US Journalist Killed, Body Found In Container, Suspect Dies In Car Crash
A Las Vegas freelance journalist was allegedly killed and his body was packed in a container by his flatmate, police said. Days after Matthew Kelemen's body was discovered at a downtown establishment after police checked into a foul odour, his suspected murderer, Joseph Del Rivo, was also killed in a car crash in Utah. The Las Vegas Metro police found Kelemen's remains on Tuesday after receiving a report of a stench at a store on North 3rd Street in Downtown Las Vegas, roughly a week after the murder. Police said Del Rivo, 63, was killed in a high-speed pursuit which had nothing to do with the investigation. On Monday, Del Rivo himself dropped off the container, saying he or someone would pick it up in about a week. The following day, he allegedly hired a logistics firm to retrieve the container. Employees noticed a bad smell when the package was taken out and informed the authorities. Advertisement According to the Las Vegas coroner's office, the reason and cause for Kelemen's death are still under investigation. Detectives reportedly believe Kelemen most likely died from blunt force injuries. According to multiple accounts, Kelemen was a freelance journalist who contributed to Las Vegas Magazine. Mikki Zaferatos, Kelemen's sister, described the dramatic events unfolding "like horror-movie stuff." Advertisement Ms Zaferatos told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that her brother was preparing to vacate the room he rented in a house where the suspect, Del Rivo, also resided. According to her, Kelemen had only been there for roughly six months, but "he kept telling, my brother, what a strange guy this was." Advertisement Kelemen reportedly claimed that living there made him extremely uncomfortable. "The guy was a disgusting slob,' were his words," she added. Ms Zaferatos said she received a call from the Clark County coroner's office from her home in Apopka, Florida, at approximately 3 pm Eastern time on Wednesday. Advertisement Two days after discovering her brother's horrific murder, she told the publication, "I could not process what was going through my brain." According to Kelemen's Muck Rack page, his work has been published in magazines like The Daily Beast, Las Vegas Sun, and Las Vegas Weekly. He reviewed Janet Jackson's residency in his most recent piece, published after his death. He worked as a staff writer for the now-defunct publications City Life and 944 for several years. Advertisement Kelemen, who was unmarried, is survived by his older brothers, Steven and Vincent, and his younger sister, Mikki. The entire collection of Kelemen's writing from Las Vegas, which dates back to 2003, is preserved by the family.

Imprisoned Reality Star Was Part of Diddy's Alleged Freak-Offs
One of the sex workers who participated in Sean 'Diddy' Combs' alleged freak-offs was a former reality TV star who's currently serving a prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter. Ash Armand, whose real name is Akshaya Kubiak, was a former cast member on the Showtime series Gigolos which followed the lives of five male escorts in Las Vegas. It ran between 2011 and 2016. During the first week of testimony at Combs' trial, the jury were shown photos of male escorts allegedly hired to perform in the disgraced music mogul's freak-offs—events prosecutors have described as 'elaborate and produced sex performances' participants were coerced into joining by Combs. The producer's attorneys have maintained that the freak-offs were consensual. Armand was reportedly one of the escorts shown to the jury last week, People magazine confirmed Tuesday. The former reality star was arrested in 2020 for beating Herleen Dulai to death. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and mayhem in 2021 and is currently serving an 8-to-20 year prison sentence in Nevada. He claimed that he took psychedelic mushrooms and 'temporarily lost my mind' when the incident occurred. 'I have never hit a woman in my life, and I certainly never wanted to hurt Herleen,' he said during his sentencing hearing, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In a January 2024 interview with Rolling Stone from prison, almost a year and a half prior to the commencement of Combs' trial, Armand claimed that he met Combs and his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at a party. Ventura has alleged that she was often tasked with hiring escorts to join Combs' freak-offs and would primarily do so through web services. 'I've always been super respectful towards my clients,' Armand told the outlet, who wrote that he was 'uncomfortable discussing the topic further' and 'denied being hired for freak-offs.' 'It just all becomes tricky once the privacy is violated. Nobody will feel comfortable using the nature of the business,' he continued. Combs is currently on trial for charges pertaining to sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and has denied any wrongdoing. In an April statement, his legal team said Combs' accusers were 'former long-term girlfriends, who were involved in consensual relationships. This was their private sex life, defined by consent, not coercion.' Ventura testified for four days last week during which she accused Combs of abuse, blackmail, and rape.

The gunman was then caught on camera stalking the front doors as responding officers staged themselves outside. K.M. Cannon/Las Vegas Review-Journal via AP Cops are still trying to determine a motive for the bloodshed. It wasn't clear if those shot alongside Quinonez, the murdered manager, were employees or gymgoers. Their conditions were not immediately known. Ortega worked out at the gym but there didn't appear to be an immediate connection between him and the slain worker, cops said. Vegas suffered the worst mass shooting in history in 2017 when Stephen Paddock shot more than 600 people — killing 61 — from a hotel overlooking the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

What are expectations for Sam Darnold, Tyler Shough and 3 other QBs on new teams?
(This article was written with the assistance of Castmagic, an AI tool, and reviewed by our editorial team to ensure accuracy. Please reach out to us if you notice any mistakes.) "Competency" is Step 1 for a group of NFL teams who will have a new quarterback under center in the 2025 season. The thinking for these clubs: get average to above average play and see if any QB can flash something special. Advertisement For the rookies and young starters, it's about showing they're not over their heads and giving their teams a chance to evaluate them long-term. For the veterans, expectations are more about providing stability and not losing games, with hope for occasional upside. In this episode of "Football 301," Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice, Charles McDonald and Matt Harmon lay out the expectations for quarterbacks who are in new cities with expected starting role responsibilities. Here are the key takeaways from the discussion: Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints The hosts agree that "competency" should be the expectation for Shough this year. With a new coaching staff and a 26-year-old rookie starting, the Saints are hoping Shough can look like a top-20 quarterback and give them a fighting chance in games, even if it's just a 7-10 season. Advertisement Because of his age and experience, Shough should be ready right away, and if he falters, the Saints might already be looking to next year's draft class. Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans For Ward, it's about showing the aggressive playmaking he was known for in college. The Titans have beefed up their offensive line and added some interesting receivers. The consensus is that anything 'better than last year' is a win. The expectation is that Ward keeps firing downfield, makes mistakes, and hopefully learns quickly. The offense should be more competent overall, aided by improvements up front. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks Darnold lands in a Shanahan/Kubiak system in Seattle, a scheme that should mitigate some of his worst tendencies with play action and a strong run game. But there's reason to be cautious since Darnold 'is as good as the players around him.' Advertisement The expectation is that the Seahawks lean into a run-heavy, play-action-heavy script and try not to let Darnold get stuck in a dropback-heavy passing game. If things go well, Darnold can be a fine starter, but the offense's talent and the fit of its skill players present question marks. Geno Smith is charged with managing the game for the Raiders behind a run heavy offense. (Bizuayehu Tesfaye/Las Vegas Review-Journal/Tribune News Service via Getty Images) (Las Vegas Review-Journal via Getty Images) Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders With Chip Kelly coming in as offensive coordinator, the Raiders are expected to lean heavily on the run and utilize a creative, multifaceted ground attack. Smith raises the floor for the offense as he's a steady hand who can make enough throws, especially if the run game is working. Advertisement The Raiders' offense is expected to be better than last season, with the main question being whether they have enough explosive playmakers outside. Justin Fields, New York Jets The expectation is a 'run-heavy, bruising' offense built around Fields' legs and the Jets' strong running back group. Passing game questions remain — particularly the fit with Garrett Wilson — but there's reason to believe this offense can at least pound the rock and be a team no one wants to play, even if it won't be explosive through the air.
