents also allegedly located a stolen handgun in the possession of the driver, Brian Colin Dunlap, 50.
Dunlap was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, expired registration and driving left of center. He was held on a $20,000 secured bond.
