Peru Fines Lima Clinic $190,000 For Leak Of Shakira's Medical Records
A Peruvian regulator hit private health-care provider Auna SA with a stiff fine for the unauthorised disclosure of medical records belonging to popular singer Shakira. Susalud, which oversees Peru's health-care industry, said Wednesday it imposed a fine of 668,750 soles ($188,355) on the Auna-controlled Delgado Clinic. Located in Lima, the private hospital is popular with the country's elites and its main location is in the wealthy neighborhood of Miraflores, where it boasts a helicopter landing pad. An email to the company wasn't immediately returned. Auna may be able to appeal the fine. The allegations date to February, when Shakira was due to perform two concerts in the Peruvian capital as part of her latest tour, Las mujeres ya no lloran (Women no longer cry). The singer fell ill upon her arrival in Lima and went to the Delgado Clinic, with details of her apparent medical treatment being leaked on social media almost in real time. Shakira canceled the first concert citing health issues, but she hasn't publicly addressed the medical leak. Susalud said the disclosure of the singer's data was a "serious violation" and that all patients are entitled to "dignity and intimacy," as well as a guarantee that their personal information will be treated confidentially.

Shakira Cancels Colombia Concert Over Venue Safety Concerns
Shakira has canceled a concert in Colombia, among dozens of dates on her world tour, due to a damaged stage roof that posed safety concerns, event organizers said on Friday. The Colombian singer-songwriter is on her first world tour in seven years, with nearly 50 performances scheduled in Latin America through June, followed by more concerts in the United States and Canada. "During the process of setting up the show scheduled for February 24, the stage roof installed by a local production company suffered damage that put the artist's safety at risk," event organizer Paramo Presenta wrote on social media on Friday. The company added that it hoped to reschedule the concert, which was due to take place at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellin. The 48-year-old four-time Grammy winner had already been forced to scrap a tour date in Peru after she received treatment in hospital last week for an abdominal condition. Titled "Las mujeres ya no lloran" (Women Don't Cry Anymore), the tour kicked off in Rio de Janeiro this month just a few days after she received a Grammy for best Latin pop album. She returned to her hometown of Barranquilla, where she was welcomed on Thursday by tens of thousands of fans at the Metropolitano stadium. With more than 90 million records sold worldwide, Shakira is one of the most popular Latin artists of all time. She has back-to-back concerts scheduled in Bogota on Wednesday and Thursday, according to her website.

A spokeswoman for Peru's national health service watchdog told AFP on Tuesday that investigations were well underway and the clinic could face a fine of up to $430,000. "Yesterday (Monday) we were at the clinic, we met with the officials, they have given their explanation, which is confidential," spokeswoman Ruby Cubas told AFP. The investigation is expected to last 25 days. The Delgado clinic, where Shakira was treated, said it was also investigating what it called a "serious ethical breach of our code of conduct and regulations governing personal data processing." "We have already identified and started the sanctioning process against those proven responsible," it said in a statement. Shakira is on her first world tour in seven years. Colombian pop star Shakira said her concert in Peru Monday will go ahead a day after she called off another performance because of a sudden hospitalisation. The singer-songwriter, 48, had gone to the emergency room on Saturday night and was briefly admitted to hospital, prompting her to call off a show Sunday. Shakira wrote on Instagram Monday that the gates to the National Stadium in Lima will open at 4pm (2100 GMT) for a concert due to kick off at 8.15pm. The post made no reference to her health.
